Didn’t know that I should be wearing navy blue instead of black. See, just one more reason I adore you! I started a new job recently and I’ve missed your videos! Tuesday is my new day off & I’m glad for it! I really appreciate all of your advice, and I do utilize your knowledge, so thanks!! Also, I do wait thru the commercials bc I know that’s how UA-cam pays… that’s how much I appreciate you lol 🥰 You rock Ms Lady!
Hi Tamara. Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to leave such a lovely and supportive message on your day off. You certainly can wear black if you choose. But if you have lighter features, it may look harsh on you. So keep the colors you wear on top up by your face lighter - lighter colors compliment lighter skin/hair/eyes. The Navy would be an excellent option for trousers and skirts. I hope this helps. Enjoy your day off.
Tracy , great video as always …Could you please do a whole video on what you refer to as “ The noise of the world “ I often find this is really affecting me almost daily in an highly negative way .. I need to know how you avoid and block it out ‼️🙁
I'm a Winter (jet black hair, oreo cookie "brown" eyes, and cooler toffee colored skin) and I look amazing in black but, I've been defaulting to white which also looks amazing on me and it has really elevated my style and wardrobe. As always, great advice
Years ago, I wore so much Black that two people thought I was in mourning. I began to wear black less after that. I was doing it at the time, because I thought it was a nice way to elevate your look. It could be dressy if it needed to be even when it may not have been as dressy as I preferred.
Hi Tracy! I agree! Color is so pretty! When my son got married he had a large wedding. I didn’t want to look like everyone else! I wore an amethyst gown and got compliments all night long. I wanted to stand out and told my husband he could easily find me in a sea of black dresses! Lol 😘💕
Thank you, Melissa. I always enjoy seeing your name pop up and appreciate your taking the time to contribute to my content. I hope you have a lovely day.
I enjoyed this video so much! I am an Autumn and I remember when I went on a trip to Boston I stood out because of my coral dress and brown boots and accessories, everyone I MEAN EVERYONE wore all black!!! And now that I work in an office I notice I’m the only one not wearing black everyday. This video made me feel like I belong here 😂 thank you for the advice!
Mama Tracy! You've done it again for me!! I now know that I am a deep autumn and will start catering to my season thanks to you and this video! Love your advice. I've said before, wish I had a mother like you! Thank you so much!! 💋💋
I noticed this with everyone wearing dark colored coats as well. They all blend in with each other. So I started wearing cream white cause that’s one of my colors and I like the self awareness I have to provide to keep it from getting dirty. I also think it is hard to not want to wear black when one is self conscious because of weight issues. Black washes me out so I wear navy in the winter. To start wearing different colors it can be hard but it pays of because of the compliments you’ll receive.
Thanks for sharing, Mel. I agree with the compliments we receive when wearing color. I, too, wear my winter white wool coat a lot. It will keep you carrying yourself gracefully, for sure.
Tracy this is such a great video!! I just realized I’ve inadvertently been wearing less black with the intention of standing out and looking stylish and it’s working. For my line of work, it’s acceptable for me to wear professional pieces in more vibrant colors and I’ve noticed it makes me feel more confident and I get more compliments! A win win for sure. 😊
Absolutely love your black lace bodysuit! I want it - I think it looks so effortlessly stunning and comfortable. I am a blonde with light skin and light blue eyes and a cool undertone. My color palate is Summer. I am not supposed to wear black, however sometimes a black turtleneck makes the color of my highlights and eyes look more dramatic. Black eyeliner looks horrible on me. My complexion can’t handle it! Have a black scarf 🧣 that doesn’t suit me either. I know someone who wears black all the time. She’s a photographer and doesn’t have a weight problem. I think she perceives the color as arty and chic. I think it makes her fade into the background when she’s photographing people’s important events. I do know women who are on a budget and would prefer to spend money on clothing basics. The little black dress comes in handy and can be pulled out year after. It doesn’t date as fast compared to dresses in other colors. For some women, just going and having a good time is all they care about. It’s an escape! Understand this video is for women who want to stand out. Lastly, I’ve heard blue is a great color to wear during an interview, because it symbolizes trust.
Bravo Tracy, go on contributing to make the world better , more elegant and brighter. I'm so fed up with black garments 24/7 everywhere . How drab streetwear has become, and even chic occasions are overflooded with plain, black clothes. There are so many better alternatives, such as navy , excellent for corporate venues or interviews. As women, we have such an advantage over those poor men in their boring dark suits , so let's enjoy feminine lovely colours to the core.
I was born and raised in Poland and it is considered a big faux pas to wear black to a wedding. Black is viewed as a sad and funeral color so you won‘t find any woman wearing it to a wedding. After moving to the US I was very surprised that it is common to wear black to such a happy event and I cannot bring myself to do it.
I never liked black on me and I finally understand why. I was draped this past Friday by House of Colour as a Deep Blue Autumn (Dark Autumn in other systems) and learned that my "black" is dark brown, navy blue, and dark olive green (one of my favorite colors!).
In my culture black is used in death a lot , widows wear it for years it’s so sad my mom did for 3 years when my dad died. I’m careful with it , because of the energy it carries. I love bright colors . I do have lots of black handbags though.
Your handsome husband must be so happy to have you on his arm! Haha, I can see it! I'm 55 and have more recently decided to not buy anything black anymore. It's taken me until now to understand that this color is too harsh for my personality and how it makes me feel and has always made me feel a bit uncomfortable. But I didn't piece it together. I'm starting to purchase clothing in grey if I need a neutral color. It just makes me feel better. Great advice about black, Tracy!
Good information, Tracy. I am also winter and look good in black. I normally don't wear black for baby or bridal showers or birthdays. I also have not worn back for any professional interviews. Navy Blue or dark gray are my to-go colors for professional interviews. More than anywhere, you want to stand up and show confidence during the interview; I know the majority of other ladies will wear black color, so I don't.
This reminds me of Victoria Beckham wearing navy to a royal wedding. She was pregnant at the time, so she could default to black to look smaller. But she chose navy and looked absolutely gorgeous.
Glad to see I've been on track as I've begun transitioning from buying black as a default for any clothing I buy, to a navy. It was actually a purse which I loved which inspired this. I am getting signs of aging VERY early, I have fine lines at only 25, due to a lifetime of complex ptsd and stressors, and I had worried that because I think I am a winter, I had begun worrying that black may age me more, so I transitioned to navy, as I've realized it's one of my favorites!
Tracy, do you think you would ever do a video on how to rapidly reverse very early aging? I feel like I "hit the wall" at around 12 years old (I am 25 now), and ever since I was a kid I've had people constantly tell me I look closer to 40 than my age. I know this wasn't just a way of picking on me, because I have heard it from several people over several years whom have no correlation to each other whatsoever, and I would often get confused as one of the teacher's aids. I know this is due to an abnormal amount of stress from a very early age showing itself physically in my body, and I have always secretly worried that I never stand a chance even if I begin doing all of the right things now. I'm not sure how familiar you would be with this topic since I know my experience is such an extreme and rare one, but if I would take anybody's advice with the utmost seriousness on this issue, it would be you.
Hello. Enjoyed this talk. I have lived in NY for my entire life and wearing black all the time is just what we do here. It is part of our DNA I think. Anyway, now that I am older and my hair is salt and pepper, wearing black does wash me out. So, I am exploring the world of color. I’m now leaning on jewel tones and I think it work. This New Yorker misses her black though. Thanks again.
Thanks for sharing, Gina. Yes, those that live in NYC all look the same, and I believe that's their goal. When I visited two years ago, I packed a capsule-type wardrobe, they call it - all black and white. The goal was to not look too touristy yet not fit in too much. It was that balance and I every look I wore. I visit my 3 NYC Vlogs videos often.
Wonderful video, Tracy; such helpful & wise advice as always! I wore the exact dress you’re wearing to a wedding last fall & received many “wow” compliments! 😍😍😍
You're most welcome. Glad you enjoyed the video. I don't know if I would wear nude or black on my feet. It would depend on the pieces - pants, dress, skirt.
I discovered that I’m an autumn and I’ve stayed away from black ever since. I just always felt like it did nothing for me. I substitute it with Navy or forest green. But colors definitely elevate your look ladies. Thanks for the video before you head out.
Hi Betsy. Thank you! The dress isn't actually tight, although it does skim the body perfectly. It's a sweater dress, so it's not a tight fit. You may be thinking of a bandage dress, which some may wear for daytime; I probably wouldn't. I'm not actually a fan of the bandage dress altogether. A scuba dress, yes, would work for daytime, too. Those styles fit tight and are not the most comfortable. As mentioned in the video, I won't compromise comfort. I will say if you are not in shape, stay clear of sweater dresses as they won't snug you in and conceal lumps and bumps, whereas a bandage & scuba dress will. I couldn't tell you how perfect this dress was. And, of course, wearing a great color always gets you compliments. I also believe since women have gotten so scaled back in how they dress, as a result of not being happy with their bodies, seeing a well-dressed lady look so elegant amplifies how they feel about themselves, which again is not positive. We need more women dressing up and showing up again to get the word out. You can put the effort in and look good, and it's very uplifting and may motivate women to get back into a healthier lifestyle. WOW, this turned out to be a GREAT massage. Thank you for the inspiration. Have a blessed Wednesday!
Thank you for this video Tracy! 😃❤ I love wearing colour as black doesn't really suit me. Lately I have been purging some black items from my wardrobe to make way for more colour, so your video today was very timely - thank you again! 😃❤
Hi Tracy, I have a friend dear friend and we shop together and hang out a lot, her main color is always black or dark brown. I love color. So sometimes I comment when we go shopping but she should try to get some color, she will try it on and it looks amazing, then always goes back to the black or dark brown. I guess I should not have tried but I just thought as a good friend I would do that. Thank you for this video
Thanks for sharing, Loraine. Please remember that a 'good' friend doesn't advise unless asked. You may be overstepping a boundary and assuming she wants your advice. Your friend gets to dress however she pleases. If she asks for your input, offer. If she doesn't, while you have good intentions, zip it! Stay in your lane.
Diva T, you “did that” (wore it well absolutely), in your all black photo clips (both of them)! Very sophisticated and sexy. I had no idea THAT’S WHY a few of MY GIRLFRIENDS are constantly asking me what are you wearing tonight, next weekend etc… And I do just that, wear the opposite of what I tell them 😂Thank you for all you do in keeping us ladies a step ahead in being our best! Great advice because I am but of course a fashionista.
Nice video, I will say Black is one of my favorite 'colors' to wear, but as I am allready very pale and have dark brown hair I really think it doesn't blend in well in my look, what are some colors that go well with brown haired girls with pale skin? Would really like to get some suggestions. By the way that dress looks amazing on you ❤️
Thank you for this video, Tracy, I have a question. I love to wear dresses but I have some noticeably bad scars on my legs. So I always have to wear tights or pants. I don't feel very stylish when I wear tights. Especially when it's too hot in the summertime. Do you have any advice for me? Thank you in advance.
Great video Tracy - thank you! I do have a question though. You mentioned that you would never question your daughters' clothing choices or give advice unless they ask. I have a 15 year old daughter who struggles with fashion. She is petite and prefers modest clothing but sometimes struggles between what looks borderline granny and what looks modern and modest. Do you think it's ok for me to give her advice when I can clearly see she doesn't feel confident even if she doesn't ask? My fear is that she will be laughed at or mocked by peers in some of the things that she wears.
Thank you. Let me clear up a misconception or assumption; when I talk about not overstepping our boundaries with our adult children, that means children who have left home and are living independently as adults. Raising a child is different. We are still parenting them and will be giving our input more often. It's being aware of WHEN input is needed. Your situation with your 15-year-old depends on whose agenda this is. If you tell your 15-year-old how to dress (style-wise) based on your preference, you aren't helping her learn to be who SHE is and how to make decisions for herself. Maybe you ask her if she wants your input. If he says yes, follow up with questions about her style taste, not yours. The problem we have is most moms are coming from their agenda. Kids don't learn to make decisions for themselves when their mom made every decision for them, based on MOM's agenda or mistakes in life. Good Luck!
Hello Tracy; excellent advise! My question is our son is getting married 12/30/23. The wedding theme is winter/snowflakes/ deer antlers/ pine for greenery. The bridesmaids are wearing black velvet dresses. The bride asked me to wear black also! Help…. Do you recommend black for the MOG? 😳 love to hear your suggestion. Thanks 😊
Thank you, Becky. First of all, congratulations on your son getting married and gaining a daughter-in-law. It sounds like a beautiful wedding theme. Great question. While I think black can make for a lovely bridal party, even though most female guests will be wearing black, it's unfortunate that the bride's or groom's mother wears the same. It's my personal preference that mom stands out from the bridesmaids. I find it unfortunate when the bride chooses the MOB or MOG's dress colors. I think it's OK to give them a few suggestions based on complimenting the overall scheme of the wedding colors, but asking the mothers to wear one specific color that may not be flattering on them is asking a lot. I get that bridesmaid don't have a choice, but they are aware of this when they say yes to being in a wedding. How I feel and how I handle something are two different things. I personally would accommodate the bride's wishes and not say a word to her about my thoughts unless asked. I would wear the black dress as it's her and your son's special day, and she sees from a different lens than I do. Hopefully, black looks good on you. If it washes you out, consider outsourcing a good makeup artist. They can do wonders. Enjoy the planning. It will be lovely.
You might look for a cream, gold or silver (these colors photograph nicely and are very neutral) dress with black lace over the skirt or in a jacket. Depending on how well you know the future DIL, you could show her what you find and see what she thinks. I wore a cute black dress with small white polka dots and pink piping, which met my DIL's color scheme and was not too somber. The wedding was at a Texas hill country historic home. The future relationship is so important and you can demonstrate your willingness to be "on her team". God bless!
I like to dress up and look stylish. However, in the area I live everyone seems to dress down and I always feel like people are judging me for dressing up (like oh look at her trying to show off). That’s not the case, I just like to take care of myself. So I find myself dressing down and then not feeling good about myself. How do you suggest handling these situations?
Many of us can relate, myself included. I don't dress according to others' styles, which is not what flatters me. I've never found it to be a showing-off perception, but rather a confident lady who knows her style and portrays it well and with grace. I hope that helps you become more confident in what you choose to wear and place less value on conformity. You will never see a confident, self-assured lady conform to society's ideals.
I live and worked in an area that is very casual and laid back. While I may dress that way at home, I don’t when I go out, even to the grocer’s! While other teachers were wearing their jeans and sneakers, I wore dresses, suits, and low heels. Guess who had the more well behaved classes?
Tracy, thank you for another beautiful video in a beautiful dress! I have one question. If you colored your hair blonde, would you still remain a Winter in the color category? Thank you.
Yes, a person would still be winter, but their coloring would be off due to changing their hair color severely. Black would no longer look as flattering. I don't recommend drastic hair color changes.
Hi Kelly. I checked the video to see if something had happened overnight, and everything sounded good. So it's on your end. Check your computer settings.
I disagree with THE AVOID WEARING BLACK TO EVERYTHING. SO many places and events these days actually WANT you to wear black. Bartenders, people in the service industry, First Responders, hairstylists, and waitstaff at the finer restaurants all wear all black. I love to wear black, especially when I am going out, and I accentuate my style through a fun pair of earrings, shoes, or a handbag. I use black as a neutral, like animal print. AND all three of my older cousins had FORMAL BLACK AND WHITE weddings! Sometimes, I will use navy blue over black, but it's in a VERY dark navy/indigo blue. AND, I was brought up that we shouldn't upscale the bride or baby shower by looking like a runway supermodel. Please don't make THE BLACK COLOR so awful. I'm a SUMMER and I love black! Color in your face makes black pretty!
It's unfortunate that you are even considering avoiding Black if you like it so much. Black is elegant and chic. I hope you reconsider your thoughts about it if it serves you best.
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... Your response is like saying I don't wear black. But I do wear Black all the time. Your response is like saying that LAW ENFORCEMENT shouldn't wear black. THEY MUST WEAR BLACK.
We appreciate the compliment. There will not be a closet organization video on my end. But I am sure they're out there. Give it a search and see what comes up.
Didn’t know that I should be wearing navy blue instead of black. See, just one more reason I adore you! I started a new job recently and I’ve missed your videos! Hey Tracy! I am down 44 lbs. I think I’m going to hit 50 lbs this month. Wanted to share with someone! 🎉🎉

Tank you, Bonnie. My dress and everything else is linked in the description box
Fantastic tips Tracy! I love wearing color! Navy is my goto color, but I love to wear black as well but I will add pop of color.
This color looks amazing on you! You raise some very important points about wearing black.
Please share what type of undergarments you use with this sweater dress? I always struggle with that in particular.
Like all videos, everything is linked.
Wonderful video, Tracy; such helpful & wise advice as always! I wore the exact dress you’re wearing to a wedding last fall & received many “wow” compliments! 😍😍😍
Wonderful, Amy. Thank you for sharing.
Hello Tracy. Thank you again for such a great and informative video. If I wore an all black outfit, would you still pair that with nude shoes? 💕💕
You're most welcome. Glad you enjoyed the video. I don't know if I would wear nude or black on my feet. It would depend on the pieces - pants, dress, skirt.

I love black clothing and this video was very helpful!! VERY. 🌼
I’m watching you all the way from Africa. Thanks for the video.I’ve learned a lot from your videos
I love your dress Tracy! I didn't see it liked anywhere I believe...where is it from, it's beautiful and the cut is beautiful also.
Thank you, Laura. I just checked and it is linked. I didn't click the link to see if it was still available.
@Tracy Hensel I found it on your blog post ❤️ oh man it's sold out! I will keep this on my list when it comes back!! Thanks Tracy!
Video Idea: how you care for your silk and cashmere (delicates)
I’m sure you have a system!
Fabulous information Tracy, thank you! 💕 👸
Thanks, Erica. I hope you are doing well.
@@TracyHensel All is well all and all life is amazing, I hope you’re doing great too! Would love to catch up sometime, enjoy your week. Erika 💕 👸
I agree the older I get the more confident I am and coincidently I wear less black
Lol Tracy! Black is my lazy color ❤
Tracy, you look gorgeous in that sweater dress. Great video as usual.
Thank you, Lynn! Have a lovely Tuesday.
What should I wear black or navy? I'm a bit darker than you and I have jet black hair.
Good Luck!
@@TracyHensel Excellent advice. Thank you again
God bless!
You look lovely today😍
Of course, how we dress displays the respect we require from others. Great work! Thanks for sharing!
What about wearing black at church??
Tracy, thank you for another beautiful video in a beautiful dress! I have one question. If you colored your hair blonde, would you still remain a Winter in the color category? Thank you.
Yes, a person would still be winter, but their coloring would be off due to changing their hair color severely. Black would no longer look as flattering. I don't recommend drastic hair color changes.
It sounds like you are speaking very slowly. Is there an issue with the sound?
Hi Kelly. I checked the video to see if something had happened overnight, and everything sounded good. So it's on your end. Check your computer settings.
In my opinion, unless you are the bride, a woman's goal should never be to stand out in any way at a wedding.
Thank you for reiterating my message. The BRIDE shines above and beyond everyone else! Amen!
I love that color on you beautiful.
Thank you!
@@TracyHensel You are welcome. Have a great day.
THEY MUST WEAR BLACK.
just dont wear black :)
Perhaps, it just depends. If you are being interrogated in court tomorrow, you may consider black. Let's hope that's not the case. (winky-face)
Dear women you're all Stunning in every color ❤ Speaking of wardrobes would a closet organization vid be coming soon ?
We appreciate the compliment. There will not be a closet organization video on my end. But I am sure they're out there. Give it a search and see what comes up.
