Those lyrics! Oh how I miss straight up in your face Bible scripture/ Jesus lyrics like these! I am not being critical of todays praise and worship and I am not putting God in a box. All I am saying is that I really miss lyrics like this. I mean, most of the scriptures I have memorized are from the songs I played (drums) on the praise and worship team after I chose to follow Jesus when I was 22! I just really miss lyrics like this. Oh! And you know what else?Everybody could sing along with these songs! There were choirs and singers with their microphone channels turned up in the mix to be heard clearly! Anybody could pick a part and sing along! And the worship leader or singer didn’t over-sing or sing too high for people to sing along with. And you didn’t have to sit in the congregation while your skills rot if you could sing a little. There was a place for everybody! And man, you could be a part of the music ministry if you played something other than an electric guitar, keyboard, or drums! There was brass! There were woodwinds! There other stringed instruments! There was all kinds if percussion! Let me shut up and try to go to sleep before I play Ron Kenoly’s “Sing Out” album!
Joseph, scriptural lyrics are important b/c Jesus IS the Living Word (John 1:1-3). It's not about putting God in a box. With scripture songs, God IS the Box; the inside of the box; and ALL that surrounds the box and holds it up!😊 It is He that said, Man shall not live by bread alone; but BY EVERY WORD that proceeds from the mouth of God (Matt 4:4). Joseph, without these scripture songs, we're dead men walking. Jesus told us the words He speaks to us, they are SPIRIT, and they are LIFE (John 6:63). I'll say it w/o fear or favor: No other "cool" christian has the divine power that is packed into a song dripping with God's word! Blessings in Christ.
