They made Gwen's death worse in this movie. In the comics she was thrown from a bridge and spiderman caught her with his web but the whiplash from it broke her neck. It hits me in the feels in this movie😢
There was suppose to be The Amazing Spiderman 3 and they were setting up the sinister six ( a team of 6 villain in comic ). And Gwen's death was important. But the story and Spiderman's character arc never cane full circle.

"The Night Gwen Stacey Died" is one of the most famous comic book stories in history. It was a huge turning point for the industry as such dark stories just weren't told at that time. So yes, very much consistent with the comics. The details are different for the movie but it was still the Green Goblin who caused Gwen to fall and Spider-Man unable to save her with his webshooters.
@Charlei13 No, the cover had pictures of several characters with Spidey saying one of these people were going to die and he couldn't stop it, but it didn't say who. (Google the image of Spider-man issue 121)
That time slowing effect is an accurate depiction of his spider sense. It does more than warn him of incoming danger, it actually gives him 360 degree spatial awareness. It's probably his most underrated power.
Another underrated power he has, which the movies have not touched on yet, is a rapid healing ability. Not anywhere close to Wolverine, but a broken arm heals up in a couple days.
Gwen’s death is not only accurate to the comics but her dying in almost this exact way was considered the first time a hero truly failed and became a very pivotal moment in comic history ushering in a darker age of comics where the idea that not everyone could always be saved started to become more prominent.
31:50 Yes that's a definitely a part of the story. There is not one universe where Gwen and Peter live happily ever after. Either Peter dies or Gwen dies and the other become Spider-Man. Its crazy because his Spider sense was literally trying to tell him the entire movie that Gwen was in danger every time he saw captain Stacy but his love for Gwen was keeping him from listening to his Spider Sense
Electro is a character from one of the original Sinister Six. So they were trying to incorporate him into the story. But youre right they kinda didnt do enough with him.
Initially, there was supposed to be only one Electro in the film, he was the main villain and it was because of him that Gwen was supposed to die ... But the studio, as always, made its own unnecessary edits ...
That’s the shake-spearing life of Peter Parker/Spider-Man….as long as he has this power the people around him will always be in danger. It’s why so many people love this character, he’s a larger than life figure but lives in a broken down apartment, he’s broke and continues to put others before his own happiness
21:12 Just so you know she's supposed to be the character that ends up becoming black cat. One of Peter's other love interest aside from Gwen and Mary Jane
Those who have ever felt like a nobody can relate to Max. Everybody wants to be noticed and feel needed. Max didn’t turn himself into Electro, everyone else did. The world really can turn the nicest of people into the worst of monsters.
Ill never forget when i went to the teather to watch this, the sound design and the soundtrack slaps so damn hard, the only spider movie (out of all the spiderman movies to date) where i cried like a baby, such an underrated movie,i think Andrew's is the only spiderman with the best depiction of the spider sense. And yes, iirc,Gwen died in a clock tower in the comics.
25:55 that Peter was supposed to be Spider man, but the actor mistakingly said Peter, the act you see there was pure response of Emma Stone for mistaking.
Yes, Gwen is first big love of Peter in comics. Her dying because of Green Goblin is iconic.(Goblin dies pierced by his glider just like in Spider man 1 in the same chapter). To be fair, Peter had A LOT of girlfriends
Gwen Stacey was peters first love interest in the comics but she dies in a fight between green goblin and spider-man then later on Mary Jane gets introduced
Gwen Stacey's death was the changing guard of storytelling in the comics, after her death comics started to become more adult, it's basically called the end of the silver age in comics. Her outfit she died in is the same outfit she died in the comic's.
Another fun fact is that kid getting bullied and saved by spider man was actually Andrew Garfield’s idea to put into the movie with the voice overs saying that they hate him while he’s doing something so simple and small but big and not simple to the kid that’s who spider man is that’s why he’s my favorite
I had that comic too when I was a kid. It was unbelievable what had happened and how it happened. You just didn't expect it. No last second save this time. Man, that was rough. I think that she got the Wonder Man treatment for a bit but I don't remember how that ended.
A part of growing up is realizing that Andrew Garfield Spider-Man is the best one. The movies might be mid compared to the mcu and the original but he played the part to the tee bro
My thoughts EXACTLY I fucking love Andrew as Spider-man I really hope he gets a shot at TASM 3 with a good team as he deserves. Such a shame that they made the movies mid with such cool shots and him and emmas chemistry
The two Amazing Spider-Man films live and die by the chemistry between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. A couple things, yes that’s more or less how Gwen dies in the comics. She was Peter’s first major loss post-Uncle Ben, and even other comic editors/writers were furious at the choice at the time. It was a very ballsy move both for the comic and this film to stick with it because obviously people don’t like seeing characters they love killed off, but I think this films handles it as well as it could. Andrew and Emma were actually together during the making of both these movies, and you can really tell by how well they play off each other. Also yes, they were going to introduce Shailene Woodley’s Mary Jane Watson had there been a third film, but that never happened. She was actually going to be in this one and even shot some scenes, but that was changed because it was felt it would take away from Gwen’s death. Despite the critical reception, Andrew was originally set to get his third film, but he was fired by a producer (it might have been Arad? Idr specifically who) because Garfield missed some public meeting due to being bedriddenly sick. The rest is history. Sorry for the long comment, but I’m glad you guys liked the movies. The general public has definitely softened on Garfield and his Spider-Man movies, and it’s been nice since he is still my favorite Peter/Spidey of the three. Looking forward to more great reactions!
I've literally said he has been my favorite for years and I gotta say when the hype around nwh and about andrew started to happen I was glad to see ppl actually admiring his acting and the movies bc ppl had always hated them in the past
The way they did the death in the movie is a very iconic part of comic history. There are references within the scene that are related to her death in the comics
Yeah Gwen's death is a big part in the comics it only makes it more horrible that her going to London happens but Norman Osborne green goblin goes there meets her ends up getting her pregnant she comes back to peter and goblin takes her throws her off the big Bridge in New York spiderman tries to save her but his web wasn't fast enough and she died while being pregent with green goblins kid. It's without a doubt the most iconic moment in spidermans history.
I remember reading the Death of Gwen Stacy comic as a kid. I was broken-hearted then too. It was devastating. They made it just as impactful in this movie as they did in the comic. And, sadly, the Gwen Stacy story was the only really good story bit in this movie, which is why I expected to not see a third movie. Jamie Foxx felt wasted in this, and that's a damn shame. But the Gwen Stacy story was absolutely the strongest part of this movie. Tragic, but well done. No one wants to be the one who outlives the one they love so much. I've done it, and I'm still pretty wrecked a few years later.
3:48 if anyone is curious and doesn't know, they have such great chemistry because Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone (the actors that play the characters) were actually dating irl at the time.
Andrew is my favorite spider-man and by far the best actor but the movies aren't all that good, they're mid. It gets carried by the great acting and great chemistry between Andrew and Emma. IMO
God damn like if there is just one character that in every adaptation is just close to perfect is, Spider-Man, probably the most beloved character out of all the superhero’s
Regarding what happened to Jamie Foxx - he apparently suffered a "medical complication" of some sort (That his family is keeping the details of secret out of respect for him) while filming a movie. His daughter said in a social media post that he's out of the hospital and also called out the media for making it sound worse than it was to get clicks. The thug who gets the mech suit (Rhino) is played by Paul Giamatti. He usually has hair and a beard (And obviously, none of those tattoos). He's been in a good share of movies so that's probably why he looked familiar to you. Most recently he was in the Disney movie Jungle Cruise which stars Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt. Gwen Stacy does die in the comics. It's a very famous part of Spider-Man lore, and was a big deal since it was the first time a hero actually failed in such a big way. In the comic it was Norman who killed her, not Harry. He throws her off a bridge and Peter catches her with a web, only to discover after pulling her up that she's dead. This was referenced in the first Maguire film where, if you remember, Norman takes Mary Jane to a bridge during the climax and drops her from it, though as you know, Peter was able to save her there. The exact cause of Gwen's death was up for debate for a bit, but it has since been determined that the whiplash from the sudden stop broke her neck - to this day, Peter is haunted by the fact that he sort of inadvertently killed her by catching her the way he did. Though in this movie, it seems her head smacked against the ground. There were many plans for future installments of this series, many of which were teased in this movie - in fact, one of the most common criticisms this movie gets is that it spends too much time setting things up and not enough telling its own story. There were plans for a third and forth film as well as a movie about the Sinister Six (A team composed of six Spider-Man villains, usually formed and lead by Doc Ock or Green Goblin) and a Venom movie set in this continuity. However, the mixed-to-negative reception of this movie, coupled with the MCU wanting to use Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War (As he plays a big role in the Civil War storyline in the comic) lead to Spider-Man being rebooted again in the MCU with Tom Holland. Sony got hacked in 2014 and many details surrounding their plans were released onto the internet, many of which gave off the impression that they were just throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks. Kevin Feige, the head of the MCU, often reads the scripts for Sony's Marvel films and gives them notes. His notes for this movie can be found online - and it's clear that Sony did not listen to him at all, and that in hindsight, they really should have. Most notably, Feige dislikes the idea of Peter's parents being special people, preferring Peter as a normal kid with an ordinary upbringing who becomes Spider-Man purely by chance.
The fun thing is, is that Spider-Man has the spider-verse so there’s infinitely many different versions of Spider-Man. There’s a few things that always happens in a Spider-Man and the most important is that either uncle Ben or aunt may die the day they say “with great power comes great responsibility”
The film was a box office success, making $709 million dollars against a $293 million dollar budget. There was going to be a third film as well as a spin-off film called THE SINISTER SIX, but all these films would sadly be cancelled due to the 2014 Sony Pictures Hack, as someone leaked all th scripts to the films online, and that Spiderman would be part of the MCU.
The sequels weren't canceled because of the hack They were cancelled because of how much the movie underperformed at the box-office They were expecting it to gross over a billion dollars, but instead, it became the lowest grossing live-action movie
She does die in the comic and also little fact that jacket she was wearing in the movie she was also wearing it in the comics when she died which I think is pretty cool
The night gwen stacy died. If i knew there was a comic dedicated for that then i wouldn't have watched TAS 2, i was literally heartbroken for like 3-4 days after I saw this movie man, andrew and emma their chemistry was insane that i felt like i lost part of my soul after watching that death scene..
Me and my buddies were just as surprised back in the 70s when Gwen died in the comic - first death of a non-combatant civilian main character from a superhero/supervillian we'd seen. Shocking!!@
Gwen dying was a build up to the chick from divergent coming in and taking over as Mary Jane Watson the main love interest. They shot a couple scenes but they never followed through with the plan and I guess switched to Tom Holland's spiderman as the current main focus. Andrew Garfields spiderman honestly was the best, even though Tobey Maguires is a strong favourite due to growing up watching him.
this movie definitely does suffer from the same issues that spider man 3 did. trying to cram in so much that nothing gets developed as it should. its unfortunate because andrew is sucha good fit for spider man (they all are in their own way tbh). but the movie definitely does some stuff REALLY well, and one of them is gwens death. its such a massive event in comics, it changed comics and the character of spider man forever, and its handled so well in the movie, especially since its actually almost 1:1 to the comics. it absolutely sucks but its impactful ,and it would have been awesome to see a followup sequel following peters struggle with living with the fact that he was at fault of her death. its also a really good setup for the symbiote storyline.

yeah but its kinda ruins that they’re dead. makes him look not so great
Electro is a character from one of the original Sinister Six.
10:20 That little “oh my God..” was literally everyone’s reaction when seeing Max get electrocuted for the first time. 💀💀
31:45 oh it is absolutely necessary,
Spider-Man exists only to suffer...😅
My fav suit, the way they made the suit move in the winf form the swinging makes it feel so authentic
And yes in variations of spiderman comics through the years, Peter Parker dated both MJ and Gwen.
Electros theme song is so menacing
Ill never forget when i went to the teather to watch this, the sound design and the soundtrack slaps so damn hard, the only spider movie (out of all the spiderman movies to date) where i cried like a baby, such an underrated movie,i think Andrew's is the only spiderman with the best depiction of the spider sense.
And yes, iirc,Gwen died in a clock tower in the comics.
25:55 that Peter was supposed to be Spider man, but the actor mistakingly said Peter, the act you see there was pure response of Emma Stone for mistaking.
Gwen’s death is one of the most important factors of what makes Spider Man Spider Man. Even more so than Uncle Ben.
The amazing Spiderman is also known as the broken or broken hearted Spiderman losing everyone he loves
Real life Chicago definitely needs a SpiderMan
You’ll understand down the road why this scene is so important
i mean what you are refering to is not the reason why it happened here.
@@samuraibeluga3749 character development is what I’m referring to.
Thats what i LOVE so much Spider Man... his entre life is such a tragedy and yet he stands Up and Carry on trying and figthing
Andrew's spiderman has lost almost everyone. His parents, uncle Ben, Gwen's father, and Gwen herself. And three of them were technically his fault
Another fun fact is that kid getting bullied and saved by spider man was actually Andrew Garfield’s idea to put into the movie with the voice overs saying that they hate him while he’s doing something so simple and small but big and not simple to the kid that’s who spider man is that’s why he’s my favorite
poor max he just wanted to be noticed and seen instead of being treated like he doesn't matter
The death of Gwen Stacey is a critical comic book story that changes Peter.
spider man is the example of the sacrifice. he was alone in the fight.
Mine too I have my minor quibbles but he is definitely my favorite of the 3.
I've literally said he has been my favorite for years and I gotta say when the hype around nwh and about andrew started to happen I was glad to see ppl actually admiring his acting and the movies bc ppl had always hated them in the past
2nd movie trash, quit defending it 😹
@@Meepie_Playz That's your opinion, not a fact 👍
2:06 As a matter of fact, yes. In the comics, Kaine, a clone of Peter, operates as the Scarlet Spider in Houston, TX.
Gwen’s death is always be so sad
Gwen’s death is set in stone, she really was a ride or die
Seen part one and after the reaction I was like oh they are going to love part 2
Glad you watched this for context. You're going to need it for later in the MCU.
Yeah there's a famous comic where Green goblin drops Gwen off a bridge in NYC spidey couldn't save her.
this movie deserves trilogy
3:48 if anyone is curious and doesn't know, they have such great chemistry because Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone (the actors that play the characters) were actually dating irl at the time.
5:34 he did say something inspirational but he also asked peter to leave gwen alone
Electro was definitely the best part of the film. Wish he had been the main villain.
My boy had two 3 canon events.
They ruthless
His movies are literally so good , annoys me how everyone ow randomly likes them lol but used to hate on them
Andrew is my favorite spider-man and by far the best actor but the movies aren't all that good, they're mid. It gets carried by the great acting and great chemistry between Andrew and Emma. IMO
God damn like if there is just one character that in every adaptation is just close to perfect is, Spider-Man, probably the most beloved character out of all the superhero’s
So glad they watched the next one so soon
Andrew universe story is a must, its the darkest universe of a spidey character in comics and also very iconic moments, Andrew did it so well....
Incase you didn't know Aunt may always knows, she just never directly tells Peter
"Is that a part of the comics?" Yes. She's even wearing the outfit that she wears for her death in the comics
Gwens death is the biggest Spiderman story ever made. great reaction btw
The sequels weren't canceled because of the hack
They were cancelled because of how much the movie underperformed at the box-office
They were expecting it to gross over a billion dollars, but instead, it became the lowest grossing live-action movie
Bro got the whole story wrong lmao
Water does not conduct electricity.
It is the elements that compose it that make it conductive.
She does die in the comic and also little fact that jacket she was wearing in the movie she was also wearing it in the comics when she died which I think is pretty cool
This film is amazing I don't care what anybody says. It will always be one of my favorite Spidey films ever. Andrew is the best.
0:52 It's the same kid playing young Peter. Max Charles.
That's also the main price of being a superhero yes you always can protect a lot of people but you also have to risk if your loved one's get involved
29:24 THAT WAS EVERYONES REACTION IN THE THEATER IT WAS WILD
10:33 Thats Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat, one of Spider-Mans love interests.
The night gwen stacy died. If i knew there was a comic dedicated for that then i wouldn't have watched TAS 2, i was literally heartbroken for like 3-4 days after I saw this movie man, andrew and emma their chemistry was insane that i felt like i lost part of my soul after watching that death scene..
in every spiderman timeline some dies he loved
Ahhhh, kids...
Anyone who feels Jamie doesn't fit into a role like Max clearly has never seen In Living Color.
Great reaction guys 🔥
Me and my buddies were just as surprised back in the 70s when Gwen died in the comic - first death of a non-combatant civilian main character from a superhero/supervillian we'd seen. Shocking!!@
Gwen and Peter can never catch a break
BEST Spidey suit to date. ❤😅
That's why the spiders worked on Peter because of his father. Brilliant Richard 👏🏿.
