A ‘weld indication’ could be either a break or a crack on the coaster, the North Carolina Department of Labor confirmed. www.qcnews.com/news/local-news/dept-of-labor-notified-of-weld-indication-on-fury-325-at-carowinds-after-july-repairs/

I'm not surprised to hear about this, with as thoroughly as the ride is being inspected after the first incident... This might get it shut down for the rest of the season with a full rehab or rework in the future, depending upon whatever is causing this...

A Dad picking up his kids saw the crack from the parking lot. It then took an hour to shut down the coaster.

This does not make them look good. I went there a week after the first crack was found, and all the rides were shut down along with the Fury. Now they found a second crack. I am so disappointed in my local park.

At 1.01 in the video it looks like there is a crack close to the top left hand gusset plate next to where the failed fitting has been removed?

The problem I see with their testing, unless it's not being shown., is they don't have the weight of all the riders in the train. Looks like the cars are empty during testing. I'm no math guru, but the added rider weight should be added to the centripetal force placed on this joint.

And that usually is part of the testing phase but if it doesnt run right without riders on, then what difference is putting test dummies on too soon

As far as i know they do both, the run tests w dummies/water bags, and empty runs as well. I could be wrong too, but im pretty sure it’s standard procedure.

@@mo_ahmed18your right, my friend used to do ride ops at universal and when they had to do testing they had to do both empty train and water dummy testing as per state requirements, not sure about the laws in North Carolina in regards to carp winds but they probably are similar if not the same

Will they be making extra inspections of Leviathan and Orion? B&M's have been so reliable that this does come as a shock to me. Flight Deck at CGA, and Medusa at SFDK are decades old and still running as smoothly as the day the opened.

I’m guessing this happened because the beam is n the side of the track instead of directly underneath it (so as not to get in the way of the inversion), so you’ve got all the weight of the coaster on that small corner of the beam. Testing is one thing but it won’t accommodate for metal fatigue happening over time after thousands of runs, plus weather possibly seeping in and weakening the metal maybe. Wonder how many more coasters are designed this way.

When is the Attorney General of NC going to get involved. Either Carowinds failed to inspect the ride properly, or they simply ignored the issues here. The DOL inspectors are not always as impartial as they should be. An independent party needs to lead the Investigaton, not for a cause but why the park was negligent in both discovering and reacting to the failure. But this will not happen, because.

I will gladly ride Fury 325 when it opens, Because I know how redundant roller coasters, especially from this manufacturer are built. At no point were any riders in any danger on this ride, even when the support had completely disconnected. The fact that some people believe that the person who reported the break “saved lives” is appalling
