Holy crap! These guys are not messing around! Wow! I just might have to put this on my bucket list. It's a long drive from the USA, but I'll make it! :-D Seriously though, these guys were tail-wagging race warriors -- similar to what we might have seen back in the good old days. Excellent video!
That SOB drove like a drunk, triggering an accident amongst 10 million cars. They should have permanently banned him from the event. At least kick him out of this particular race for driving like a lunatic.
This is wonderful racing! And, please, dear British commentators, "Chinook", (a warm, snow-melting wind off the Rocky Mountains onto the prairies), is pronounced "Shin + ook" as in "book".
Thanks. Love the great race cars of the period: Lola T70, GT 40, McLaren... Anyone know what and why the 3 letters in parentheses after the driver's names mean? Like: "(TOR)" and "(MET)" and "(DAR)" ? --"Daughters of the American Revolution" seems unlikely, haha.
I'm from the USA and I have to give credit to the UK for not only inspiring the racing industry as a whole (just look at F1) but also what they've done at this level in automotive history -- chassis design in particular. We make very good allies! :-)
True, much of these particular ones are British: Lola T70, much of/ majority of what went into the Ford GT40 MkII's seen here {MkIV was All American) McLaren (who at the time were also New Zealand... The engines of all 3 types though are American: Chevy (Lola), Ford (GT40), Chevy (McLaren).
All these cars were British. The McLaren was created by Bruce McLaren who was a New Zealander but had already lived in the UK for 7 years before he started building his own cars. The GT40 was a British Ford project designed by Eric Broadley of Lola and built in Essex. Only the later Ford GT-J and the Mk IV were American. The Lola T70 was also an Eric Broadley car built in Huntingdon. They all had American V8 engines though and basically wiped the floor with the US cars of the time.
This old school GT racing is far more enjoyable to watch than modern day F1

Great demonstration of how not to re-enter a track.

Yeah, that was one of those selfish "I'm the only-one in the world" moments.
Totally agree. Very amateur move.
went to several Can-Am and Trans-Am races back in the day! Best racing around!
Best sounds of any era.
Great save for #65 but a shitty re-entry that tore up a couple of nice rides.
The sound of real Detroit iron..... sublime!
Let's pull out into speeding traffic, that's a good idea. That could've been a lot worse. What an absolute muppet.
Of course a great example of, "Hey move out of the way my car is special so move".
GT40s are so nice
Yeah
Back end you used to be tail happy. But beautiful motors.
Ahh, T70 Coupe is nicer...
Yep also Ford GT GT1 and 2017 Ford GT LM as well
That is so fantastic...!
That's the worst driving I have ever seen at Goodwood, that guy has no business being on a race track.
Some "bricks" on the chicane were flapping in the breeze
I love the GT40 😻
There so lucky/fortunate that the crash wasn't way worse.
Those cars are dangerous.
was there a gt40 in that race,

Tom Strutt my grandad was driving that

They are abbreviations of the house for each driver
Pack of Lion's
6:45 hey a Bryant last name I hope it's not Kobe Bryant lol
Take a sip every time they say GT40.
I am fucking wasted
I don't really like American culture but they sure know how to make exciting race cars!
