- In the final concert of NYO Jazz’s 2018 European tour, Sean Jones leads the band in a performance of Wayne Shorter’s “Speak No Evil” (arranged by Igmar Thomas) at Konzerthaus Berlin.
In the summer of 2018, gifted young jazz musicians from across the country came together to study with world-class jazz masters during the inaugural season of NYO Jazz. A completely free program for all participants, NYO Jazz gives young musicians the opportunity to perform as cultural ambassadors on an international stage and share a uniquely American musical genre with cultures around the world through an international tour each summer. Trumpeter Sean Jones-one of the field’s outstanding performer-composer-educators-served as soloist and bandleader for NYO Jazz’s Carnegie Hall debut and inaugural European tour, which included performances in the Netherlands, Germany, and Great Britain. World-renowned jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves and critically acclaimed trombonist Wycliffe Gordon joined NYO Jazz as special guest artists for the ensemble’s Carnegie Hall debut. Ms. Reeves was also featured as a guest artist on the tour to Europe.
Although we played this concert nearly 3 years ago already, I'm always inspired by Seth's killing piano solo everytime I watch this. My man!
U were in this? That’s dope
BRO, AMAZING JOB BUT WHERE CAN I FIND THE SCORE ?!
@Andrew Sumabat are you the third trombone player?
your face at 5:10 said everything
the jazZ faces on everyone in the band is ridiculous LMAO
That drummer killed that groove. Insane! Perfectly swung. It has just the right amount of wonk
Yes sir
Did the piano really just trade with himself
6:15 MY MAN IS DYIN SOMEONE GET AN AMBULANCE
Lead trumpet?
Nardis quote :D
*Director: Sean Jones*
*Solos:*
Tenor Sax: Chris Ferrari (2:01) (Denver School of the Arts, CO)
Trumpet: Geoff Gallante (2:56) (West Potomac High School, VA)
Bass Trombone: Wyatt Forhan (4:56) (St. Dominic High School, MO)
Piano/Keyboard: Seth Finch (6:35) (Baton Rouge Magnet High School, LA)
so youve switched from essentially ellington over to nyo, i like it!
sunstarv12 indeed lol
Thanks man. Great Big Band!
Incredible performance, even more incredible how in sync everyone was!
How does the trumpet soloist make his sound so flugle-esque? So soft and smooth.
practice and a fathead ribbon mic
A Trompit Too cool thanks. I am a huge fan of Roy Hargrove and just a tiny bit partial to that sound.
Look for him on UA-cam. He has had a great tone since he was 8 years old. Glad he pointed his talent towards jazz.
2:46 That Nardis reference!!! :o
I could watch this video 50 times in a row and it’d still be impressive
The lick he plays at 2:35 is just so perfect
that bass trombone solo is DIRTY
One of the most dynamic performances I have ever seen !!!
NYO can you guys put a list of personnel pls for these vids
Who ever arranged this piece did an amazing job. The way these young musicians were soloing and supporting each other would have made Wayne Shorter proud! Best I've ever heard this piece played!!!
That intro is so gooooood
Wow !!! Jazz will never die ! So So proud of those young folks for showing that real music still exit in a young heart ! 👍👍😁😁
Wonder to see these young musicians, so much talent.
Inspiring and adventurous arrangement of this classic.
My god this is some amazing groove
Why does this SLAP so hard, though?!?!
As a jazz student, I concur with their jazz faces. I'm little jealous that their jazz stank face is better than mine.
a great band, everyone killing it, some great solos. well done, great to see everyone having a good time too.
i know we're not supposed to talk fashion on serious jazz vids. but that red pants under black jackets look is as dorky in a contemporary way
as Buddy Rich's guys in their 70's blue polyester leisure suits. so weird a choice.
Amazing young musicians!!!BRAVO!!!
Great big band and great young 🦁
TROMBONE KILLED IT
Sick!
That piano solo was absolutely amazing. Well done.
does anywhere know where i can get this music like the score ?!
Fantastic arrangement, and performance
Fantastic all young players!
This is heckin awesome
Great performance!!
Damn
Should watch this on big screen tv, sound on home entertainment system. It will blow you away
Drummer - Shia Labeouf
Who is playing lead
That would be nice to know. Presumably the young lady in the middle. Nice range. Could use more power, but perhaps that is due to the mic and mix.
I think it’s Summer Camargo
