Commercial Compressed Alfalfa v/s Bailed Alfalfa, which do horses prefer?

I've never purchased bailed of alfalfa from a farmer before so this was all rather new to me. Interesting stuff. Always give your horse a choice and they will most likely surprise you.

horses need 1.5 to 3% of their body weight in hay a day… that is not enough

They need that in forage per day IF they were on a fry lot, yes, that would not be enough, but you need to also factor in pasture and any grain you provide.
