One of the most impressive moments of the game. The cinematic sequence has the makings of a top-notch movie: "All ships, this is commander Shepard. the Reaper is dead. Stand down!" (...) "The Geth don't want to fight you. If you can believe this for a minute, this war will be over. You have the choice, please. Keelah se'lai".
7:21 I don't know why, but I could listen to these last few notes for hours. They really tie up this track so well, you get the feeling that something grand came to its only logical, albeit initially unexpected, conclusion. I always think of Kevin Flynn purging the Grid, leaving nothing but vast, calm space after the nova.
We face our enemy together has a special place in my heart. The first track you hear on ME3 on that iconic earth-in-ruins title screen. I used to just sit there on that screen drowning in its melancholy.
Basically, if you compare Insanity to Casual or Normal, the Reaper's beams can fire about twice as fast, and the beam sweeps across the ground about twice as fast as well, while maintaining a somewhat wider area of effect, and the same forward distance. It also takes much longer to lock onto the weak spot, meaning it's vital to get as close to the center of the bull's-eye as possible (esp. in the bullet time segment at the end - if you don't aim dead center, you WILL die before it locks on).
Could not agree more. Reaper Chase has been my favorite ME3 track for awhile now. Especially dtay's version. How it slowly builds, climaxes, falls back down again, and then builds back up to the final crescendo. Quite powerful. Some brilliant orchestrating was done with this track. Definitely an epic.
meh 5 years late, but its only like 5-10 ships shooting. The entire flotilla is roughly fifty thousand, minus the ones lost during the battle with geth in that moment. but forgive the ending? No. If anything it made the ending even worse. Like how do they make something so badass like that reaper fight and also write such a shitty ending?
I commented here 1 year ago "This alone is more epic than the dull story in Andromeda." Today Feb 28, 2019 I comment again: This alone is more epic than the entirety of Anthem. See you when they release the next Dragon Age, unless they shut down by then.
Well... Songs like these, you had plenty of these in ME3. The only thing that can be on pair in terms of quality from Andromeda is a god damn galaxy map (Cluster rather) music. Which the theme of it is stripped straight from the previous ME games. So yea.. That alone tell everything about the Andromeda poor, lifeless, non epic, boring, generic score.
YES! This bit at the start is exactly what was missing most from the release soundtrack. You hear it at all the crucial moments in the game and it's beautiful. Thanks again.
What would of been cool for an ending piece was the battle with Harbinger possibly on the Citadel when the arms were open. The third battle of the Citadel. On one of the Citadel arms fighting against Harbinger destroying bits and pieces of the Citadel and chunks of the station detach and float off into space whilst the battle for Earth continues beyond the Earth stratosphere, and this music playing after 3:31. Would of make for an epic finale :(
Solaxe S Could of had a repeat of the battle on Rannoch although mix it up abit. The infrared targeting system can play a huge role here in helping coordinate ships in focusing fire on Harbinger. Not only that concept, but I'm sure there's other concepts Bioware could of explored for this particular ending.
Combine the Reaper chase with the boss fight with Sovereign/Saren, and have Harbinger "assume direct control" of something (like he does ALL THE TIME in ME 2). Possibly TIM?
Actually, I really missed a true boss fight against TIM. The option of "assuming direct control" would have been absolutely epic. Brutally hard as an enemy but still somewhat relieving and leaving the player with a thought of "HA! Told ya so!" And as TIM finally collapses Harbinger would have been open for combined attacks of the fleet, similar to the Rannoch Reaper - maybe even with some split action where the player could finally control the Normandy for a short amount of time? Like from EDIs point of view? It would've made her development weigh in even more and give the player an even more drastic reason for the synthesis in the end - as artifical and organic life can not only coexist, but truly cooperate against a bigger threat.
I think having a part where you could pilot the normandy would have been really cool, flying through towards the citadel, weaving in and out of cannonfire, and shooting down the smaller reaper vehicles as you zoom towards the citadel. And suppose you have something like boarding Harbinger to destroy it once and for all? You fly out of the Normandy in a shuttle, head into one of Harbinger's openings, and try to find the brain or power core and destroy it. But you have a time limit, as the indoctrination starts to take effect and you start seeing and hearing things as you progress inward. Then, if you successfully destroy Harbinger from the inside, the Reapers start to lose cohesion, and are slowly taken down by the superior numbers of the Galactic Alliance.
Honestly, I really wish the whole Rannoch sequence had been the actual finale of the game. The fight with the reaper, ending the war between the Geth and the Quarians. Getting Tali her homeworld back. It was PERFECTION.
Big reaper walking towards me, giant space laser primed. "ALl right big guy, I'm alone here, I have no one with me to back me up. However, I have an entire fleet snyced to this orbital strike marker. I have a Quarian in the car behind me who just told me she loved me, I have the entire galaxy on my shoulders, and I have HAD ENOUGH OF YOUR SHIT!!!!" 1:58 plays, and the best part of the game for me started.
Most gym bros are screaming, "fuck you Dad!" When they lift heavy. I'm over here listening to this like, "I'm gonna fuck some reapers up with these gains!"
Mass Effect trilogy music was like a speech. There is the statement, there is the calling and there is the final explanation. Those musics are speaking exactly what I see when I play it.
Wow, great job here dtaylor! Also, really like that artwork you use for the video, the one with Mass Effect 3 written over the N7 logo and the Shepards. Did you make that yourself or is there somewhere I can find it on the web?
my only regret is that such an epic track is for a scene as comical as a giant alien-robot thats probably hundreds of thousands or millions of years old who's likely killed more warriors and starships than we can comprehend utterly fails to hit shepard wielding a laserpointer running back and forth across 20 feet of rock
Actually, Warner Bros has alledgedly licenced rights to produce a film adaptation of the first game alongside Legendary Pictures. However, miniscule progress on making an actual script/screenplay off the branching storyline of an RPG has caused the prospect to be shelved until further notice, or until someone else comes along to take a crack at it.
Then don't give Shep a leading role. I personally wanna see Illusive Man's youth or Anderson's (with Kahlee Sanders and Saren). Or make it all about First Contact War. Or Garrus's days as Archangel. There is much more then Shepard.

I love that at the high point of this song, you can hear the size of the reaper. It's a fantastic piece.
The truly terrifying thing is that's only a destroyer, not even one of their Sovereign class ships.
