Subnautica is one of the best game that I ever played and I struggled the same way as you. So here are some tips: Scan everything, even if you have picked it earlier, from titanium to metal salvage to every fish to every plant to every tree to every building component. EVERYTHING Interacting with radio progresses your story in a way. Go to the location of life pods collect PDA/notes/databoxes. Look around the lifepod sometimes the databox are places around(outside) the lifepod (2 out of 10 times). Build seaglide , high capacity O2 tank as quickly as possible. From there you can build as per your discretion You can build your base 100 meters deep and can place a solar panel on top of it an it will still work (its a game lol) This points should be enough for someone who has just started the game and if you follow point 1 and read the PDA notes and pay attention to voice notes, you can very easily beat the game There are loads of other things which will not appear in your PDA if you miss to scan it or never come across it
Ahahaha when you ate the rotten food at the end! 😂 I think this game could actually be a bit more linear than you are expecting it to be. The radio gives you quests, basically. Have fun exploring! Please use your scanner when it tells you to. 😅
A couple things: 1) 50:55 You ate the rotton food instead of dropping it 🤣 2) Yes, you get everything back from deconstructing a base 3) Exploration is never a bad thing in this game, so don't be afraid to explore uncharted territory. The worst that can happen is you dying! 4) Solar panels work effectively even in kind of deep waters, so long as there's some sunlight, so there's really no reason for you to put your base on the surface. 5) Cure the food, dammit! 6) Beacons are your friend.

Ouch. Unfortunate ending. I wouldn't say the worst base *ever*; most people's first bases are not that great. Short-term: build the Seaglide. (BTW: you swim faster if you're not carrying anything in your hands (Seaglide excepted)). Longer term: Explore, remember to scan/read everything. Radio will progress the story; if you want to slow down the story progression, you can not listen to it. 😁
