  • Shaykh Abdus Shamad al-Palimbani is a Sufi figure who wrote Sufi books from Palembang. Abdus Shamad was born in 1116 AH (1704) AD and died in 1203 AH (1789 AD) at the age of 85 years, in Palembang.[citation needed] Regarding the full name of Sheikh Al-Falimbani, which is recorded in history, there are three versions of the name. The first, as stated in the Islamic Encyclopedia, was named Abdus Samad Al-Jawi Al-Falembani. The second version, referring to Malay sources, as written by Azyumardi Azra in his book Middle East and Archipelago Ulama Network of the XVII and XVIII Centuries (Mizan: 1994), this great cleric's real name is Abdul Samad bin Abdullah Al-Jawi Al-Falembani . Meanwhile, the latest version, written by the Chancellor of UIN Jakarta, is that when referring to Arabic sources, Sheikh Al-Falembani's full name is Sayyid Abdus Al-Samad bin Abdurrahman Al-Jawi. Of the three names which are believed to be the name Abdul Samad, Azyumardi is of the opinion that the last name is called Sheikh Abdul Samad.
