I like it, it's nice to see some thing that I could make, and not a knife that requires $$$ in tools and years of experience. It's not pretty but it's functional and some thing I can try one weekend.
The white coating is more likely a powder coating or something on the steel burning off. It’s very unlikely that something inside of the steel was burning out. In all the hundreds of pieces of scrap steel the only nasty fumes came from the coating. For the lose tongs a tap on the rivet cold and it will tighten. For the propane forge block the door mostly off while heating and give it 15-20 minuets to get nice and hot before putting the steel in. Looks like it might need gas pressure turned up a bit and more air maybe for more heat. But nice work on the knife. Cool to se revisited design. Also congrats on all the channel growth. I remember back when you were still at a few hundred. Doesn’t seem that long ago
I've only been subscribed for a couple of weeks now, looking over your past vids...what I've seen so far has been great! Good advice for beginners, good explanations, etc. Nice job on the knife in this video. Only thing I would have done differently would have been handle material, but for your goal that rubber works out quite nicely.
FargoFX - Where did you go man? I just found your channel and watching your vids through. Going to be budget forging some rebar soon. It can't be ended before I even found it. Like firefly only having a single season and stumbling upon it unknowingly :(
Awesome looking knife. You've given me an idea of what to do with some scrap lawnmower blades that I found. I would also recommend that you occasionally quench the blade in water whilst grinding, lest you undo the temper. Also, you forgot the Amazon link. Just wanted to let you know.
Hi I tried to make this knife so I bought plain steel from Homedepo and I put it in the forge and it wouldn't heat up to a orange color but when I put in rebar it heats up quickly do you know why it won't heat up?
I’d like to forge my own steel to make a knife, but I’d like to make the best type of blade steel possible. What resource could I use to learn which ingredients to use and how to forge it?
I have a piece of O1 steel ( 1/8x2x18) and I'd like to make two kitchen knives from it. In order to make longer blades, I was wondering of I could extend the length of the tang by MIG welding a piece of mild steel onto it? To me, it would seem like it would be OK as there would never be an excessive amount of pressure on it, but I'd like the opinion of someone in the know. Anyway, Thanks, and thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Hey if you go on EBay you can get an 1/2 “ thick 12x4 A36 piece of steel and weld it to the top of that Harbor Freight anvil and not only add weight to it but make your facing much harder. I’m getting ready to do mine and it’s only like $18. If you have a welder? I saw someone do the same thing. After all what is steel but iron with carbon added. Then he cleaned it up and it works perfectly like a steel anvil. Of course the horn is another issue.
Justin Topp Thanks for the info. I’m not too concerned with the mix and it still works. Someone else also posted a video of them adding a steel plate to the top of these cheaper anvils and then he cleaned it up and it worked fine.
i have seen videos talking about danger of hitting hard anvil with hammers shooting pieces of metal off. so is the anvil suppose to be hard? is the hammer suppose to be soft? i am a little confused on this
For heat treating? You could, but vegetable oil is probably better. If you’re asking as a fuel, definitely not. Motor oil is not designed for that, nor will it work for that application.
I’m glad that people are as excited for the apocalypse as I am (:
That’s funny I almost spit my water out 😂😆👍
And it only gets better from here!
I have been watching your builds and I'm going to try and make a knife thank you for your videos

Cool idea. I'll look into it 👍
The harbor freight anvil is cast iron not pure /wrought iron. It has more carbon in it than steel

Another cool project you could do is make a hammer head and handle and/or make a axe from an old ball pein hammer. Also great knife.
Hay bro r u good?
Nice showpiece but how many zombies can it kill?
All of them
I will take twelve
where are you😥
Are u going to make more videos?
why didn't you made a socket hilt?
What are you going to do for your 50k sub Mark
Tongs are by far better that vise grips. If properly forged
could i use motor oil for my forge
For heat treating? You could, but vegetable oil is probably better. If you’re asking as a fuel, definitely not. Motor oil is not designed for that, nor will it work for that application.
