  • Protestors in France have continued for a ninth consecutive day with demonstrators opposing the government’s decision to lift the retirement age.
President Emmanuel Macron pushed the pension reform through parliament last week, raising the country's retirement age from 62 to 64.
Thousands of people have marched in Paris as shops, banks and businesses were boarded up early in the morning and vans of police stationed along the streets.

How is raising the retirement age "Tyranny"??? Theoretically you can retire as young as you want, its just that the government (ie. other working people) isn't going to pay you to do it. The level of narcissism found in the western world is astounding.

Macron's last speech (yesterday) was that the voice of the people/streets does not overcome the voice of those supposedly elected by the very same people! Guy is able to state such non-sense while knowing that his government has decided to use an exceptional legislation process (for the 11th time in 3 years) which basically bypasses the Parliament so the law can be enforced without any vote. Country of Human rights, LOOL
I am so ashamed of what my country has become it makes me want to vomit! At the same time, I am proud of everyone gathering to fight tyranny and oppression!

I am French and I sincerely thank you for relaying the information. With the current government, it has been 11 times that 49.3 of the Constitution has been applied in force to pass laws without a vote. And 100 times since the Fifth Republic. The French have been fed up for 2 decades, crises after crises! We are already suffering from the employment crisis, the housing crisis, since Macron, he is reforming social security, he is reforming the active solidarity income, he is reforming unemployment assistance. Spend less, work more and tax more. And yet there are things to improve such as hospitals, the shortage in all medical and paramedical professions, nurseries, retirement homes, social housing and rent caps, the relocation of French industries, helping local farmers... help entrepreneurs, micro-enterprises, promote diplomas! And the monumental mistake, declaring economic war against Russia to support the United States. Ukraine is only a pretext to hide the basic problem, NATO. As a result, I inflation throughout Europe. You live poor in a "rich" country. Before the Covid-19, there was the demonstration of Health Professionals because they are understaffed and cannot treat patients with dignity! there was the demonstration of the Firefighters, the demonstration of the Policemen, the demonstration of the Farmers, the Road Transports, the Taxis, the Trains, the Yellow Vests and Red Hats. France has been living in slow motion for decades!!! When you have your diploma, you have to move to another country to come back with experience! Because we still live in the myth, "Young graduate with 5 years of experience, paid at minimum wage. ", we live in a system where a woman, if she wants to work, should not have children or a father does not deserve to have the same rights as a mother, to take leave or be absent to pick up his child. sick. We live in a system where becoming an owner is impossible, or inheriting the house from your parents is impossible due to expensive fees and taxes, becoming a tenant is difficult if you don't have a permanent contract, a guarantor, an amount of salary 3 above the rent for a 20m2 studio! I love France but damn it! Our government is driving us crazy!
Enough is enough! Many French people think that we are approaching a new era of the French Revolution and that the 5th Republic is an antiquated political system. For decades there has been more belief in politics. We no longer vote, we demonstrate. We shout against this system because the politicians are all the same! Today we are at a point in our life where we have nothing more to lose!
