For those of us who aren't used to it, it is hard enough to drive on the left even without the complicated traffic that always surrounds major airports. To break it down a little further At the Airport, stay in the left hand lane if you're going on the M1 towards Swords Drogheda Dundalk Newry Belfast and the North East of Ireland in general. On M50 Junction 5: N2 for Ashbourne, Slane, Carrickmacross, Monaghan, Omagh, Derry and the North in general Junction 6: N3 for Blanchardstown, Navan, Cavan, Enniskillen, South Donegal and the North West in general. Junction 7: N4 for Sligo, Westport (Mayo), Galway, Athlone, Roscommon, Longford, Mullingar, Carrick On Shannon and the West of Ireland in general. J9 N7 for Limerick, Cork, Waterford, Tralee, Ennis, Portlaoise, Thurles, Cashel, Carlow, Kilkenny and for the south of Ireland in general. If you're going to Bray, Wicklow, Arklow, Gorey, Enniscorthy, Wexford, Rosslare or the South East in General, stay on the M50 until it merges into the M11 and takes you straight down
I looked up info on tolls and found the ability to post pay by EFlow but it asks for a car registration number. Does this mean license plate? I'll be renting...
Yes, its the licence plate number, but first check with your car hire firm to see if their cars are registered with EFlow, in which case they will charge your credit card for any tolls incurred - some car hire firms do this.
Here's a link to the locations of payzone pay points throughout the country - www.payzone.ie - Most petrol stations offer the facility as do many shops, supermarkets also. You only need to use pay zone for the M50 toll and make sure that you pay the toll NO LATER than 8.00PM the following day - you can pay for the toll in advance if you wish. All other toll roads have toll booths where you can pay with cash or credit card. Check with your car rental company to see if they have an account with the M50 toll operator, in which case the car rental company will charge your account for the toll.
Pity the road from Belfast to the border is'nt proper motorway but just duel carriageway.I suppose it just shows how far N.Ireland has fallen behind the Republic!
Do not rent a car at Dublin Airport. It is crazy prices they charge. Take a Bus to Newry one hour north and you can rent a car for a quarter of the price in Dublin. Dublin is a rip off.

@@oldrestless it does take a little bit of getting used to but I'm Irish so going to mainland Europe or America would be the hard bit

See the tolls, you mention pay stations, are these in like petrol stations etc or do you have to pay online?
