Like Craig said dont be put of by the Infantry in terms of trade. You can get level2 telecoms and work for BT, you can get Truck licence, if you become an NCO you can get level3 management all civvy qualifications by doing an infantry job. You also got RAF and Navy with good jobs. Good luck with your choices
Starting training for the Mercian regiment on Sunday. I’m joining this regiment honestly because at the time it was soonest infantry regiment I could join. I’m joining the army not to build a career but to build myself as a person. To build confidence, not that I’m shy or anything like that but from what I’ve witnessed the infantry is probably the best job on the planet for building confidence in yourself just because of its dangerous nature. The confidence you build not only helps you in any future career you might have but it improves virtually every aspect of your life including your social life and family life just due to the self discipline, hard work ethic, teamwork and people skills that you pick up from spending time both on deployment and in training. I’m 18. I can’t see myself having a long term career in the army but I won’t truly know until later on in life. It’s hard to say what I will want in 5+ years because it’s likely I’ll have a completely differing outlook on this subject.
let's start off by saying loving the shirt ;) perfect color and font that is GREAT advice you just gave and the best one should receive before even going in. have a plan B -after you are done your military career. so many are lost after they leave.

This kind of insightful discussion is what I personally have been looking forward to hear from an experienced soldier to finally decide since family and friends prefer trade roles than the rest thank you@Craig Hollman
Craig, worth pointing out the actual bias by the Army recruiting office staff. I initially had RMP followed by Paras. I ended up in the Guards as they told me as a gullible 16 year old, oh 9 month wait for RMP and you can do parachuting in the Guards! This was based purely on them being in the Guards and also due to location within their recruitment area. Naturally they try and recruit into their regiment but I do think they should be a bit more neutral in that process. I'm not saying they lied but they did stretch the truth. Their role is to assist you in making that informed decision in conjunction with your test results etc. One to watch out for to be fair.
Went to Sutton Coldfield July 1989 for 3 days did a fitness test , few tests in a classroom had a sergeant from royal anglians show us a short film on northern Ireland , after the 3 day selection had a interview with a officer then got his recommendation sent back to careers office , got back and the staff sergeant back then had 3 booklets , green was infantry , light beige was corps and blue was other roles like pay corps , in the end I joined up October 89 I was only 16 wish I got a trade now I was lucky to get my hgv being in the infantry fast forward 31 years later I wish I could join up again

In Indonesia, recruits who join as enlisted or non commisioned officer ranks can choose what unit they want to be part of in the military. But cadets who join as officers will be chosen based on their Psychological test in which unit they are suitable for leading. These vids are really helpful, thank you. I'll be moving to the UK once my citizenship comes through, then I am going to apply for the army. In the meantime, I am trying to research possible roles. I am joining the army mostly for self development, it's something that I have my heart set on even though/especially bcs it's out of my comfort zone. I also think that it'll be a good step to take as an immigrant. I am looking for something that will help me develop a well rounded set of skills (self defence, fitness, fire arm training, vital survival skills, 1st aid etc...) while supporting me doing additional courses (including getting my driving license). I am thinking of pursuing mortuary technology at some point, so I'm keeping anything that helps in that realm in mind. It seems that infantry is a good sort of catch-all for people who aren't entirely sure which direction they're going in yet, but have a basic idea. I am also interested in the paratroopers and intelligence. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Be well. 🍄
Remember you will leave at some point, the army has lots of roles that have civvy qualifications so plan for leaving from day 1 so pick something that we serve you when you leave. Everyone plans to do 22 years but not many do. It is great when you are there, you get to lots of amazing things, go around the world, make friends for life but there are also times when it is dull, very boring and may not be for you. I went in as a 17 yr old, left 8 years later as an engineer, HVAC technician and Army Diver and was offered jobs even before I had left. I don't regret a minute of it but glad I left when I did.
I tried to join the reserves back last year but I was medically deferred for 12 months and when I tried to sign up again in March I was told the maximum age for joining had changed totally gutted 😞

You pick 3 job roles you want to join and then when you go to selection, if you pass for your chosen regiment i.e infantry, you will be accepted onto infantry

Was going to try for the rifles but was told there is a long waiting list. Gone for another now. Had it in my head I wanted to be light infantry as they are very active tour wise and spend alot of time on patrol. You being armoured infantry what sort of operations do you go on?
Same ops, just armoured are in a cvrt or bulldog. They'd be doing the same job as light role, but with fire support from the cvrts and insertion and exertion with them. Armoured inf still do light role stuff but they can also use the armour, they will dismount aswell. Plus Craig isn't armoured inf he's cavalry which is similar but specialise in recce and fire support I believe
Hello Craig I'm thinking of joining from commonwealth nation Nigeria to be precise but my extended aunty living in the uk said to my mom that I should not join the British army that racism is practiced in the army and I might be killed. That if she allows me join she should be ready to mourn me soon.... I'm really devastated right now... what should I do as I'm discouraged
You should say to them, I know that I may die, but the chances are slim and I want to do this, tell them your reasons and maybe they will listen. Follow your heart, because no one can do that for you.

How much of the household cavalry training is engineering based? Obviously you learn about the maintenance of the specific vehicles but I would have thought anyone applying for it would have got an engineering trade course alongside
I’m joining the army soon but am only planning on being there for 4 yrs and idk what I’ll do after, my only other interest is childcare so was wondering if they do childcare courses? Thanks xx
Ok cool, I've never heard of anyone doing childcare course but it's something you can ask about when you join and I'm sure the education centre will do there best to help you find a course
@@combatreadyhqthankyou for the reply, your videos like this and others on household cavalry have been extremely helpful for me,has the recce role changed then?
Apparently from what I've read, Veterinary Technicians aren't just soldiers or Veterinary Techs but are likely to work as a Dog Handler on Ops (deployment)....I'd looked at joining as VT as well but previous experience and qualifications are needed. It's a great job if you like animals and particularly like Horses and Dogs.
Hi Criag I'm 15years old I have wanted to join the British army since I was 10 but what exercises should I practice to join thanks in advance and please reply soon
Burpees x10 pressupsx20 squats x 20 sit-ups x 20 pullupsx5 repeat 5 times a day and I garuntee you’ll be fit in 30days. Throw in a 4mile run once a week and watch the results grow
@@combatreadyhq I think it differs mate, most people have already been and gone haha - Been training 5-6 days every week since November, averaging 7:10 on the 2km as I'm going for paras and just really working on nailing that fitness. Feels like I'm chasing up my AFCO rather than the other way round haha
I've heard rumours that during the covid situation it is the beep test but I can't say for 100% it is. Speak to your careers advisor for that information
No but if you join the pt corps you may be able to get a degree through the army or you could use the army elcas to do the level 4 strength and conditioning course
So if I wanted to do a software engineering remote bootcamp which costs £8000 what’s the best way to go about that? To add context I’m joining the army as a officer but five years down the line I may choose to go back into a civil role
Speak to the education centre and they look at how they can help possibly find that with your Elcas, £8000 you will still have to fund some of that, and it needs to fit the criteria but that's what they are there for
Do you have any contacts who deals with the medical side of things I just need to speak regarding my past I don't want to make an application and waste my time and there's I only want to join the reserves
Is it possible to get another job within the army? For example I joined as a driver communications specialist, but I want to join an infantry job such as infantry soldier or paratrooper.
I have applied and I really want this, but my only doubt is I'm engaged with a baby on the way and I really can't be doing these 9 to 5 jobs anymore with rubbish money especially being sacked due to corona so I sat down watched most of you're videos and definitely felt slightly confident with my decision. Any advice on this.
I’m 15 at the moment and I want to be in the infantry but I don’t have any clue about regiments/battalions/roles etc. Do I have to choose what I want to join or is it just assigned to me? Also what is the difference?
Mate do some research of all regiments and find the job role that you think will fit with you. Yh keep in mind who you want to join because i had a phone call interview and they asked if i had any in mind but if you don't yet, don't worry about it because they'll help you find a regiment
Love ur videos mate ! Does anyone have any idea what phase 1 training is like ? I’m joining royal artillery my 2k time is only 10 mins as I’m not good at running how hard is phase 1 fitness ?
Thanks mate, it all build up and gradual. I always say if you have passed selection you have hit the base level the army looking for. Continue to train until you arrive at phase one and the training will build you up to a standard ready to pass out

Craig Hollman Ok thank you x
So would you be able to apply for W scaffolding or rigging course with enhanced learning and that?
Hey Graig, Im very keen on the blues and royals, wondering how much they work with the foot guards or infantry?
You could get attached to guards para platoon with 3 Para if you pass P Coy other then that we don't really work with them as we are formation recce
@@combatreadyhqthankyou for the reply, your videos like this and others on household cavalry have been extremely helpful for me,has the recce role changed then?
Does anyone have any info on being a veterinary technitian apart from on the army website i haven't herd anyone's personal experience
Start off with running and bodyweight exercises and then can work from there
Burpees x10 pressupsx20 squats x 20 sit-ups x 20 pullupsx5 repeat 5 times a day and I garuntee you’ll be fit in 30days. Throw in a 4mile run once a week and watch the results grow
Hi have a question. What do HCAV mean for the job roles?
Household Cavalry - The Household Cavalry is made up of the two most senior regiments of the British Army, the Life Guards and the Blues and Royals
@@dazlow213 thank you for the information.
Great so you know your role, now good luck getting the AFCO to answer the phone.
Is it hard to get through and get on assessment then?
@@combatreadyhq I think it differs mate, most people have already been and gone haha - Been training 5-6 days every week since November, averaging 7:10 on the 2km as I'm going for paras and just really working on nailing that fitness. Feels like I'm chasing up my AFCO rather than the other way round haha
What would you say is the best frontline role with a decent trade?
Do you know if the 2k run has been changed to the beep test?
Beep test is for officers. Soldiers do the 2k
It's still 2k run I did mine in February.
It’s been changed to beep because of covid so I’ve been told
I've heard rumours that during the covid situation it is the beep test but I can't say for 100% it is. Speak to your careers advisor for that information
It is the bleep test. 2k has been scrapped for the time being, certainly in Lichfield anyway.
I have a level 3 diploma in personal training, could the army put me through a level 4 qualification in strength and conditioning?
No but if you join the pt corps you may be able to get a degree through the army or you could use the army elcas to do the level 4 strength and conditioning course
So if I wanted to do a software engineering remote bootcamp which costs £8000 what’s the best way to go about that? To add context I’m joining the army as a officer but five years down the line I may choose to go back into a civil role
Speak to the education centre and they look at how they can help possibly find that with your Elcas, £8000 you will still have to fund some of that, and it needs to fit the criteria but that's what they are there for
Craig Hollman thanks mate
Anyone have any information on Light Cavalry Crewmen?
Search it on UA-cam and quite a bit comes up, light dragoon guards will have some information
Do you have any contacts who deals with the medical side of things I just need to speak regarding my past I don't want to make an application and waste my time and there's I only want to join the reserves
No you would have to speak to someone on the website or I would just start the process, as then you will know for sure
Craig Hollman I'm just going to apply because I can't get answer out of them. If I get in I get in if I don't I don't worth a try I guess
Is it possible to get another job within the army? For example I joined as a driver communications specialist, but I want to join an infantry job such as infantry soldier or paratrooper.
Sometimes you can transfer yes, it can be possible if you they accept you
Would I be able to change to a different branch of the military , for instance would I be able to join the marines commandos after joining the army
Ben Dover: The marines are part of the navy.
Message me on Instagram mate
@@combatreadyhq I have done mate.
how would you become a royal Marine sniper
Join up and go into general duties and then you specialise I think
To do a medical role will the army pay for the university fees if you work for them after it ?
It depends on the role, and I believe you join do phase one training and then go to university
which job roles are the hardest to get into
I couldn't say sorry
Paras and infantry in terms of fitness
@@combatreadyhq ah okay tars anyways fingers crossed they are recuiting dog handlers in 2 years betch needs to finish this degree
@@danielcolyer9091 Thank you 🙏
@@VoopChoxzy you found any regiments you want to join yet mate?
Love ur videos mate ! Does anyone have any idea what phase 1 training is like ? I’m joining royal artillery my 2k time is only 10 mins as I’m not good at running how hard is phase 1 fitness ?
Have a look at other UA-cam channels like Fabziy and Ranger Media, I found them very informative
Thanks mate, it all build up and gradual. I always say if you have passed selection you have hit the base level the army looking for. Continue to train until you arrive at phase one and the training will build you up to a standard ready to pass out
Craig Hollman thanks mate appreciate the response, yeah that sounds good just didn’t want to pass selection just to go to phase 1 and find out I’m not fit enough aha
I might join the Grenadier Guards, any other Regiment I should keep in mind?
Scots guards and 29 commando
Why do dog handlers get paid less than infantry soldiers?
I can't answer that but infantry do a lot and it's risky!
Please I can’t see you on IG please
What if you and your best friend had planned it for years. You two finally apply but he takes his life shortly after the first exam.. What then my guy? No one ever talks about that.
