POV Street Photography with the Ricoh GR IIIx in Glasgow [new camera]

- I decided that I needed a different camera for street photography, so picked up a Ricoh GR IIIx, which has a 40mm lens - versus the GR III which has a 28mm lens. Did it make a difference? Well, eh. You'll have to watch to find out. Shot using the DJI Action 2.

I post all of the music I make, including WAV stems; sample packs; Dirtywave M8 song bundles; collections of video textures; early access to videos; and a whole pile of other stuff on Patreon. I know I know, I hate doing this as well, but if you like what I do and want to get more of it, while also helping me offset some of my ludicrous gear purchases, this is the best place to do it:

I do enjoy these street photography videos. Please continue them. That was a lot of material to condense to 20minutes. The stills can always be repurposed into album art collages.
Thanks! I'll definitely do some more in future, once the weather improves a tad ha.
@Mandeep Indapoopa I ain't no fool!
About time you got this up. Loved it. That wee guy sorting his glasses, and the bloke peering round a corner were two highlights. Great selection of photos.
Thank you Master Jones
I had no idea you were a photographer - I've watched your synth videos up till now. Thumbs up from me!
Nice one! I am glad you have now discovered this rabbit hole too. :D
Bloody great 😊. I always love seeing your photos.
Thanks a lot man! Lovely to hear from you. Hope you're doing well.
I really enjoyed the combination of your B&W stills, video and comments. I never knew that seagulls looked more intelligent after a few drinks. Maybe it's by comparison.
Haha. I mean... no comment.
Yeah! Nice one! Really enjoyed this!!!
Thanks so much!
brilliant video. you walked the same route from the town to the west end i do so was good to see another set of eyes and i really need to get to the barras now to see those film cameras!
Uhoh, a local stalker!!! I used to walk that route every day to go to Uni because I was too cheap to get the subway ha. Definitely check out that wee shop. It's just across the road from the main entrance to the Barras. They have interesting cameras turned into lights and things like that.
Love the photo walk
Thanks a lot!
crazy streetwalk thx for the nice video and picture freeze🙃
Thanks for watching!
Great video. Thanks for sharing . Cheers!
Thanks for watching!
Hey buddy.. I hope you are doing well Happy New Year. I kind of dragging as I got covid right on the Christmas holiday and I'm still recovering. You really sparked my attention with your picture taking in this video. I know yours is a digital camera but back in the early 1990s, I bought an old 1960s Konica 35mm camera and I used to take black & while photos with it. The interesting thing is with either black & while or color, the photos from that camera came out cool looking as each photo "looked" like it was taken back in the old days, it really looked like it was taken back in the 60s.
I do like your ways and pics💁🏼
Thanks a lot!
Lots of fun. I love to take photo walks though I don’t do it much these days.
I’ve never been to Glasgow, it looks 😎. Maybe I can make it to Scotland one day. After independence maybe 😉
We will welcome you with open arms! I don't do enough street photography any more. It comes in waves of interest for me...
Loved this vid. Loved the dont care a fu## attitude. 👍
Haha thanks!!
BTW, that violin thing is called a Stroh Violin or Stroviol. Here's a Wikipedia article about them:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stroh_violin
Oh amazing! Thanks for the tip. I have wondered about that for years.
You should look at getting a bridge camera, you can get some nice lenses which get you close to the action.
I've always wanted a Lumix DC-FZ80 which gets great reviews.
Looking at a drone instead.
Maybe a drone is the way forward.
Great stuff - I particularly like the ‘timelapse > photo > timelapse’ format.
Thanks! If I ever take photos again I'll do another one haha.
Interesting and sensitive💁🏼
That's me. A sensitive soul. Thanks for watching!
Mate, REALLY enjoying this. Came for the music gear opinions, staying for these photo journal-y things (plus the beard) 😂
I mean the beard is a major draw. I'm glad I haven't scared everybody off ha. Thanks a lot!
Great vid! My favourite photo is @5:44, looks like a view to the past, love the colours!
Thanks a lot! I love how the old shops and things down that way look. One of my favourite parts of Glasgow.
I like it.
Thanks a lot!
I want to see portraits of all the ladies you hang out with.
Check out allmyfriendsarejpegs.com!
So many brave girls exposing their legs to the uncertain sun and your dodgy self.
Glaswegians are made of tough stuff.
This was great, what settings do you use on the Ricoh?
Thank you! It depends on the weather obviously, but I tend to manually set my shutter speed and aperture, while keeping ISO on AUTO. Exposure compensation I move around as well, but it's often slightly over to allow for shadowy areas on the street. I try go with 1/250 at a minimum as folks are walking around, and f9 or above. :)
Nice pictures! 👍
Thanks very much!
Nice photos and love to see the streets of Glasgow! 🌞
Hey thanks! I was just thinking about your channel earlier today... More videos!!!
Hahah yeah ive been a bit lazy lately! But i just filmed a video yesterday on some drum stuff thats gonna be out soon and ive got like 5 different instruments finished but havent filmed videos on yet! Im trying to be more active on yt now!! 💪
I had a few chuckles there Stephen i enjoyed your video . I am also in to quite afew different photography categories including urban street ive also since bought a " Go Pro Black 10 and plan in the near future to do this type of POV photography videos i have 2 nikon cameras both with compatible lenses including 35/55/mm lenses that are cool for street photos
Get those videos together! I'd be interested in watching them. :)
great video . did you edit your photos before posting or straight outta camera? Thanks
Thanks! I did some post processing on all the images before posting. Nothing wild, but I shoot raw so it's a requirement:)
Thanks for the quick response
Love it! Let’s have more!
Thanks Chad! More to come...
What a great photo/video essay! I'm a bit of a shy street shooter myself, in addition to my music dabblings,. It's fun to see that other synthesists are photogs as well. I've always been intrigued by the Ricoh GR series. One of these days, I'm probably going to have to add one to my arsenal. Right now, I'm usually carrying a little Sony RX100 mkIII, but just got a Canon G7x mkII after my dad passed away. Anyway, thanks for sharing all this! Great stuff!
Thanks a lot for watching! I think there's probably a crossover between musicians and photography, though UA-cam probably punishes me for uploading both types of 'content'. The RX100 is awesome as well! That's what I used to use before switching to the Ricoh. The zoom was dead useful, and the in built mono processing looked great.
I was hoping to see someone I know. I should get out more 😅
We should arrange it somehow so I can pass you by on the street 'purely by chance'.
Still haven’t managed to replace my Ricoh GRD3. Oof.
Gotta get back on that wagon!!
Awesome! :D
What a great username!
Very nice!
Thank you!!
@@StephenMcLeod Love the music stuff but I have a film/video background so appreciate your video and film vids as well. Thanks for sharing!
personally, for me, 28mm definitely works well for every kind of documentary so I use GRii already 2 generations and don't mind to replace with anything else :-) love your non stop comments to this photo walk :-)
I wouldn't have replaced my original GR either, but some idiot spilled beer on it! (Not me) ha
@@StephenMcLeod my first GRii got beers and cannons water during the protests in Jerusalem
Finally died. 🔥🔥🔥
@@VictorBezrukov oh dang. At least it died documenting something worthwhile!
@@StephenMcLeod haha yes died some time after these protests done. stopped working during one of Rock-'n'roll gigs. still not nice 🤣
awesome channel man! our mutual rat friends sent me and send their regards! subbed!
Hey Audrey! Thanks a lot. Glad to have you here!!
@@StephenMcLeod glad to be here and pleased to meet you! 🖤💜💙🖤
And 40mm seems more easy going
I am definitely a fan of the 40mm for this kinda thing.
Never thought there was a Glaswegian alive who would voluntarily walk 10 miles… unless it was to the nearest open pub.. nice vlog tho..👍
Haha to be fair I did end up in a few pubs on the way...
@@StephenMcLeod True... !
Super fun video and great photos. Glaswegians are weird.
How dare you!!!
@@StephenMcLeod in a good way, of course!! ;)
