I think naming the male character in your doll line "DUDE" should be considered a power move
Gurl what¿!

Good for me
It's all they are in most doll lines tbh lol
Makes me think of whoever decided to name “tough dude and pink chick” for the lol OMGs two pack. 😂
Fun fact: boxy girls were not just a Walmart-exclusive - they were also available at Cracker Barrel, everyone’s favorite place to buy dolls from💀
I've definitely seen them in some shops in the UK
I saw them at Target and TJMaxx.
I keep seeing them at 5 Below now, or at least a smaller version
Ah yes, can’t wait to get a rocking chair and ᴀ ʙᴏxʏ ᴅᴏʟʟ
I’m always surprised how often I see these at the thrift store. Someone actually BOUGHT those? Man, I restore and makeover damaged, ugly thrift store dolls, and even I won’t pay 99¢ for one of those things!
As an asian, i can't help but feel a little bit down with the lack of representation in the industry. Even when we do get an asian character it's almost always japanese. I just feel that there's such an untapped potential for representation in the fashion doll world for south east asian and other asian culture.
Do it yourself, lazy.
@@grimreaper9350 Do you know how expensive it is to make dolls dawg.
@@grimreaper9350 thank you for exposing your lack of understanding, awareness, and empathy regarding this. I really wish you good luck in life, hunty! You may need it.
@@grimreaper9350 bro wtf....
I feel the absolute same way about the middle east, 0 rep :(
"Highschool Dude" has got to be one of the funniest possible things mattel could have named that doll
As someone who wears lolita, fairy kei and spank style,, I have to say that NONE of the harajuku inspired dolls feel harajuku at all to me lmao
Other than the usual suspects, like the dolfie dreams, blythe and pullip dolls ofc
Its like...Diet Harajuku for 5 year old Westerners. All kawaii, and no Harajuku.
Honestly I think I’d switch strawberry shortcake and my scene. I feel like strawberry shortcake is still on like childrens backpacks and has an active show and is vaguely in public consciousness, whereas my scene, no longer being made at all, is something the average person on the street probably doesn’t remember or recognize at all unless they bought them or played with them.
Maybe that’s just my area and lots of people remember them in other places idk.
I think its more "well known to the doll community" than "well known to the general public"
I had a myscene movie and like one doll (or was that my sister's?) XD
nono it's true! people do not know about myscene at all unless they actually bought into it. with strawberry shortcake, everyone at least in the west has heard the name and recognises what it is without being tied to a doll line. she, like hello kitty, is more of a symbol/recognisable mascot than a doll or specific product.
I like how Mattel was so scared of Dawn that they had like five lines of mini dolls still in production when dawn had already gone bankrupt
Seeing all these failed 2000s-era doll lines reawakened some deep childhood memories. I still get the Moxie Girls ad jingle stuck in my head sometimes.
I had Moxie girls and they were so pretty. Lol, I remember I had one that I loved because she had long black hair like me.
Have you thought about making a video comparing all the Monster High knock offs? It's amazing how many dolls with abnormal skin tones just suddenly appeared in 2013 😄
Adding on, I see you have a video on this topic already, but it would be neat to try to catalog every single doll line that took inspiration from MH.
It’s honestly very odd how many knockoffs there are xD
@@KingOfGaymes lol MH was such a revolutionary doll line that everyone wanted to cash in on it.
i just love the fact that when asked about skin colour, the girls asked for the Monster High dolls said they wanted “weird” colours like green and blue! i think thats great that they didnt want the regular skin colours.
They already made one: ua-cam.com/video/RxthwP2G3QM/v-deo.html
Tbh though, I would love to see a part 2 given just how many of these kinds of MH imitators are out there, even excluding dollar store knockoffs.
Love little miss no name, Mattel really thought they hit the "poor little meow meow" brief and shipped out those scary wee dolls
Nah because they really tried to convince people she had brown eyes as if she didn’t have eyes that looked the depths of hell itself
I didn’t know Mattel made them, still getting the courage to look at one without flinching lmao
Hasbro*
What were they thinking?! 😭
she's horrifying, i love her

@@starpasta hi
You are BAE for doing this and must be protected at ALL COSTS.
“..Such as dancing and .. praising God”.
That made me laugh way more than it should have. 😂💖😂
I wish they'd bring Pinkie Cooper back! The designs were absolutely gorgeous and it was really nice having an anthro doll on the market. Also the paw molds are just so cute with the toe beans 😭
She looks like a KC spainal
I wish they did too, they're adorable! ;_; It's kinda hard to find used, non-fakie dolls for this brand. I like to imagine that they would expand to other characters that are different breeds of dogs (which would be amazing).
@@ribbodile6225 have you seen the cartoon? I would ADORE a doll of their pilot. I think she was a dalmatian? But she had such a cute design as well and I would ADORE if they put her in like a cute little fight attendant outfit or something. Such a shame PK is so underrated, I hear people call it creepy or weird and I don't get how.
i have a pinkie cooper doll! my mom got it for me when i was a kid and she’s got this cute raincoat
True!!
Random fact: I had a theatre instructor who was actually the voice of Angel in the Kuu Kuu Harajuku series when it was airing and she'd act in-character at some points. So thanks for having me revisit that lmao
Every single time I come back to this video, it's to chuckle at the description of "Little Miss No Name". "The tear under her eye is removable but nothing could change the fact that she looks like an absolute demon". I still laugh about that.
The only ones I can think of that were left off would be:
WWE Dolls
Sparkle Girlz
Cabbage Patch Kids (not quite fashion dolls, but given their history deserve a mention)
Disney Dancing Princesses (only because they were mini)
Janay
Kari Michell
Rainbow Brite (only cuz Strawberry Shortcake got a mention)
Maybe She Ra…
Great job overall!!
There's also Ideal's Miss Revlon & Moose Toy's Dream Seekers
And also DesignaFriend by Chad Valley, though I believe those were only released in the UK so might have been too obscure (they were sort of like a lower budget American Girl style line, similar to Our Generation)
WWE dolls were a huge missed one. They’ve got a long history too
W.I.T.C.H too
I would say enchantimals? Weird not to see them here, but honestly all I remember about them is hoe much I hated them as a kid
I'm a male adult Ever After High fan. I fell into EAH years ago after I came across the webisodes on UA-cam during a break at work. I really liked the series but initially was not interested in the dolls at all. That changed because I liked the Raven Queen character the most. So I bought her and was very impressed by how much doll looked like the animated character and also the great details she had. Later I spotted a Dexter Charming at Target and I quickly bought it because there was only one of him at that store. From there my collection began and over the it became bigger and bigger. For someone who had never bought or collected any dolls before I've spent a lot on EAH dolls over the years. I more than likely would still be spending on them had Mattel stuck to the great quality it had for the EAH line in the beginning and not eventually stop production of the entire line. Because of that I think Mattel really made a big mistake with how they handled EAH because I know very well that I wasn't the only adult collector willing to spend on those dolls if they had kept production and quality in place.
Facts! I literally have every single EAH doll release prior to the quality diminishing and the forest creature angle they went to next. I mourned when they killed the line😔
@@JamieDoll I was really disappointed that they killed it because there was still so much potential for that line.
I have a Ever After High Cerise Hood doll too and was really sad when I learned it was discontinued. It had such amazing designs! It's my favourite doll that I have and I wish I could've gotten others... I really liked them more than monster high.. they were just such a cool doll set.
TAHTTTT ISSS SOOSOSSOOOOOO SWEETTT DUUUDEE!!! >W< I AMM SOOOSOO GLADD THATT EAHH ALLSOO BROUGHHT YOUU A LOOT OFF HAPPINNESS BROOO!!
@@OTOOO.MASHI_YUNAAII38n2 the EAH dolls was a really great doll line before Mattel started making the budget versions. The original version had very creative details to their clothes and accessories. They also had good articulation that made them seem kinda like stop motion puppets.
I've never seen one of these. I appreciate that u actually gave credit and asked permission! Also you are quickly becoming my fav doll UA-cam because you don't do an obscene amount of box openings and your voice is so soothing.
And very intelligent!
Same. He seems chill and is funny. Great combo tbh
his voice is nothing special wtf
@@ihmasAnna please get a life. Why even comment?
@@ihmasAnna Enjoying a voice is definitely a personal preference you can’t control, like a fav colour or flavour. Now, personally, I don’t watch videos if I don’t enjoy the voice, so I’m not sure why you’re here, but Happy Holidays :)
It’s amazing how many kids got dolls that focused exclusively on adjustable hair length, I just used scissors 😂
I thought that the Moxie Girls were literally just something I imagined as a kid, I never saw anything about them up until now.
omf me too
🎶hey moxie girls🎶color my world 🎶
I was honestly shocked, that the W.I.T.C.H dolls by Giochi Preziosi weren't included! I feel like they were huge here in Europe! They even had a comic book series and later on a TV series. They were a huge part of my childhood and from my knowledge, the dolls are highly sought after! I have all 5 characters and I'm so happy! But great video, I love to see a longer video from you, I could just listen to you talking about dolls for ever!
Wait there were dolls first??? I noticed the magazine first then a few years later the TV Series and thought the dolls were only made as a tie-in to the show.
@@elecrom_9757 Actually I think they first had the magazine/comic book series, then when that took off, they started making the dolls and then they had a tv series for awhile before seizing all production. I'm so sad they stopped the comic series, I still read them!
I LOVED the w.i.t.c.h comics and my grandparents brought be everything related to it they could find (grandma made good money as a chemist in the cosmetics industry and grandpa worked in something like a toy factory type place).
Yet, I think they made the dolls after the comics and weren't really planning on making those to promote the dolls. Plus there wasn't a lot they could do with them. The girls kept their same outfit after transformation for years and only way later into the game got ONE update on their clothes.
The schoolgirl outfits in the comics weren't really doll-type clothes.
Unlike with Winx they didn't get new fairy glitter looks each season and weren't dressed very glamorous.
Not really in the whole Europe. Here in Romania it wasn't a big deal at all
i remember witch!!! i had 2/3 of the books and found out about the series a few years later. didn't know there were dolls but im not suprised
my best friend in elementary school had FOUR Girls Of Many Lands dolls and i was SO jealous. they were absolutely GORGEOUS.
GOML is the goat tbh
My aunt wrote the Leyla book so I got the book and doll as a gift from her and I love her sm
i literally fell off the bed in shock that someone else remembers Zodiac Girlz. I had the Aries doll, and i used to spend hours on the website as a kid, but no one I've ever mentioned them to knows what the hell I'm talking about.
I never had one of the dolls but I used to STAY on that website back in the day. I think I got to it through the Mattel website haha
The website was everything to me 😆
Something I wanna add about the little apple dolls, is that each one comes with a little foam apple and a bag of safety pins that you're supposed to poke them into. But they're light and small and getblost so I've literally got a drawer full of them.
I love the amount of research that went into this. Your knowledge of doll history and trends makes you like...the ultimate weapon for doll companies. If you could create your own doll, which aspects from the giant list you went through would you include?
I've always loved how Tonner dolls have these elaborate stories to them, when most adult collector dolls don't usually bother with stuff like that. I think it adds a whole other layer of thought behind the designs though, so I would definitely be taking a page out of their book in that sense.
@@DarlingDollz I would love that! I love artists that choose to make backstories for their pieces. One of my favorite fantasy artists puts a short written piece on the back of each of her prints. I think it shows visually in art she creates but the little story adds a satisfactory bow on the experience. I do like mystery and interpretations in some things but something just a satisfying story is nice! Adults like story time too 🥲
@@DarlingDollz girls can be adult doll collectors too! i'm becoming one!! and also i love love love fashion Dolls!!!!
there is not much work in this if he has always been naturally interested in dolls...also there is a LOT he missed i could name dozens and im just interested in dolls since the LOL hype. His work is weak.
@@ihmasAnna God, you're annoying
i was obsessed with those yummi-land dolls as a child and i swear noone ever mentions them 😭
I had a few, and I still vividly remember how good they smelled 😔
They need to come back. If they don't I will riot lol jk! But no really I had one of those dolls but I loved it! Also the fact that they came in bottles? That was so cool!
I have a memory of losing one I got for my birthday on the teacups ride at disneyworld and I’ll never forget it 😭 I loved that doll
I’ll also never forget my dads way to comfort me was saying “Maybe another little girl found her and has her now :)” like gee thanks 💀
@@DarlingDollz I still have a banana scented one and she still smells good 😩🍌
I’m 24 years old and STILL think about my vanilla-scented (maybe cream soda?) doll 😊 and would have NEVER remembered the name without this video!!!! So grateful
Melanie's Mall was probably the coolest playset doll to come out of the 90's. It really had that 80's/90's mall aesthetic. There was a working escalator and fountain, hair salon, arcade, food court. So much fun.
Oh my god, Yummi-Land!! I'd totally forgotten about them. I'd still be interested in those if they were made today.
Omg I never knew a fashion doll for it existed but miss scouby's hair is actually a craft thing called scoubidoo. It was massive in France and the UK especially in the mid 2000s when I was a kid, they're plastic threads you can make keychains and little animal sculptures etc with
Massive in the Netherlands as well! What a throwback
Oooh, I wasn't aware but that makes so much sense! Especially her name now 😂 Thanks for the info!
I saw those in the US too, but i cant imagine anyone here would know what it was called besides "plastic colored threads woven into things"
We had that scoobidoo trend in Germany too! It's based on a Japanese type of craft called kumihimo. Pretty funny how everyone did it for like a year or two and everyone wore scoobidoo keychains and bracelets and then it just died down.
@@saku577 in Australia too and it was apparently because they were toxic
I LOVE hearing about obscure and less popular dolls and would really enjoy seeing more videos discussing less talked about dolls.
same and idk if anyone knows the less popular fashion dolls like Baby Alive even tho you can dress up your baby and the hair is made out of plastic and other materials lol
I had no idea that Blythe and her dolls were originally completely unrelated to lps! I always thought that she was character made by hasbro to… i dunno sell more dolls? Anyways yeah that’s interesting and I remember seeing those on the shelves when I was younger!
So happy the list included Susi! She was pretty huge in Brazil until like mid/late 2000, but now they only sell through the manufacturer's website and are more focused on adult collectors. As someone who was a kid during the mid/late 2000 I still saw her a lot on stores but Barbie was definitely more coveted, specially because we’re talking peak toy media era and Estrela (the local manufacturer) could not compete with the amount of games, shows and movies Mattel was releasing to promote their dolls.
One thing worth noting is that she was at some point more popular than Barbie in Brazil, during the 80’s because her face mold and overall quality were considered better. Sorry for the long text, just some background on this specific doll if anyone is interested.
I personally collect primarily Japanese dolls, so I would have loved to see Azone and Bandai dolls included. Azone Pure Neemo dolls are some of my absolute favorites, I really recommend checking them out if you've not heard of them. Love the video! ♥
Pure Neemos are adorable! Their Love Live dolls are some of my faves 💖
@@DarlingDollz Ahhh goodness, can't believe you actually replied! I love your videos lol. So fun to watch another adult collector.
I love Bandai dolls, especially sailor moon 🌙
First of all, I love the video. Im surprised I knew most doll lines post-2000s!
If I'm not mistaken, I think the W.I.T.C.H dolls were not on the list, even though they've had their share of success, at least enough to make it into the iceberg imo! PS: the WITCH comics are very cool and the lore is very nice, i totally recommend it. I'm also very happy Susi made it to the list, since she was very popular in Brazil before Barbie's late arrival in the 80s.
Aside from that, some other doll lines that weren't mentioned but also I'm not sure if they count: Enchantimals, She-ra dolls (both the old and new ones), Spirit riding free dolls, another doll line that's also called 'Off the hook' that resemble Capsule chix, LOL Tweens (I'm not sure if it counts separate to LOL OMG), Harry Potter fashion dolls that popped out of nowhere recently (most of them based off the 4th film), and lastly there were the Shopkins Lil Secrets that went with the old polly pocket compact model, but Im not sure you'd consider them fashion dolls since the clothes were not removable.
Shopkins little secrets are so cute! Way better than new polly pocket imo

Wonderful video! I wish more companies would do animal doll lines like Pinky Cooper & Catwalk Kitties. They're always absolutely adorable.
Oh my god they NEED to bring back Maudlynne Macabre. My goth heart needs it!! And her Victorian ghost (girl)friend PLEASE! I will kill for it
I wish the star darlings dolls got more of a chance to thrive- they're literally so pretty
and i love the books and shorts their designs were realoy nicew
@jackle YOO THATS FIRE AND THE PAPER WAS LIKE COLOURED W THE RESPECTIVE MAIN CHARACTER COLOUR W their main colour and had sparkles
I watched the whole video while working on a project. You brought back so many memories of y2k dolls I loved and forgot about!
I'm so happy that you mentioned Trollz. Me and my sister had them growing up, and I never see anyone else mention them.
I'm only 7 minutes in so far, but I'm extremely happy you played a bit of the Strawberry Shortcake theme song. That show was extremely important to my childhood
I'm loving the video so far though! I also really appreciate you giving credit to the person who made the original iceberg and linking their socials. A lot of people either don't give credit at all, or just mention the creator in passing and don't link to them
Yeah I used to love strawberry shortcake. Most familiar with 2003 shortcake and a bit of 2006
I grew up during the 2009 phase, but I remember really enjoying the movies from around 1980- early 2000’s- but dude the 2009 show was literally my childhood
21:25 I always figured the Equestria Girls dolls were still pony colored because Mattel assumed kids wouldn't be able to identify the characters if they looked like normal humans.
from what i know - they planned to have them human skin tones but the fandom at the time had a lot of racism. i could be wrong though
its worse, they were afraid of the backlash from racist fans if they canonized some of the characters as not white but they also knew they couldnt make all 6 girls white, they went full coward and made them have the same skin tones as the ponies then
ive seen the original concept art for equestria girls, lot of the ponies had art styles in darker skin tones and i'm 99% sure that it was a marketing decision to not piss off the half of their fanbase that saw these ponies as default white.
@@natashavalkovski9363 I don't think they ever wanted to appeal to 4chan bronies with Equestria girls so I doubt that was the case, they probably just wanted to avoid race altogether since it's unfortunately a touchy subject in our society, easier and safer to just ignore it I guess
One doll line I thought of that was sort of not mentioned was the Living Dead Doll spin off Fashion Victims which were meant to be more fashion doll versions of early LDDs although definitely adult. Series 1 is kind of terrible, series 2 fixes those problems is pretty darn cute and have inset eyes; I want Sybil
there's a revamped version of the disneybounding dolls at target right now called ily 4ever, theyre american girl scaled but with much more cartoony faces and they're quite cute!
Saw this iceberg months ago and I'm glad it's getting covered! I can't imagine all the research this took; your work is super appreciated 💕
Thank you!!
THANK YOU!! I could never find the name of my Betty Spaghetty, I never realized it was a Happy Meal toy. Also, I’ve gone down the doll rabbit hole in the last year cuz I recognize too many of these names.
No joke I used to pull her hair out to use as string if I couldn't find any. Then I used her hair to tie up my barbies, sindys and MLPS(G2 yes I'm that old) HAIR
I'm so happy you didn't shit on Steffi Love when talking about her. The Barbie fandom can be pretty mean about her in a snobbish way that always rubs me off. I'm from a lower class household, and owned a mix of better quality 'rip-offs' like Steffi love and the 'actual' fashion dolls like Barbie and Bratz. Most of my friends were of similar households, and my best friend who grew up across the street, if you don't count the 'rip-offs' and only the higher end fashion dolls, she'd only have owned 1 Bratz doll throughout her entire childhood. I'd watch with jealousy how my wealthier cousins had things like doll houses and we'd be improvising with carton boxes. I actually got kicked out of the Preminger Discord for pointing out a joke about Steffi was pretty classist, and trying to reframe the joke to be about black Barbies instead to showcase how wrong that joke actually can come across. Apparantly, reminding people Barbie was originally also a way to promote the American Dream to young girls, and how little girls who weren't of rich white families have long been excluded from the fashion doll community is too upsetting for people. Barbie is actually one of my driving motivations behind my aspirations of becoming a toy designer (including fashion dolls) that serve quality but are also more affordable, like sets such as doll houses of which you can buy the individual rooms and click them together, so families of lower income can collect rooms to eventually give their kid a full dollhouse, which can also give everyone a chance to build the house like they want to.
(an idea I actually have from a cheap toy line sold at Action back in its old days when it was still selling decent toys. It were like 10 or 20 rooms that each came with a theme which included a grocery store -I think, I accidentally swallowed one of the plastic tiny tomatoes back when I was 8- and its own plastic little doll that was about Polly Pocket's size and you could click the rooms together. Why fashion doll lines aren't taking notes, bothers me. It makes fashion dolls way more of a luxury products then they should be. There are plenty of lower income families who could save up for a doll house, sets like a beach club and whatnot if they can be sold into pieces and it would still bring in money. But I guess this is the difference between corporate greed and actually caring about toys and everyone getting one. I'm more of a santa claus-kind of toymaker then one who cares for millions of euros. I want to see profit, sure, but I'd rather have a 1000 euro profit and every kid being able to get one of my toys regardless of the class they grow up in then a million euro profit and only being able to sell it to the kids of snobbish parents who give their kids an IPad at the age of 3.)
I really glad to hear about susi on the video! this doll really made my childhood, even my first puppy was named susi! for more info about this doll line she was discontinue in 2015, they even made a bride theme doll for the end of susi, but came back last year rocking her early head and body mold (nicknamed by brazilians collectors "cone neck")
Dose anyone else remember Pinypon dolls by Famosa? They are kinda similar to Capsule chix because they are a mini doll were you can take apart their bodies and hair in order to mix and mach their fashion. They also had a more obscure spin-off called Piny Institute of New York with an animated series and larger, more traditional fashion dolls which cute chibi proportions and anime faces. I have some PinyPon dolls and playsets from my childhood and I really want a P.I.N.Y. doll because of their cuteness but they were never released in America.
yeah!! pinypon are pretty popular especially in spain and a few latinamerican countries. the eldest daughter of a family friend gave her her amazing vintage set of a few dolls and a great amusement park, with pigeons, a water fountain, a retro car and a ferris wheel, from either the late 80s or early 90s. sometime after that the company went through a big change and the new dolls look more like polly pockets than their original selves. im assuming they werent mentioned since, at least those original ones, werent actually fashion dolls -though i dont know about that nowadays.
it was also very popular here in Belgium and i think in europe in general, my sister had a lot of pinypons and playsets
Woah I have some of those in my basement somewhere!! You just unlocked another memory for me. My cousins and I were super into those when we were in elementary school. I think they should be on the iceberg for sure, not sure what level though.
I recall seeing a ad on TV in the uk a few times
YES!
Omg, I was obssesed with these when I was younger!
I had so many! Just wish I knew where they are now.
Here in Mexico you can still see them around on certain stores!
I love that you use that MyScene song as your outro!!! That song has been stuck in my head for YEARS and its so amazing to hear it in every video! Also great iceburg, love how deep it goes, I had never heard of so many of these!
That's where that song comes from! It's been bothering me for so long. Like, it sounded familiar, but I couldn't put my finger on it. MyScene was a bit before my time, but when I was like three, my friends sister was always on the website, and she would sometimes let us play with her. I have this really weird thing about songs. Once I hear a song, for some reason, it's immediately downloaded into my brain and I never forget it. She must have played it at some point, which is why it felt so familiar.
Mine too. It was my first time hearing that song in many years. I actually used to treat my My Scene dolls especially well because they came with doll stands and I thought that meant they were display only.
you’re my favorite doll channel at this point! this video was so cool and i saw so many dolls i either forgot about or have never seen!! so cool thanks so much for another great vid!! keep these up!
I don't know what it is about your videos that keeps drawing me back to them. I didn't even know there was an adult doll community until I found you but I still keep watching your videos even though I legit know nothing about what you talk about. I think it's your voice.
My guess is Susie Sad Eye's was a cash grab in trying to recreate the famously popular big eyes paintings of the 1960's by Margaret Keane, but this is just a theory.
Hopscotch Hill! Also by Pleasant Company, released around 2000. I remember wanting one as a kid so bad, but they’re absolutely terrifying. I would put them about the same level as Magic Attic Club,
I wasn't familiar with these, so I googled the name and I have to say. I was not ready.
They are really...something.
I'm just not quite sure what.
lol i have 3 of these dolls and i never hear anyone talk about them
The way I just spit out my milk just now! I remember Hopscotch Hill on the AG website back when it was at its peak!!
I am amazed that everGirl was a flop because that website was SO much fun. I specifically remember a game that was choice-based to get a character to become class president. It taught morals (lying only makes things worse, stick to your friends, etc) along with some actual campaign/promo strategy??? They also sold clothes for girls -- not dolls, actual kid's clothes -- based around which personality category you fit, many of which matched doll outfits. It was a WHOLE thing and I can't believe it isn't more documented. Looking it up, I can't find anything from the old website! It was the same concept as Hogwarts houses, so I'm amazed we don't have millennials and late Gen-Z identifying themselves by their everScopes.
The only other thing I remember is that the lightning bolt was the sporty girl (she had a snowboarding game, I think?) and the star was the sensitive and artsy girl.
I'm not in the doll community at all, but I'm amazed by how many of these I know purely by virtue of being a young girl in the 00s.
I think the UA-camr PeanutButterGamer reviewed the Evergirl computer game in a video once
this was such a lovely walk down memory lane for me. my aunt owned a toy store when I was a kid that specifically did not sell big name brands, so being reminded of my more obscure gifts from her like my Only Hearts Club dolls and my Zodiac Girl was really really fun. ❤️
I always thought that Generation Girl was the American Girl for literally every other country. I just assumed it’s because only a small fraction of little girls that want them are actually American girls themselves lol just thoughts from a Canadian lol
as a canadian, american girl dolls were super popular. i had a truly me doll and mfs on the playground were JEALOUS
Definitely outside of my doll knowledge, Even as a little kid I gravitated away from child/baby dolls.
I thought they were a British version of American doll
54:29 “…with faces that have seen gods true form.” I lost it 😂😂😂
Ahhh I can’t believe I didn’t see this sooner!! I absolutely loved the video, and I was able to add a bunch of new dolls to the “I need to get them” list. Also, you reminded me to check and see if any new listing of zombie girls doll popped up and I was able to snag a sunny burns for much cheaper than I thought, so thank you for that!
I just got done watching the video and I enjoyed every moment of it! Lowkey, I forgot I put some of these doll lines on the iceberg since I myself was unfamiliar some with them. There are some doll lines that definitely deserved attention while others… well, let’s just keep it at that lol
Again, thank you so much for reaching out and making a video on the iceberg! I know it was a lot of effort but it definitely worth the wait! The amount of research done in this video is really impressive! 💕
OMG the nostalgia hit me like a freight train when you said BEGoths.... I wanted one SO bad, and I wasn't even a collector at the time! I'm thinking I'll have to look for inspo picks and make my goth BJD some outfits! (ResinSoul Mei in NS of anyone is curious! She was actually my first doll.)
Be Goths are now pretty expensive on the second hand market. I'm a huge goth culture enthusiast and I collect goth novelty items, which were prolific during the 2000's. I started looking around online for Be Goths and was surprised to see how much they're selling for right now. I was super lucky when I walked into an antique mall last year and found one still in her box for only $30. But if you're into BJD's you're no stranger to paying a lot for a doll.
@@Problempossum11 yeah they're pricy! I bet they'd do well with a reboot. I get a new $100-200 doll every year or so so I might keep an eye out.
Omg I had two begoth dolls that got destroyed in a flood. One was half red and half black haired w a short black outfit and the other was a blue themed schoolgirl. I really miss those dolls
@@aftondarnell9762 If you ever wanna get those ones specifically again you're probably talking about Back to School Storm & Casual Storm. 😊
Thanks for going over this iceberg! I've been fascinated by fashion toys for a whole and learned about a lot of interesting doll designs I would have otherwise been in the dark about. I'm glad someone else remembers Betty Spagetty, and I'm glad Capsule Chix made the iceberg. I wish Purrista Girls had made it too, but I think they may belong on one of the lower tiers for now... If you like cat dolls, check it out! It's a simpler, more chibi version one the cat dolls you mentioned.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have a list of search terms to investigate...
can I just say thank you so much for this video ! I have been waiting for a video on this iceberg for months ! it's so interesting to see dolls I grew up with featured here i entirely forgot about (especially the novastars !) so thank you for unlocking good memories as well ! :)
Oh my god shorties. My whole life I remembered playing with them as a child but since no one ever talked about them I assumed I must have been misremembering a different doll brand but they're real! This is a revelation for me
I'm surprised Shopkins Shoppies didn't make the list. I think they're discontinued now but they seemed pretty popular a few years back, more so with younger kids.
betty spaghetti, diva starz, sugar planet, and trollz were my absolute favs when I was little! aside from the more obvious contenders ofc. plus omg the mini polly-sized bratz with fabric clothes you could use for both dolls those were so cool 💗 also *can I just say* - the girlie with the stamped on face unlocked some kind of core memory for me💀 that was crazy
There was also this one britney spears barbie i got when i was like 5 of her in the shiny metallic green top from you drive me crazy that the G.I.R.L. dolls you showed reminded me of but i can’t find who made the britney doll :-/
these days my little sister loves the enchantimal dolls, do those count as fashion dolls or not really?
This was so much fun! Seeing Miss What’s Her Face unlocked powerful memories for me. Also A+ for including the absolute BANGER that is Spontaneous Combustion
I've been trying to remember what Chixos were called for years!!! I had the dollhouse when I was a kid but I think it was sold at some point, so I'd try Googling things like "aqua dots dolls" but I couldn't find them. I never really used the beads because I didn't want to "waste" them, except for a single red one I stuck to my bedroom wall lol
Same here! After about tier three or four I was pretty lost, but then I saw ChixO's and I was shocked to not only see a doll I knew but one I had as a kid so deep in the list. They were so fun and the little glitter capsule was not only a huge mess but pretty fun too. I think my favorite was swapping their outfits since they clicked together like legos.
Im glad im not the only one that had those as a kid 🤣🤣 I remember making them little accessories with the beads
Betty Spaghetti was me and my sister's whole childhood! so glad she's remembered. Betty made a great Sailor Moon stand-in
I fucking LOVED Betty Spaghetti! Had so much fun with that shit
chewing on her hair was the best
i love your voice sm like i’m like 3 seconds in and idk i’ve been watching for a minute now and it’s so unique and synonyms to your video (WHICH I LOVEEE) it’s an instant source of happiness!!!
I'm actually really impressed with the sound quality here in this video. I LOVE the content of your channel but it's often hard for me to listen because of something going on with the sound. But this video is actually clean and easy to listen to! Thank you.
I've never actually seen a Licca-chan doll before, yours is really cute! A few of the DS games were licensed over here, but we never got the doll, so it's neat to see her recognized! :D
Also: Smart Dolls are so cool! I love the anime style, and it seems like a lot of care was put into them!
i still have my lovely lisa ds game :)
rip to the madeline dolls not being on here i especially loved the smaller versions and the playsets they came with and i dont feel like theyre super obscure? anyway i love this longer form video and i'd be so excited if you made more like it in the future too!
EverGirl!! Ive been trying to remember those dolls for SO LONG and NOTHING has come up when I've Googled the little bits that I remembered about them! You just made my day, thank you!!
This was the video I found your channel with, I have now binged all your videos within 2 weeks and I love them all you're so knowledgeable and sweet, I'm so glad I found your channel I never had dolls as a kid so learning about all this stuff I never got to experience has been so fun! Thank you!💜
I just want to add on some dolls that I personally think should of been added. Firstly Enchantimals. They’d probably be around the 2nd or 3rd tier. Nowadays they are kinda obscure from stores but I do see ads for new ones every so often which I find interesting. I guess this could of gone under Disney dolls but Disney VIP dolls. If they were separate they’d be lower down and I don’t know if many people know them. Idk if these are really fashion dolls but they were kinda like capsule chix (they released before them actually) but off the hook dolls. I feel like I’m the only one who had any of those. That’s my two cents on what I think should of been added but overall I loved this video. As someone who really wants to get into the doll industry as a job I love learning about dolls and their history and meaning
The Yummi-Land dolls took me back, mainly the pets only because I wanted to get the various pets to add into my LPS collection.
I had an Orange Soda Pop Girl and for a long time didn't know there were other themes in the brand. For some reason I always kept her with my Polly Pocket movie playset. I don't remember how I got her but I just loved that she smelled like orange. I think I decided to donate her at some point but can't remember.
@@princessravendiamond4288 I think I might actually have a few of them (pets) still but I remember selling off the majority as well to clear out room.
Your more doll history centered videos are definitely my favorite! I would love to see more
I don't really have an interest in fashion dolls, but I subscribed for the dry humor and the nostalgia kick, and here I am watching your whole iceberg. You're THAT good! Keep it up!
Ah, can’t wait to finish this. I love these types of videos and someone knew to Doll collecting. These are really big help
what a great, well-researched video! it was fun background audio while editing work stuff lmao
some comments:
i'm surprised you didn't mention that the prettie girls had the same designer as so in style! there's definitely some family resemblance there
madame alexander stopped making my life as dolls at some point in 2013-2014
i think celebrity dolls could've been included! granted, many of them are barbie but there are some pretty interesting ones like the britney spearss and supermodel (like naomi campbell) dolls from the 90s. gwen stefani also released a doll line to promote her tour back in the 2000s way before kuu kuu harajuku
most of the mini mattel fashion dolls never really went anywhere cuz they were pretty poorly-made. speaking of, i would've put the family corners dolls here-they were a pretty unique matchmaking surprise toy. i think the different barbie scales could've been mentioned too, like the mini kingdom line in the 00s or the endless hair girls from dreamtopia.
other 18 inch dolls i would've added are a girl for all time, which is a historical line based on the u.k. but the characters are apparently all from one blood line, and vanange-a pretty aggressively christian doll line 😮💨
overall, loved the video and it was a really nice trip down memory lane ❤️🔥
This video was so good! It made me go down rabbit holes with several dolls. Thank you for making it. I’m really surprised that Shoppie Dolls or Secret Crush Dolls were not included on this list with how recent they were on the market in doll line history.
Thank you for this. As someone a bit older it was so fun to see childhood favorites on here. Jem was everything.
I also have like the most 80s memory of sitting in my friends room with Michael Jackson's Thriller playing on her turn table and playing with her Rose Petal Place dolls. I didn't have any and was so jealous of hers.
This video is gold! Thank you for illuminating the “ iceberg .” And many thanks to the creator who allowed you to expand on their work. Edit: you are one of my favorite creators - I am learning so much from you! 😊 your videos are excellent.
Thanks so much!!
7:43 When I was little I LOVED Strawberry Shortcake. I watched the 3D animated show and The Sweet Dreams Movie so many times and had at least one little figure of each character!! I also bought the remake of the og doll around 1 or 2 years ago because I loved it so much when I was younger.
me and my parents just sat through this entire thing and we loved every second
Surprised by the number of unknown dolls featured. The Trailer Trash dolls with the cigarette 😂😂😂😂
Yeah I'm gonna need like all of those. As a kid I hoped to be a Bratz but as an adult I'm more of a Trailer Trash Doll.
I was super worried I wasn't going to see SpacePOP or Lady Lovely Locks on here, which I know LLL wasn't explicitly on it but I'm glad you at least gave her a shout out :) The secondhand market on her is actually quite vicious and I feel like one of the few people who genuinely cares about that series (US wise, she seems to retain popularity in europe)
Okay, but it was so nice to hear someone talk about the less popular dolls of my childhood. my What's Her Face doll was one of my favorites growing up, along with Diva Starz. Really fun video, brought back so much cozy nostalgia.
Took me a while to get around to watching this. I never watch iceberg videos but I'll give this a whirl for you since I always appreciate your perspective.
If you thought you knew everything about dolls, prepare to be wrong. Thank you for taking the time to make this video 😁
Seeing some of the discontinued lines was so nostalgic!
That Pixidoos video needed a jump scare warning 😂😂😂 This video is amazing!! I saw this iceberg a while ago on a doll subreddit so I got excited to see that you covered it in a feature length presentation!! Some of these doll lines unlocked memories I didn't know I had. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this!! I feel like I leveled up as a doll collector just by watching this.
I sure enjoyed watching this. A lot of dolls I’m really not familiar with (mostly because I’m an older fashion doll collector) but as you had some interesting facts about all of them, I just found myself following the whole video.
It’s so refreshing to see someone who is actually doing his research instead of just talking and making no sense like so many people on UA-cam!
Hope to see more videos like this one soon
Well done young prince (you gained another subscriber here and on Instagram)
The toybox philosophers blog introduced me to a lot of these. But there were still some I have never heard about. Thank you for the video ♡
This is an amazing video! There were so many dolls I haven’t heard of, especially those from different countries. I’m sad that so many of my favorite doll lines on this list have been discontinued or are hard to find, but I love the research you did on all these dolls, and I hope to see more!
Tiny nitpick: I’m pretty sure Boxy Girls weren’t a Walmart exclusive, because I saw them a few times at a Target, but they were pretty tough to find in general.
I love these clean well put together doll information videos of yours. So glad YT recommend your channel so I didn't miss its existence.
i can't believe journey girls was so deep into the iceberg - i had so many of them as a kid and adored them. i thought they were way more popular lmao
The funnest iceberg I watched! Seeing different levels and knowing some of the dolls or remembering some I forgotten was so nice! I was also get excited to see novi stars, literally was playing the intro in my head while watching! My childhood just replayed! I loved this so much, great video!
Love, love, LOVE your videos!! I grew up in the early 90s with so many of these dolls. I had the classic clamshell polly pockets and the fairytale castle for her that I begged my parents for!! I love how genuine and kind you are. I love to have your videos playing while I'm working on things.
you are quickly becoming one of my fav youtubers. your personality is so wonderful and you bring me so much joy! I really hope Magic Attic Club is on this iceberg
