In this week's Stuff You Should Know - HowStuffWorks show notes video, Josh and Chuck delve into two emerging -isms: accentism and ageism.

Guys the accents are great and all in good fun! Political correctnessis getting so exaggerated that people are acknowledging that everyone is different while simultaneously pretending the differences don't exist. Don't give up the accents! !

It looks like actors lip synching the words. So used to hearing their voices for so many years without seeing their faces. Took me a good two or three minutes to get used to.

Chuck looks like I expected, Josh does not. IDK why I expected a Thomas Middleditch-type person for Josh. I'm shook.

Linguists also call this "Linguicism" and it extends to dialects and perceived "incorrect" language use. I made a video about it if you wanna check it out :)

As a European listening to you guys attempt European accents and languages always make me cringe a bit. But you still get points for effort ;-)

Can someone explain why they think they would be unbiased in doing a "How SYSK works" episode? I don't understand why they would be reluctant to do that. Maybe they would be afraid of offending an employer or something?

I bought this up with a friend one time, we agreed that you can do an accent, as long as the peoples you are accenting were never oppressed. Not a hard and fast rule, but I think it has some merit; thoughts?

But that cancels out Irish and Scottish accent imitations and those are two of the best to hear! Here's my 2 cents - if the imitation is done really well, and even a native speaker would be impressed by how well done it is, I think you can get away with it - it's when the accent is completely butchered that it crosses into the realm of mockery - so to people who like to mimic accents, do your homework and put in your practice!

The nationalities that are the most offended by "mocking" accents are typically the most xenophobic nationalities as well which I think says a lot. All accents done by an outsider are "making fun", it's just sad that everything is so offensive to everyone now. Comedy is subjective after all.

Internet Hunting? That is so pointless I can't comprehend it. If you want to actually hunt things try this thing called GO BUY A GUN and go hunting.
Trust me, the graphics are awesome.

You guys think Ageism is as much of a problem the other way around? I find older people always make assumptions and complain about how young adults are dumb, entitled and know nothing. Many of my friends have lost out on promotions/opportunities at their work to people who have less experience but are older. These experiences are anecdotal of course. I wonder if there are any studies or articles about this.

Having a proud Scottish accent, I feel that accentism is often nothing but unfair bias. However, I am conscious that the growing number of 'isms' is robbing us of comedy that shouldn't necessarily be taken as 'offensive.' Ah mean ah'd like tae say ah speshully sobered up, stayed aff the smack 'n' goat access tae the community powur soakit jus tae type this shite.

I love languages and accents. My dad's family is from the south, so it became a hobby of mine to tell the difference between their accents by regions of origin.
Accents is a broad net to cast, but would make a cool SYSK episode. Maybe just displaying the differences in English in various regions and countries.

Isn't the purpose of any accent to point out that people speak differently? I don't know why someone would automatically assume that speaking differently means speaking weird. Even within a single country there could be different accents for the same language spoken by people who are mostly alike but geographically separate.
