Do you use the Square reader that connects via Bluetooth? Are you able to use the scanner and Square reader at the same time? Only 1 thing can be connected to Bluetooth at a time so that's what I'm worried about.
@@liamvella223 Mine does connect to bluetooth like my square reader. However once you connect the scanner it still works. I do not know how to explain it. I run square through my android phone. It seems as if the scanner works off my phone and the square reader uses my scanner. I hope this helps.
This is simple and a great idea. Wish they actually had another field for barcode but this will do. For the others who dont understand. The scanner is just saving time typing since when it scans it is just going in as if you typed the barcode which if you didnt have a scanner you could do. That barcode has to be in your item title or sku. description does not work. Thank you for the idea.
I got the scanner he has total life saver. And cost saver. How do we get it to go straight into the shopping cart. The item show up but u have to click it into the cart. And suggestions
That's the tradeoff with using the generic bluetooth scanner we show in the video. It's just used to input the barcode in the search field and then you have to tap/click the item once it shows up. If you want to go straight to checkout after scanning you have to get one of the Square compatible scanners which are way more expensive.
I recently bought a scanner from Amazon. It is paired with my phone but not on the square app. I have put in my items SKU codes in my inventory. What am I missing?
Say you have 2 of one item and sake one, does it reduce your number in your stock quality and once you’ve sold all of the same items does it take it completely out of your system? At the end of the checkout can you go back and see what has been sold and how many of each piece? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for any help that you may be able to provide!!
If you have your inventory in Square and inventory tracking is enabled it will keep track real time as you sell items. So in your example if you had 2 as the current stock of an item and you sold 1 it would change to 1. If you get to 0 the item will stay in your item list and it will show negative inventory if you continue to sell those items. Under the Sales area you can go to Item Sales to see how many of each item has been sold.
What do you use to generate the barcodes. I have a product line with SKU numbers and want to be able to scan barcodes when using my Square Terminal. Thank you.
The steps I use to create barcode numbers are explained in this blog comment here: www.myconsultanttraining.com/barcode-scanner-with-square/#comment-3445
They way we are using the scanner in the video the UPC code needs to be included in the item description. Then the scanner is used to scan the item and put the UPC in the search field. The item will only show in the search results if the UPC is part of the description using a generic bluetooth scanner the way we show in the video.
Do you know if there is a feature to continuously scan rather than having to search, then scan, delete the item then search and scan again? We’ve tried to see if there was but can’t seem to figure it out.
Hi Kawika - I'm sorry, unfortunately I don't. If there are a lot of items you need to delete from your item library it might be easier to export your item library to a CSV file, make the changes to the file and then re-upload it Square.
In Square in the menu on the left if you go to Items & Orders > Items then click on an item to get to the edit item screen we put the UPC code at the end of the item name (that's what makes it pop up in the results when you search by the UPC) and then we also put it in the SKU field.
Hi Kelly - Using the barcode scanner like we show in the video you can scan the item and have the barcode entered in whatever field you like, but you would still need to enter any other information about the product to add the item to your store (description, price, etc.)
@@moderndirectseller could I just scan a bar code that is on a Hershey bar already and would it work for all Hershey bars or would I have to scan every individual Hershey bar?
If the Hershey bar has a regular UPC on it like the books in the video you should be able to scan it. I'm not sure what you mean about scanning every individual bar? Are they all the same or different? If they are the same can you scan one then enter a quantity? The way we use the scanner in the video the barcode just helps to search by entering the barcode number in the search bar for us.
In speaking directly with Square....yes you can have multiple devices linked at the same time and taking payments which will in turn take them out of inventory. At a show I have a Square Terminal and a phone connected.
There isn't a follow-up video because the steps are pretty similar. Here is the link to the blog post that does touch an a few specific things for the iPad --> moderndirectseller.com/barcode-scanner-with-square/
QQ, I use a different software to create barcodes. I have millions of barcodes. Do you know if I can just scan and charge the client or do I need to add one by one in square to charge my client? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Hi Mayte - You should be able to upload all your items to your Square item library. Then if you are using the Square POS app you would be able to see all your items in there and you can search for and add the items to checkout then they pay after you add all the items to checkout. If you're looking to do something else Square support can probably provide more help for your specific situation.
I sell Paparazzi Jewelry and just got my scanner in yesterday and have scanned in some pieces but can’t seem to get it to add to the checkout.. any advice? I’m using a Samsung galaxy tablet.
The scanner is used as the input device to put the barcode in the search field. After scanning the item the barcode will populate in the search field, you should then just see the one item matching that barcode, then you will tap it to add it to the cart. It doesn't automatically get added to the cart after scanning.
@@moderndirectseller very useful video. thanks so much. but after all these steps, my square does not recognize the scanned code and match with that item in the library. instead, it considers the ISBN code as a 13 figure amount. what could be the reason?
@@fatihyalcn5495 I believe I've seen this if you scan a barcode while on the keypad screen instead of the library screen. Also remember how we show using this in the video you'll have to tap in the search box on the library screen before scanning so the UPC code gets entered in to the search box.
Hi Diane! It actually does work on the ipad or iphone. Square just would like you to purchase the one they recommend that's more expensive. It's bluetooth so it works in place of a keyboard with any device with bluetooth. :)

Hello sir. I have problems getting the zebra li 4278 scanner to work with square register on my iPad mini. The scanner scans my items, but on my iPad mini, it displays a large number like 999'999'99. It should be displaying the items name and price. What are my doing wrong? Hope to hear from you.
Can you print barcodes for merchandise that doesn’t already have a barcode and sync it for this reader? And do all square purchases come with the ability to track inventory?
You can generate your own barcodes and label your items yourself then upload those barcodes and item descriptions to Square for checkout and inventory tracking within Square. If inventory tracking is enabled within your Square account you can track inventory in real time.
If the extra taps are too much and you have an iPad you could opt for the Socket Mobile 7Ci bluetooth scanner that has native support in Square POS (amzn.to/2IdXyo5). It will run you over $200 though. We are OK dealing with the extra taps to save some money. There also aren't any bluetooth scanners natively supported in Square POS for Android.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Spoke with Square told me the scanner I had was not compatible. After watching your video I got it to work

Shame that they couldn't use the iphone as the barcode (qr code) scanner and have it link to square.

You can scan a code on an iPad without a separate scanner
Thank you for sharing !
Of course! Glad it was helpful!

I am confused. Where in the CSV file does the SKU have to be so that I can find the items as shown in this video
