    Summary for self:
    1. It's much harder to do than to plan
    2. Identify the most important goal, and focus on it first
    3. Avoid distractions by setting your environment
    4. Keeping score of your work. Hours work, results, actions done
    5. Review and identify lag/lead measure. Lag = the result-oriented goals you were aiming for, Lead = the action that help you achieved those results.
    6. Take accountability = do weekly review to see what you did, and how you could improve. Peer review may also help

    🤯The biggest takeaway for me is To focus on behaviors rather than goals. What a great video🎬, too many applicable stuff here🙌🏻. Thank you!

      Maybe what this means is to set goals that have to do with behavior! Just thinking out loud.

    Reading the negative amazon reviews of this book, the main gripe people have is that Newport works on academia, where he has a lot of flexibility to isolate himself and do "deep work."
    A busy mid level executive that has meetings, reports to review and sign, and other tasks does not have the luxury to do these things.
    Even a software developer, who can benefit the most from this, may run into these issues.

    A really amazing book which you summarized masterfully. I had it on my list for an animation but I think I will skip it since your video covers most of the angles.
    Well done!

      The only things I've heard are things like a stint of afternoon/evening exercise or nutritious food to recharge your Executive Functioning or maybe other recharging activities, PLENTY of sleep every night, or changing your whole schedule so the side projects you're most passionate about and need the most executive functioning for are done in the super early hours before work and then your dayjob is what you're doing while more depleted.

    • @VioletEmerald
      @VioletEmerald 3 роки тому

      Yeah that's pretty relatable actually too... It can be because of decreased distractions, because of lowered inhibitions while somewhat tired fueling creativity, because you didn't use up your EF earlier, i mean there is Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder and I don't know what it means fully when it comes to functioning etc but also if you're sleeping all day and getting enough rest it's mostly just like you live in a different time zone and the night is your morning... Lol
