The Abraham, and Moses covenant were both based on physical circumcision. They were both told to allow converts, and treat them as native born. There was no physical ancestry restrictions except for the Levites to serve in the temple. From Moses to Jesus it was physical circumcision, and the letter of the law that made someone a Jew / Israelite/Israel.
