I've worked almost 10 years in Chinese restaurants and my husband although he's from Mexico he's a cook there as well💖🌻💖 I have fallen in love with both Chinese and Mexican food. I've been looking for a channel like this so I can buy things for our own kitchen. Despite moving to Mexico I want us to continue to cook our favorites💖💖 I'm so excited can't wait to check out the link
you can sand down the feet/bottoms of your dinnerware set with sandpaper to protect your surfaces! my big essential is a spatula with a thin edge for optimal scraping (beaten eggs, batter, anything saucy) - especially tiny ones
The most essential thing I have in my kitchen that is related to my culture is my caldero by imusa. It is the perfect pot for making rice and getting pegao (the crispy rice at the bottom)
What a great video! I love that grater and your stackable dish set. Your tip about the steamer protector is invaluable, thanks!! My two favorite yet perhaps unusual cooking tools is my pelmeni maker (for russian pelmeni but it's also great for gyoza, dumplings, or ravioli), and my sprouter from SproutPeople which is like a cake pan with a fine mesh bottom for growing sprouts!
@@letitiakiu Nice! They have pelmeni makers on aliexpress or amazon if you want to check them out. It makes it so much easier to make a bunch at a time instead of hand-pinching each one closed.
I Also recommend the TUO vegetable cleaver. It’s a Chinese chefs knife 7 inch. I’ve been using one for a year now and I love it. I actually use it to cut everything.
Oh wow… Silicone sponge?! I think bc you have a foamy dish soap it helps. I’ve tried it before and hated it. One tool I can’t live without it my garlic press!
Letitia, great list and video. Thank you. I was tempted by the always pan when I saw it because the colors are beautiful. Read a blog post of a woman who tests everyday items for heavy metals and the always pan failed miserably. I most cook with my 14” carbon steel wok and the instantpot. You inspired me to get a bamboo steamer, liner and a pre-seasoned carbon wok for steaming. Thanks again.
I got a garlic press that has a cleaning tool specifically shaped to press the leftovers out of the the openings and it makes it so much easier to clean but that grating plate might be game changer especially for ginger!!
Hand potato masher is an essential kitchen item for me. I don't like the texture of blended mashed potatoes and a fork doesn't cut it. Also small teaspoons for eating desserts.
I prefer to use stainless steel and cast iron. Non stick is known to increase risk of cancer, hypothyroidism, pcos and so many other health issues. I personally love indian steamers they made out of stainless steel and u get them in many different sizes with stackable tiers. I was quiet lucky to find japanese made tamagoyaki and takoyaki pan, they cast iron but there weight its nice.
The light knives with the brown handles can be found in asian stores (Thai and Chinese) and are “kiwi brand” knives. I got rid of all of my American knives after my mom bought me some of those knives. They’re cheap and reliable! I have that same light cleaver and also have the heavier kiwi cleaver.
Great video, I love your black metal cutlery set, the shapes are great. I love a good knife at one point when I started working and had money I bought a bunch of knifes, so many my mom banned me from buying more, made me choose 1 and hid the rest. Lol. My no.1 must have tool for making cultural food is a thick wood cooking spoon for making pap.
I literally just got the same dinnerware set from Canadian Tire last weekend. It was such a good deal for so many plates that I could not pass it up. :D
you: essential items in all asian households! me: >_> _> *does not have any of these things except chopsticks lol, but only the plastic ones and wood ones, and all the same-ish size. i pretty much use the one pair of wooden chopsticks for everything. also yes, dinnerware and cutlery, the thing that isn't particularly asian, i have XD
i'm not too sure! stef always preps the batter. one thing i will say though, is that nagaimo makes ALL the difference and changes the texture from pancake-y to crispy gooey goodness
It was funny when she said “bitch” i said I must of heard her wrong but when she said “f***” I almost fell over lol I mean I don’t care I just was surprised
I'm VERY particular about cutlery 😂 we have different sets (that my parents brought from their separate apartments when they moved in together) mixed in a drawer BUT I like one set more 😂 it's wider than your set and it's a good weight 😍 so whenever I grab a piece from the other set I'm disappointed 😂
I love sushi and whenever we ordere we get a ton of chopsticks and i save them. I have one pair that is nicer, it's wood but it has some sort of white coating that makes them easy to clean. Please don't come for me but i eat snacks with chopsticks 😂 like chips, cheetos, basically anything that's small and gets on your hands and this way i got good at using chopsticks :))
hmmm not sure what my culture uses in the kitchen……acadian dishes usually require some well seasoned baking pans and cast iron pans. I would like to use my cast irons on the induction too.
@@letitiakiu lol I get it. I went to my local Canadian tire for the dinnerware as I’ve been looking for those types of plates for the longest time but sadly they were sold out 😩😭
My boyfriend is Hmong and my other friend who is also Hmong said my house was more Asian than hers. We have ramen bowls, a rice cooker, and a huge tub of rice. And my boyfriend keeps trying to add things to our kitchen as well.
I'm sold on the cutlery spoon! "Shovel food better into your mouth" is something I support 😬
For noodle soup, I have little ladles for EVEN MORE OPTIMAL FOOD SHOVELLING

Thank you for not only showing the items but how to use them too...love ya!
That intro is so AD, *looks over the shoulder to find a WHOLE camera crew* oh hello AD. Lol. The chinese Aunty from kungfu hustle was a G!! 😂😂😂
she's my hero!
I don’t think you should get a always pan. Seems like a trend more than essential cooking ware
I'm also staying away from it since we always seem to ruin teflon haha
you can sand down the feet/bottoms of your dinnerware set with sandpaper to protect your surfaces!
my big essential is a spatula with a thin edge for optimal scraping (beaten eggs, batter, anything saucy) - especially tiny ones
great tip! thank you! yes, i love silicone spatulas to scrape the sides clean
You should rename this video "try not to immediately buy kitchen tools". Had to grab the ginger grater-game changer.
LMAO this made me laugh thank u thank u
This was amazing!!! I can't wait to see more Asian kitchen content!
More will be coming!
Can you do a video on your ali express finds! 🤗
ooh ok i'll write that down!
@@letitiakiu literally came to this video just to suggest that haha, with a focus on kitchen stuff!
The most essential thing I have in my kitchen that is related to my culture is my caldero by imusa. It is the perfect pot for making rice and getting pegao (the crispy rice at the bottom)
In our house we like experimenting with all sorts of Asian hot pot bases, my favourites are drunken chicken, Japanese style soy milk and Korean kimchi

A good knife is essential for cooking! And that ginger grater looks like a game changer!
i love that this knife is also super affordable. it doesn't need to be bougie to be good!
I Also recommend the TUO vegetable cleaver. It’s a Chinese chefs knife 7 inch. I’ve been using one for a year now and I love it. I actually use it to cut everything.
Ooh thank you for the recco!
All of the essentials...egg pan, steamer and knife that does all of the important things! Lol loved this!
they're all essential!
Oh wow… Silicone sponge?! I think bc you have a foamy dish soap it helps. I’ve tried it before and hated it.
One tool I can’t live without it my garlic press!
yesss, the sponge really is a love it/hate it sort of thing. and as a garlic lover, i think i'll need a garlic press as well!
I definitely need a grater plate now. I've never heard of it before!
It's fantastic!
I'm a sucker for these type of videos, I'm getting old 😂
Uh huh same here!

Ahaha I'd love to see your knife collection that sounds amazing. I've never had pap but I've seen it and I know I'd love it 😍

the sale is eternal i swear! I bought this set months ago

I hate unitaskers. Smh. If you have a good knife, know how to use it, and take care of your knife, that's all you need.
i also hate unitaskers!!!!! it's why i don't use the garlic chopper/zoodler
6:20 disgusting
stunning looking lady - Do u use forks knifes, spoons etc or mainly chop sticks? i threw all my cutlery out . need to get a cleaver lol
