“I understand why you would see it that way, however, I see it differently”.
“You are awesome at [insert]. Have you considered [insert]?
“Why would you think / say / feel that?”
“I’m on your side, and I want the best for you. Have you considered [insert]?”
Use reflecting skills: “So, what you are saying is…”
If you are in a romantic relationship, this takes work. Plan to have a once a month “state of the union” talk with your loved one. Just to clear the air, of any resentments. Make it casual, and as non-confrontational, as possible. Speak your mind, and be brave. You might hear things, that are hurtful, but ultimately helpful. You are either growing together, or growing apart. Decide which one, you would like.

I realized how many mistakes I make in a conversation that I did not realize and would have never realized. Thank you so much for the tips you spoke about in this video, I am really looking forward to keeping these tips in mind in order to communicate properly and not make my partner feel alone. Thank you and God bless.

We had trouble talking about how we felt as a couple. We pointed fingers at each other a lot. We were about to give up when we figured out a better way to talk. Thought about telling other couples because it might help them. It's through games for couples like lovify. Where you tell your partner what you like, and then they have to guess what it is. It was a fun way to learn more about my partner.

I don't claim to know everything about relationships but I used to believe that I was advanced in dating. I don't like to argue or fuss but I hear disagreement is healthy. I can listen 👂 more and I tend to get a little loud 🔊 only out of frustration. Truth be told it's like a freaking merry go round and I don't know if she's happy or not.😢😢😢 It's been five years and I wanna marry her but the way life is set up I don't know.

I liked this video. I struggle with empathy, because I am a non emotional person. My wife is ready to move on from me. He has checked out of our relationship. She has requested a deeper emotional connection, and I am unable to provide that to her right now. I am "all in" in learning how to do this, which is why I subscribed to this channel, however she told me she doesn't believe me anymore. I promise to commit to this is unheard. How can I get started? Any books I can read? Thank you.

How to win friends and influence people is a good book to learn how to communicate better. Which is big on being empathetic. People need to be heard.. and the book talks a lot about listening. It’s at least a good start. 👌🏼 Hard work, but extremely helpful.

I find it hard to communicate with my girlfriend. Sometimes going out for a meal together is uncomfortable because we both just sit there in silence even tho we both just had fun at the water park before hand. I want to hear from actual people who have had bad communication and then managed to turn it around. Need a bit of hope

I don’t know if it’s too late to reply but I will anyway. Given that you have done what is in the video and I feel what you’re asking about is different you could do these things:
      - regarding what you mentioned in your comment I think you could in that dinner talk about the activity you just did, how it made you feel, the funny things that happened, memories that you have from your childhood regarding water parks etc.
      - in other scenarios you can talk about anything you’re thinking of in that moment. This could be hard if for example you don’t care to hear your partners thoughts and little stories and therefore you think they don’t, or of in the past they gave a negative reaction to you sharing which made you reluctant.
      - it’s okay to have silent moments in a relationship.
      - try to spend time apart if you’re not, that will give you topics to talk about and share and discuss.
      - open up to your partner about your past, your fears, your traumas your memories etc.
All in all, this won’t work if you both don’t deeply like each other (regardless of love) if you’re not both interested in each other, or if you don’t feel safe and heard.

Just do some of the same things you did earlier in the relationship, self reflect and think, you might feel like you’re still doing the same things however maybe he feels different. You could also just go ahead and ask him, if there’s anything he feel like you do differently, that’s what this video is about communication. Goodluck

How do I communicate with someone when every time I try they tell me not to tell them what they are thinking or feeling, when I'm not trying to tell them what they are thinking or feeling. I'm simply trying to communicate something I have perceived because of their own words, actions, worries, etc. that is causing an issue. It's so frustrating. I feel he is impossible to talk to because no matter how I try to approach an issue, he gets defensive or tells me not to tell him what he's thinking or feeling, when what I'm trying to do is tell him how I'm thinking and feeling. Instead of communication it almost always becomes an argument. I'm about to give up because you cannot have a good relationship without good communication. And I've never struggled so much to try to communicate with people as I do with him. Help.

Me and my partner have polar opposite communication styles. So, while I take more time to compose my thoughts and then come back to effectively communicate, he wants to instantly solve the problem. But the problem is, in the process of composing my thoughts I start to invalidate my feelings and hold myself accountable for starting obnoxious rifts between us and end up being distant towards him. It feels like a constant struggle because neither can I talk to him in the heat of the moment nor do I effectively do so later. This is causing a lot of issues in our relationship and I don't know how to resolve them. Appreciate the video!

I know this is 3 years ago. But my best friend and partner are dealing with this. He shut down on me, because I reacted rather than took that step back. I want to be better. I want to communicate with him better. I react in my own emotions rather than stepping into his shoes. He said the volatile will break us. I don't want that. Please direct me into what books. WHERE can I continue to get help?

My wife and I are to the point where I will be moving out of the house for some time to let her think and give her space. So I won’t be able to apply this method in that time frame. What should I do while we are living separate having two children?

@@danielleanita4988 well it was 6 months ago, I really liked this girl and she kinda didn't wanted to be in a relationship but she liked me tho. Anyways I moved on so I don't think I need help anymore haha. I completely cut contact with the person so we good.

Yes. Pride gets me in a bad place. I wish I had had cognitive BELIEFS that would keep me from being more lovable to my man from Virginia. I want to KNOW what these core beliefs are and replace them with BELIEFS that are good for my relationship with him. How to anticipate what we will go through to create them???

I have this hard time to my fiance . Like im trying to talk to him on somethings is just giving me a answer like nodding head and say okay or what ate you saying or what are you talking about. I really dont know how to talk like its so boring not talking . Also he dont like telling some story like sharing it with me. Is it normal that guy like this from america? He been like this since we meet . But now i realize that its looks so boring and i feel that he dont love me even i know he make time to come visit me in my country monthly , but when we are together we just have hugging or watching on phone without talking. Talking only for question.😢 so sad
