I encounterd the music of Anthony a few years ago and was mesmerised by the power and the courage of this wonderful person. Not alone a beautiful voice, but also the courage to put him/herself out there. Take or leave it, this is ME. And I love you for that and for your music, it touches my heart everyvtime I listen to it. Thank you and please continue...
He is good friends with Rufus Wainwright, and Antony performed on stage at a Rufus concert singing "If It Be Your Will"...fabulous harmonies, a heart-breaking performance piece. ua-cam.com/video/hnQz8Mgf0wI/v-deo.html
This song is a feeling. It's so sadly real. There are some moments when you really wish to "turn and cut the world". When you're feeling some deep sadness, its melody can make you cry, without even looking at the video.
This song speaks to me on such a deep-rooted level. It is my birthday today and I want to be here 1 year from today and say to myself, I did "cut the world". I'm able to rise above any emotion or physical obstacle in my life. Our own minds can be our biggest enemy in life. I hope to recognize previous behavior patterns, and transmute that underlying fear into peace and utter acceptance of "what is". Thank you for this.
Every time I watch this, without fail, I get goosebumps. Not many tracks can do that, Anthony and the Johnsons, Danish National Chamber Orchestra, take a bow.
Brilliant and unexpected to take the most beautiful song in years and give it a dark twist video. This is brave and new! Not for everyone but Antony and the Johnsons was never for everyone. I love it.

disturbingly beautiful, what a song & video, Anthony is a genius
We all have our visions. True art makes it possible to catch a glimpse of reality , which has so many faces as there are people to be part of it, through the veils of illusion. To me this music, as a lot of the music they make, is a work of art. Very special to see Marina Abramovic in this video. A lot of people (including me) were deeply touched by "The Artist is Present".
Antony and the Johnsons are brilliant - Its an incredible voice - It's often sad songs, but the music just made me feel better I can cry, because of own losses (She showed me Antony and.... Didn't know it before), when hear the music - But afterwards, nothing are to big an issue not to overcome. Thanks again to the music - LOVE IT If you ever come to Denmark again.. Like the woman in the last scene, with a hammer - Like to see that office :)
The darkly red-lipped woman at the end who the "protagonist" locks eyes with is the very amazing performance artist Marina Abramovic. Antony is an artist as well and the ambiguous nature of this video encourages the viewer's imagination to work out the particulars. Many are not accustomed to that, find it frustrating, even pretentious, but art is not art unless it challenges and illicits response. The music is lush, arresting; the video is tragic, organic, takes its time. Like life.
Antony & The Johnsons Cut The World For so long I've obeyed that feminine decree I've always contained your desire to hurt me But when will I turn and cut the world? When will I turn and cut the world? My eyes are corals, absorbing your dreams My skin is a surface to push to extremes My heart is a record of dangerous scenes But when will I turn and hurt the world? When will I turn and cut the world? When will I turn and cut the world? When will I turn and cut the world? When will I turn and cut the world? When will I turn and cut the world? When will I turn and cut the world?
She is scarily beautiful...I think she is the perfect metaphor of live. Beautiful, with dark mind, tear colored eyes and with a sad smile on her face...
the woman I love is listening this song all the day...and we broke with her..now I must show myself and remind me to her when she listening this song.. infinite love with you GONCA.
I don't think this has to do with feminism at all. It has to do with the singers masculine and feminine side and the feminine taking over violently and afterwards she's disoriented because of the change and death of her masculine side.
Enna, it's beautiful what you've said. Although, Marina with her blood red lips looked at her so steadily and intently, it didn't look disoriented at all.
So beautiful, the struggle between masculine and feminine, allowing what is within to come out, requiring to kill the cage that holds you, a transgender love story of Self. How do you kill what is part of you even if it does not reflect who you are on the inside? With much hurt and possible regret. There is love even in the killing. Mourning the loss. I've never seen anything more intimate than crying into the eyes the way she did. Beautiful, just stunning.

Wow, you are very articulate. I really find your point of view very interesting. I have actually changed my mind about the video now. Thanks very much for being so insightful. You really made me see things clearly!
I love how Houten's character isn't proud of what she's done but stands conflicted and empowered by the other women in destroying the "structure" of masculinity. I also love the look she gives to the magnificent Marina Abramovic, it heartbreaking and beautiful.
For anyone who's interested - this song is off Antony's new live album. There are only two new tracks - "Cut the World" and "Future Feminism," the latter of which will, if listened to (it's actually a speech, and there's an upload of it on UA-cam,) will enhance your understanding of this video.
I might check that out, thanks for the book recommendation! And of course we can interpret anything any way we want. I'm an artist, it's a reality I have to accept :)
Not Frank Ocean, nor Kanye, nor anyone else cares about what got you here... Rather, how about we appreciate the beauty of this video and maybe comment on its artistic integrity? Ya know, like the UA-cam comment board was designed for.. Phenomenal video.
Her coral metaphor evokes the psychic pollution of realized culture; it's a compelling image of ugly dreams bled into waking- forming the substrate for beauty that both sustains and suffocates it.
Listen, I get it, this song is wonderful as it decries the bottled up anger we hold or whatever, but when I hear that godawfully simple, melodramatic chorus, over and over, it gets me riled. And really, "dark twist?" Come now.
Goes so hard circa’ November 2024

Of dangerous scenes
But when will I turn

such a great song and video. It's what is is to you. No statement. However, the arrangement and acting are the absolute best. Perfect.
Big, bigger, biggest? Simply wonder-ful.
Marina Abramovic is so haunting... Even a look of her is enough.
Shit, that Nabil is great.. I'm just getting to know his work and he's amazing. Hope he'll make some features soon, I bet they'd be great.

Genius! A great song, a great small film!
Incredible voice, incredible band/ man/ mannette, glad someone is saying something different...
She is scarily beautiful...I think she is the perfect metaphor of live. Beautiful, with dark mind, tear colored eyes and with a sad smile on her face...
Everytime I saw this video always brought tears in my eyes. Especially during International Women's Day. Hey Antony, please come to North America!
People forgot that the world isn't pure. It's a brilliant video because it makes you think, I'm sorry if you're not used to it
Brilliant; so beautifully put.
Breathtaking.
Wow very good video short but says a lot

Enna, it's beautiful what you've said. Although, Marina with her blood red lips looked at her so steadily and intently, it didn't look disoriented at all.
Thanks of God that at least there is someone who tried to see beyond...
Violently beautiful

yes, her and Anohni are good friends; anohni actually played her in an autobiographical opera of Marina's life
This music was composed for her play "The Life and Death of Marina Abramović".
I find it funny how much better music videos have been lately than actual 'blockbuster' movies
I've seen alot of great music videos this year, but this one just...just...wow. Holy shit.
I loved his voice in Bjork's 'my juvenile' song. He has such a unique voice, it's fantastic.

The 'structure' of masculinity is Structure itself. I genuinely pity your ignorance.

Hello, Ian Penman.......

I love Carice van Houten!

Does he sing in another band or something? his voice is so familiar to my earsss (awesome voice)
