thank you for the video … My banana tree bunch consist of 10 trees the tallest of which grew to 18 feet this year. I follow a slightly different approach . i cut all trees even with ground and cover with 2 a cu ft bag of cedar mulch that is all i have done for years . Works for me

I planted mine about the end of May 2021. It was around 2 feet tall, now it's between 15 and 18 feet tall with a trunk mass of 8 to 10 inches. I'm gonna cut it down to 6 feet and bubble wrap it and mulch it at the base. The tree also sprouted 9 shoots. I plan to wrap the taller ones but will cut the smaller ones flush to the ground and mulch up real good.

I would cut it lower then 6 feet cause in the early spring it starts to grow very fast and you will need to mulch it up to 10-12 feet to keep it from growing out. Also I would rethink the bubble wrap because the tree won’t receive any water. From everything we learned you should take everything you cutoff of the tree on top of it the. Cover with mulch or chopped up leaves. We put a fence around ours and learned that we should have made that fence around 6 feet tall They are so fun to watch grow because they grow sooo fast. Ours is at least 20 feet right now have fun. Thanks for watching

Actually in the summer the leaves push up a foot each day, not week. They grow 1/2 inch an hour.

I'm thinking about putting a large bag of leaves and grass clippings over the stalk of the banana tree. Zone 5. I'm hoping this would work.

If you haven’t already done it I would mow the leaves first to make the leaves more dense and also when you cut back the banana tree put the leaves over the stock first as the leaves break down it sends nutrients to the stock If you’re just putting a bag of leaves on top you need to make sure that it gives you good enough coverage

We have a red one that we take into our pool house in the winter. Believe it or not, we cut it all the way down before we bring it in. In the spring it is huge again. We just water weekly.

Zone 5-6? Wow. And we worry about our banana trees getting some freeze burned leaves here in zone 9b. You folks are brave. Too bad you don't get to enjoy the fruit which can take up to 18 months to be ready for harvest.
