Best "soundproof" room I ever practiced in was with carpet. My buddies lived across from a 4 story apartment complex and they just took the old carpet from the trucks. We had to nail 4 sheets into the wals but it worked. I played thru a half stack, thrasher Metal, full drums vox bass and unless you put your ear up to the outside window you wouldn't know there was a band.
So basically just nail four layers of carpet to the walls? That might be a good idea right there. Thanks. When you say just took the old carpet from the trucks what do you mean exactly?

To anyone curious. These are not great for soundproofing, they are great for sound deadening. People tend to use these to phrases interchangeably, but they're not. Soundproofing is when you restrict air flow to and from a room to reduce airborne sound. One example of this is insulating your windows. It helps stop air from traveling in either direction, which tends to also make noise on the other side somewhat quieter. Noise deadening, which these blankets, and most moving blankets that weigh at least like 7lbs are great for is trying to make a room quieter by stopping sound from bouncing around. Echo and reverb makes a space louder. The difference between the two is that one makes your voice sound more isolated without the echo and reverb, while the first one actually makes your room quieter by keeping some sound from getting in in the first place, which helps make your room more consistently quiet.
@@neeha9449 if your on a budget just sound proof the door most importantly then the window. After that I would work on acoustic treatment for sound deadening.

Thanks for the vid Marcus. It sounds like you're using the word sound "absorption" and sound "proofing" interchangeably, they are actually two quite different things. Sound absorption, which is what you're getting in your studio with these blankets, cuts down the reflection and flutter in the room. To get sound proofing (keeping sound from escaping), you would need to measure before and after, the amount of DB reduction from outside the room from inside sounds, and then inside the room from outside sounds. For sound proofing, you would need a different kind of material which would be much denser and likely be separated by layers of air in addition to sealing off all avenues for sound to escape - a much more difficult and expensive endeavor.
I have a room that I need to add more soundproofing to. I’m trying to keep sound from getting out but also for better acoustics. How much does this work inside your house?
