„Flowers & Pain“ tells the story of a girl who decides to make a change in her life and to evolve. Unfortunately she has to realize someone very close to her doesn’t think so and wants her to stay where she’s been. Even if that means she stays unhappy. So she decided to leave and to walk her own way.

Your voice brings power and drags into the story as always, the main riff is swimming me through the song nicely, those pauses with your voice only are great, that jazzy finish was a big surprise, nice one :). Do I hear Eddie Veder influence in your voice as well? Also Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots maybe?

Even better that I thought! After having read the concept of the song: isn't it a funny parallel with some people always coming up with Seraina past? OK that was easy. Anyway, great song, André, Mike and Seraina rock us with some punky vibe. It's cool to see the transition between the more mystic vibe of Bird of Paradise album and the punky vibe of that one.

And as someoned pinned before: some strong Halestorm vibes! The scenery reminds me a bit of I miss the misery... Plus, in hindisght, both the aestethics and the themes of Flowers and Pain and Halestorm's Discography overlapps quite well... Was it on purpose? That said, it's normal that happen considering that both of the bands are in the same musical sphere...
I wonder if Dead Venus will explore different sub genres or stay on this track...

wow, nice! this is more metal than the previous album, isn't it? it's also darker, i like that; in some parts it reminds me of the legendary Queensryche. Here she is, at minute 2:17, the real Seraina with her legendary metal-style screams 🤘. A good song. Seraina, one question: why did you destroy that table and those chairs? 😄😄 Anyway, you did well to destroy it, it makes you even more metal👍

Ok I'm going to watch this clip again and again and point out what kept my attention because god how this clip is rich of easter eggs, we see a lot of stuff and that would deserve even a frame-by-frame analysis (plus, it's easter eve, and I've nothing better to do right now). The first thing is that we see Seraina in 4 differents costumes, with different contexts, chronologically:
1) Freaking cool looking possessed goth, in the warehouse [strong Miss the Misery by Halestorm vibes here]
2) Still alone, with a painted black jacket, free hair [when she sings the first lyrics] and jamming a blue E guitar
3) Yellow jacket, with the band. It's the costume and scene which will be seen the most after her alone in the warehouse
4) Kind of "neo-primal" [I guess it's the term... see Horizon: Zero Dawn] outfit with the white background (and I'd like to point out that she claimed to be arachnophobic, which is the reason why Dead Venus will never tour in Australia -and I quote her podcast-, while having a BIG FREAKING spider tatoo, with shadowing and all that stuff, on the shoulder 06:05]
So why do I point out this? Because
1)I desperately need to have something to do to get through the pandemic-
2)It's an introduction to a question I adress to Dead Venus and/or the director of the clip
3)Pictures have a language that is sadly underrated, like the music, when compared to the lyrics, and I wanted to say how much the vid itself is rich and interesting.
The questions/observation:
1) Around the half of the vid, when Seraina in possessed gothic costume (sorry, it's the best name I can give to it take and look to the old rabbit plush, she turns for something like 30 sec in classic (normal would be pejorative) looking Seraina. Then she turns back after slamming the hell out of the poor plush on the ground. Besides, as pointed out before by someone, it's in that "state" that she breaks 3 innocents Ikea products that had the bad idea to cross her path. Why this calm period with the rabbit? Is it because it's a remembrance of the old good times? I can really imagine something like: it's the plush she/he/they gave her a while ago, when she/he/they was/were cooler than now. Plus, the next scene shows Seraina looking and remembering something through the window (I won't bet that the state of the window is meaningful, because it's the first time I do this and I won't go too wild), and then, the slamming-the-hell-out-of-the-poor-plush sequence when she turns back into her freaking-good-looking-possessed-goth (I feel so childish)...
2) Again when she is in the warehouse, Seraina is spray-painting a jacket... the one she wears in her (2) costume. The material interpretation is that, chronologically, the painting takes place before the first verses of the song, but that explanation is lame. Is it because she builds herself even stronger out of the Pain she feels?
3) Time for the costume (4). That one, I really don't know where to put it. I would say it's her deep self, because of the primal vibe, and the short time where we can see her tatoo (and symbolically; tatoo=>body=>identity) and of the bright white lighting of these sequences, but... I've not so much arguments.
4) And now the yellow jacket part: it's the sequence where she is with the band, so it could be irrelevant. BUT as I pointed somewhere on Facebook (or here, whatever, the exact place is irrelevant) it's with this costume that she sings the last verse, with the stare telling "Run. For. Your. Life. Mortal."
So now, my guess about the complete story of the clip [can't say for the song, I haven't the lyrics, and in fact it makes this guessing game funnier]:
-The girl (and it's obvious that it's Seraina, who plays the role of a character-narrator), as said in the summary, want to fly on her wings, but some people dear to her or for whom she's important want her to stay where she is, for any reason (it's up to each of us to guess which this reason is, I'll probably give mine later)
-She is ravaged by grief and sorrows, the fact that the loved ones and the people she believes in reject her agency [BB time: the exact term here is alienation. Good to know if you want to shine in punk gatherings]=> it's the "possessed goth" look.
-After having went through uncontrollable rage (smashing the hell out of innocent scenery), she finally built her new self with litteraly her own hands (the jacket painting), with the memory of the good times and the bright side helping her going through this painfultime.
-She begins to find a way to express herself and join a new: family/circle of friend/community who accept her [the guitar alone with the painted jacket].
-Finally, after having spent so much effort in her emancipation, she is doing what she loves, with other people doing what they love, she's here to stay and beware trying to make her walk the line [the yellow and run-for-your-life-stare stare].
-The white neo-primal look states this: she never changed, but the "betrayers" can't stand to accept her whole self. [Again, this is only supported by the symbolical link tatoo=>body=>identity]
So that is the story of the clip I come up with, and now I'll try to guess what Seraina (as the frontwoman, lyricist and founding member of Dead Venus if I got it right) is telling to us [and, Seraina,you have the right to correct me or slamming the hell out of me if I make you having a speech that is inaccurate]:
Our world is desperately normative. Being different sounds often an error for a lot of people. And when you're a woman in our society, it's even harder to be who you are. As stated in the description: true fans, friends, family, lovers are the wind who blows you toward your desires, not the ones who old you in a cage, golden or rusty, cruel or comfy. When the mask of kindness breaks to revel a possessive face, the fall is harder than the dream lasted long. It takes a lot of will and strength to break free, and it's often a struggle you lead alone, where everyone can be against you at their own ignorance. But you finally become stronger and better than ever, even if you "fall" from a hundred of "friends" to only a handful of chosen family member. Plus, we must be aware of what we says or wish for who we love. Even if they look odd to us, in the end of the day, every human being want to be themselves and being loved for it.
If we support, admire, follow or love anyone, it's our duty to let them walking their way and incite them to do so.
And it's what I'll do till the end of my days on Earth. We are all breathtaking and able to be great; we musn't waste it by crushing the dreams of your loved ones by idealizing them the way you want them to be. [I edit that sentence because I realised that my precedent spelling was at beast conceited... I'm sorry]
Keep being Dead Venus for a while, you deserve success.
(Gosh, I need a hobby... And that was only for the costume, I'm sure I missed something)
