Hey Simon. I just wanted to say thank you. I've been going through a lot recently and its got to me so much with my anxiety and depression that Id want to isolate myself into my room and not wanted to work towards me goal, basically give up in life. However im still here and alive thanks to your videos. Without your videos i wouldn't be alive and wanting to achieve my goal which is to become a Dr. ive done so much since watching your videos. Even teaching myself bits of Atmospheric Physics. Thank you. keep being the amazing you, you deserve everything great in life.
btw im writing it on here because why should i hide that im finally on the road to recovery again. Just remember your not alone who ever is reading this.
I'm so glad to hear you're on the road to recovery. If I was able to help even in just a small amount with that then this channel was worth it :) Keep striving, and you'll get there!
Simon, Thank you for being so open about your academics. It really encourages me as I'm entering a very challenging Fall semester. You're awesome! Good luck with all your Oxford related hurdles.
as a fan of your chanel i can say that you are not letting us down or anything 😉 we know that you have so much responsibility 😟 and we are happy to see you again .. don't stress about it at all 😄it's ok 👍
Hey! I've been watching this channel for a few years now and have really enjoyed every video, so i'd like to say thank you! Also, I can see this channel getting big quite soon! which hopefully means even more videos, really liking the ones about the specifics of your phd!
Glad to see you back on UA-cam. I understand about busy schedules. It's fun to watch what you are doing on here, but your Phd is more important. I am glad to see so many things opening up for you in the way of video making and your music. Keep up the good work! I am back to teaching, being that our summer is now over. There are never enough hours in the day; you know what I mean?
Thank you from Eugene Oregon USA, I still watch your learning is individual manage time manage notes eat balanced and work really hard video from time to time just as motivation!!! Your the man bro! Cheers!! 🍻
Hi Simon, I hope you enjoyed your trip to Malta, I am looking forward to watching the vlogs featuring our beautiful island!! Best of luck with your PhD :)
It's very nice to have a new video frim you, but I can totally understand that you have lots of other stuff to do. The upcoming videos sound really fun, I'm excited to see them.I don't know if this sounds weird, but I was so positively surprised when you answered my comment on the How was your day video. It's amazing that you took the time to answer each one.
Hi. I just have started to see your videos. The videos make me so calm and feel better. and I was surprised you are studying physics in uni just same as me. So glad to hear this haha ! anyways, big thanks for you from Korea :)
Hello Simon! First of all, thank you for your videos! I absolutely love your videos because of the content you provide and also for the way you present it. Secondly, we are patient. It is understandable that you are doing your PhD and there are several other responsibilities too. Regardless of the interval, I enjoy your videos. Your work ethic is extremely inspiring. Once again, thank you so much for sharing the knowledge. Happy Life! :)
I just finished Seven Brief Lessons on Physics, by Carlo Rovelli, and would love your thoughts on the accuracy of the science. I really enjoyed it, though I'm a nutritional biochemist/ analytical chemist, so physics is obviously not my expertise. I love the idea of making complex scientific concepts accessible to everyone and this book had a very nice, readable flow. Don't let the PhD struggle get you down! Writing your dissertation is a hurdle that is different than the actual data collection, but nearly equal in execution angst. No worries on the slow down on videos! Good luck and I am excited for all of the new videos in the works!
simon! please do a detailed video about how you go about a phD thesis. you could do it live or something? or preferebly run through your whole way of going about it.
+SimonOxfPhys I was just wondering idc if I don't get free time I just wanted to know if I could fit a job in at the same time, I just can't wait to go to uni tbh
I love your videos, I do not understand the physics stuff for the most part, my speciality is languages but you have a cool personality so I binge watch your videos.
Hey Simon. Love the videos. Was just wondering about how you learnt your notes for GCSE? As in, did you learn by the process of READING your notes or by actually WRITING them?
I think it's a mix of the two - I definitely learned something by writing them, probably most of the value actually, and then refreshed my memory by reading them repeatedly. I also went through on one reading and highlighted the key bits, though that's probably frowned upon as it makes the notes more difficult to read next time!
+SimonOxfPhys Great, thank you. Also would your notes be set out in a chronological order or start to end of syllabus or just whatever topics you felt you needed to revise?
I didn't quite understand where we're going to be able to watch the "A day in the life" video with Emily? Oxvlogs or...? PS. We completely understand the absence :)
I am just wondering, why did you choose to get a PhD ? What do you believe that you will get out of the PhD that will be useful for you in life? Because as far as i've understood, you don't want to get into the physics field after uni. (Smiley)
Well when I started the PhD I was pretty convinced that I would go into research as a career - it's only been during the PhD that I've really become so interested in media production and science communication. Also I wasn't done with learning - I wanted to see how far I could pursue my education!
I'm also going to pursue science communication after finishing my PhD, and I always feel it is an error to treat PhDs as a means to an end (of becoming a researcher and a lecturer - especially as there are very few positions for anincreasingly larger number of doctors), the title is often a requirement, and certainly useful for accessing many other jobs outside of academia - whether it be industry, patenting, consultancy etc... :)
hey Simon, I was wondering about the financiel side of oxford because i am kind afrade of that because i am not that rich how did you code? ( btw love your vids)
Sheldon is real! Joke! I study Physics as well in Argentina. I hope one day i can go to Britain to study in Oxford or in Cambridge! I have seen some of your videos and they're awesome!
hi Simon, i'm hopefully going to Exeter this year, and will be in the same building for physics Do you have any idea about which undergrad accomodation I should choose (I know you are post grad so it's unlikely but worth a shot)
SimonOxfPhys yeah i'm from an average working class family, so lafrowda looked pretty good but apparently it's quite oversubscribed. Any opinion on St. Davids or Cook and Llewelyn Mews? Both seem a reasonable 20 minute walk which I wouldn't mind
St David's is nice but there's a big hill you need to trek up to get to campus, which would also go for Cook and Llewelyn. When looking at the accommodation options on a map make sure you're also looking at the height contours haha
SimonOxfPhys I'm assuming St Davids is pretty much next to the train station? I experienced the walk when I went for the applicant day and it wasn't as bad as I thought, but my main concern is that it is situated near the train station which may be noisy

HE'S ALIVE!
You are not letting us down!!! You have A LOT of videos that we can watch while you work on your PhD and have a life.
Please do a tour of Exeter! It's got some great history!
When I've edited the videos I've already shot I'd love to do this!
Fantastic!
@@Likemusicat4 did you get the video?
Simon,
Thank you for being so open about your academics. It really encourages me as I'm entering a very challenging Fall semester. You're awesome! Good luck with all your Oxford related hurdles.

I won't lie, over 1000 comments in total took a long, long time to reply to haha! But it was really interesting to learn about everyone's days :)

There's so much green around you on the street i love it! Beautiful city :)
Hopefully I'll do a tour around Exeter soon so I can REALLY show it off!
Ohh can't wait !! 😄
Ah I really want to go to Malta, as a history student it would be great. It has the biggest working gun in the world!

I study Physics at Exeter (2nd year) as well :D Awesome place!
simon! please do a detailed video about how you go about a phD thesis. you could do it live or something? or preferebly run through your whole way of going about it.
I will be doing this on a PhD watch soon!
+SimonOxfPhys thank you!
Wait you came to Reading University for a talk. When ffs I go to Reading School which is so close. Wish I could have seen you.
and more of those "How is your day?" kinda videos. FELT LOVELY TO MEET A BUNCH OF PEOPLE AND KNOW WHAT THEY'RE UPTO. So, that's in BIG DEMAND
"high-quality non-content" I've never identified with a statement so wholly before.
haha love this comment
Your videos inspire and motivate people to go to university! And how many hours a week would you have spare time when you was at Oxford ?
Not enough... I'm not really the right person to ask haha
+SimonOxfPhys I was just wondering idc if I don't get free time I just wanted to know if I could fit a job in at the same time, I just can't wait to go to uni tbh
Bad Idea Bad Idea Bad Idea
XD Welcome back Simon !
Did you mention you were in acapellascience's latest video? Caught me off guard when I watched it haha
Arg it came out just too late for me to mention it! I'll mention that in the next PhD watch for sure. Was so much fun to do!
Hi Simon, will you still be at Exeter for the next academic year? 😀
Yep I'll be here for another 12 months!
+SimonOxfPhys I didn't realise you did modelling for the accommodation at Exeter 😂
I love your videos, I do not understand the physics stuff for the most part, my speciality is languages but you have a cool personality so I binge watch your videos.
your hair looks great Simon ;)
aw thank you haha

I did them in the order of the syllabus, which was mostly the order that they were taught in, but not always!
Oh boy your stunning accent is love❤️️❤️️❤️️❤️️
I didn't quite understand where we're going to be able to watch the "A day in the life" video with Emily? Oxvlogs or...?
PS. We completely understand the absence :)
They'll be out on a different website in the next couple of weeks - will mention it in the next vlog after they're out!
Your housemate is iDubzzzz???!!?

hi Simon, i'm hopefully going to Exeter this year, and will be in the same building for physics
Do you have any idea about which undergrad accomodation I should choose (I know you are post grad so it's unlikely but worth a shot)
I was in Birks Grange which was great but expensive and kinda far from the main campus. I'd recommend looking at new Lafrowda!

Omg you came to Malta ^^ it's my home country :3
Hi, I'm currently an A Level student who wants to study physics at university, is there any books you could recommend for me to read? Thank you!
Yep, check out ua-cam.com/video/lIoop_NiuDY/v-deo.html and the second part on textbooks - happy reading!
Thank you very much!
Lost it at 6:42 :')
Well at least the weather is ''Good''.
Hey I live in exeter
Did you use the mask of magnaminty in that video with liv? 😝
haha got it in one!
oh no face spoilers
wassup simon
👍🏻
I thought you broke up with your girlfriend. What girlfriend are you taking about?
a "click me" that does absolutely nothing and is difficult to click... well played.
Does it not work for you? The annotation comes up for me
nope :S well i am in Australia haha so that might somehow explain it (our internet is horrid)
