    Would have been perfect if in the video Q looks up and smiles like he can see Picard and looks back down.

    Of course he recognized Q's voice. Even as disguised.

      I am not so sure the script intended he did, and the voice was altered quite a bit. But he would naturally want to see who is manipulating her, so he didn't have to find the voice familiar.

    Someone here pointed out that in contrast to his previous appearences Q turned into a true villain here, but I beg to differ.
    Q's curiosity for humanity and Picard in particular has never faded away. In fact, there is an almost altruist quality about Q, he cared deeply about the progression of things - very similar to the "Watchers" (I hope season 3 will explain more about them).
    He saw that humanity might (almost) be decimated by the borg if he hadn't intervened and given them a foreshadowing knowledge of the borg's existence.
    He made Picard make peace with his own mistakes in his youth, namely that Nausican encounter that gave him his artificial heart.
    He offered Riker the chance of a lifetime to become a Q, even though he already knew the causality of that timeline, and Riker saying no, yet still revealing something about the Continuum, at the same time making himself and the whole Q-ness volunerable to analysis by humanity.
    He did the hard choice in Voyager and let Quinn die, cause there was no more novel innovation for Quinn, Quinn had seen everything, past and future, here and there, no more point in being curious cause there was nothing left to discover for him.
    In Voyager, he reformed the Continuum into something better in their "civil war", even being the first Q father and introducing the concept of paternal responsibility to the Continuum.
    He taught Picard that things are not always what they seem to be in the last TNG ep "All Good Things", and the fact that he said that "the trial never ends" meant that he'll still be watching over Picard's shoulder every now and then, and that he cares about him.
    And in fact he did: In Picard Season 2 he confonts Jean-Luc with his darkest and most shoved-away part of himself, but him already knowing the future and his own (!) end, he valued that lesson higher than clinging on to a few more centuries of "life" (whatever that means in the Continuum), so he made that final gesture of giving Picard the chance of making peace with himself - with all the suffering and eventual sacrifice of himself that it included.
    So no, I don't think of Q as a villain, I think of him as a hero, and DeLancie portrayed that final chapter as perfectly as before.

      Sometimes the lessons have to be brutal in order to learn anything.

    It would be so lovely if Q moved and look at Picard when the recording was paused....

    I agree. Acknowledging that Q was aware that that Picard was watching, is totally Q.

    Q might be the hero. He might be getting Soong to change Renee's DNA so she doesn't have depression. Side effect is tiny chance of future decendent getting Irimodic Syndrome.
    So the continuum forces Q to try to get Renee to abandon the mission, but Q works behind the scenes to fix it.
    Who knows?

    If Talinn is only allowed to watch Renee from afar and couldn't intervene directly in her lives, while Q was able to masquarade as her therapist and brainwashed her, who's actually making more of an impact on Renee then?? 🙄

    My theory: Q (w/the help of Adam Soong) wants to stop or otherwise destroy the Europa space mission where Picard's ancestor Renee is on board as one of the astronauts. Europa is likely a top secret mission involving human's "first contact" with an alien entity (outside of Earth), If he's successful, rest of humans will think whomever destroys Europa has a maleficent intention to eventually destroy humanity, hence they begin to think that all aliens are evil and have to be conquered/subjugated, otherwise we would be the one that would be doomed. The timeline then changes to feature Earth Confederacy prevailing by 24th century instead of UFP/Starfleet.
    Laris/The Watcher is assigned to protect Renee and ensure that the Europa mission succeeds as intended to be. If it goes well, not only humans will realize that we are not alone in this big universe, but that aliens are generally good and want us to succeed to develop new techs so humans will be able to enter the interstellar age. Mankind will continue to invest in better space techs and ships to enable them to have the warp tech, until eventually the Vulcans made first contact with Zefrem Cochrane on April 5, 2063, launching the trajectory that leads into the establishment of Starfleet and UFP.

      Yet, no answare why Q wants this to begin with. Or why he would go to such lenghts to make this change in the first place? Why not just snap the alternate reality into the current one, changing all that needed to be like so? Surelly this is an easier way.
      Above that im concerned why such a massive change to human history doesn't affect the continoum. If it would surelly other Q-s would intervene to Q-s plan. They are in all time, so changes like these should be evident to ALL Q as soon as Q cooks it up? We do know the continoum can punish a single Q if he is out of line, it did to this Q before, also how Q did to a younger Q and so on, not to mention that Q-s can give birth to new Q-s who may have different views on matters.
      Lastly I think Q involvment with mortals and such changed him

      @@ThanksIfYourReadIt I think there's something wrong with Q which explains his sudden lost of powers and his vengeful attitude that we don't know yet. Perhaps the Q continuum is being decimated by another immortal alien race (not Talinn's people since she doesn't seem to know who Q is). He holds Picard and humanity responsible for the demise of his people so he goes back hell bent to destroy humanity by changing the known timeline.

    • @rontwentyone
      @rontwentyone 2 роки тому +1

      Yes I think that's quite plausible. Two points to consider though - in s02e02, Q said the horrible alternative timeline Picard was now in was a "world of [Picard's] making" not his and that Picard had an opportunity to make atonement and to offer forgiveness for someone to restore the situation. Q said Picard knew who he was referring to....

  • @LGranthamsHeir
    @LGranthamsHeir 2 роки тому +3

    2:55 - 3:40 It's confirmed: Q is now the official villain of the Trek-verse. The Q we all know from TNG who is known for his curiosity towards human in addition to his more menacing side is gone, fully replaced by a vengeful and menacing Q 😒🙄
    Why is he turning evil? I guess something must have gone wrong with the Continuum. It's likely dying out caused by a war w/another immortal alien race) that he blamed on Picard/humanity, hence he goes on a vengeful trip to change the timeline in order to save his people.

      I think he’s just trying to get his powers back. Is changing the timeline evil? People will die either way.
      He did save Picard from death. I wonder how it’ll all playout down the line.

    • @beejcarson
      @beejcarson 2 роки тому +3

      Im skeptical of him being evil. He doesn’t need Picard and company to change the timeline. He can manipulate contemporary resident members of the timeline.
      Something is going on. I like the idea of another immortal race like the S from I Q.
