Something that people aways gets wrong with gohan is that its his dream to be a scholar. She's just making that dream to become reality.
that was not gohans decision, Im not saying its a bad thing, but he was saying he would do it when he was 3, 3 year olds dont have life goals
While wasting his potential and on the long run endangering the world because he isn't strong enough
@@charliealgumacoisa4543 Gohan doesn't like to fight and that's acknowledged in the Cell saga. Gohan is always needing to be pushed to fight unlike Goku who will actively seek out one and isn't unwilling to
@@yurazahhe said it in the manga?though chi chi was just pushing for him to get that dream he wanted
@@crestofhonor2349 Gohan is a pacifist. the same way A16 was. he doesn't like to fight. agreed. but don't tell me that gohan decided by himself, before being 5 years old, that he wanted to be a schoolar.
let's be real. at 4-5 years old all you f*cking care is what gifts you will get on your birthday, or on christmas, and playing with friends.
but, for whatever reason, chichi, who was a fighter since she was a little girl, decided by herself that she wanted her son to be a schoolar since fighting doesn't bring money home.
she shifted gears as soon as she found Videl's family is loaded. it's fine. it's fine. if you have to leave school for a few days to train it's fine. make sure you win.
I admit I see her point of view even if I don't agree but GOHAN DIDN'T WANT TO BE A SCHOOLAR.
first thing he did after he left to go to namek? changed in his battle uniform and train with krilin. did he study during the trip? NO. NEVER. even though they had no reason to believe they will be in danger. he didn't give sh*t about studies. he wanted to train.
I'm a pacifist. I prefer to solve things with words instead of fists but, rest assured, if I were gohan, would train any chance I have. not to fight others, but to improve myself.
that's one of the first things Roshi taught goku. you don't train to fight others or to look cool. you train to improve yourself.
Chi-Chi is a genuinely loving wife and mother with big anger issues. In that aspect, Goku is the perfect husband for her, because he understands her well enough not to take her outbursts to heart. Even though he's often the cause of the outbursts.
If I remember the kiss scene is supposed to be a joke on rural/ traditional couples in Japan not being that intimate in their affection. Which gives us the hilarious headcannon that chichi doesn't know what a kiss is either😂
I will bat for Chichi in her "worst moment". Her caring about her son who has been missing for a year and now covered in bruises would be her number one priority, over her husband who has broken nearly every bone in his body twice over and a couple holes through his body, and even died once already. If anything I find the others trying to get her to feel sorry for Goku like its the pity Olympics and even Yajirobe asking if he can punch her is more egregious characterization than Chichi's, but all of this was in service of a gag which is fine.
Similarly, Gohan was never forced to be a scholar, even as a kid he was polite, booksmart, and wants to be a scholar. Part of that is definitely because of Chichi instilling that drive into him, but what mother hasn't wanted her child to be well educated. And Gohan for his part never wants to fight actively, only because he has to, while helping others defending Earth, or in the case of the journey to Namek because he feels the responsibility to revive the lost Z fighters. Even Goku in the Cell arc says that he should defeat Cell so he can grow up and fulfill his wish to be a scholar. And even to End of Z, he has never shown that he was against this or forced into it or prefers fighting etc.
Still doesn't mean that she actually even looked like she gave a shit.
Chi-Chi was on Gohans ASS about being a scholar, doctor, lawyer or something from the moment he popped out. If I remember correctly, she even mentions 'it's not about what he wants'
Gohan never had a chance to become a fighter, never had a chance to train with Goku and build an enjoyment for the art. He was thrust into it, on a day that was supposed to be fun, meeting his father's friends. Then he nearly died time and time and time again, Reccoome full on crippling him. Watching people die over and over. An entire planet he eradicated with your father still on it. And this persisted until after her killed cell. So yeq, most people would absolutely despise violence in those circumstances. But Gohan has shown he does in fact, love to fight just like his dad does. Just not to that same extreme. (Usually)

The more I grow in age, the more I empathize with Chichi. Try viewing the series from her POV makes everything she does perfectly understandable. Hell, if anything I'd say she is still way more lenient than most parent would be if they were in her shoes.
about the kissing thing in super the particulare scene was a mistranslation where in the original it was suposed to be joke about vegeta thinking that goku does not know what a kiss is but goku is just confused about the way that trunks feeds mai the sensu bean
as much as I wish you were right, im like 90% sure your not, theres a popular fan comic that reinterprets the scene to be what your talking about, but in universe, they very much were implying goku doesn't know what a kiss is
I imagine chi chi doesn't ether tho

Note that Chichi is one of the few characters that can ride Kintoun, which denotes pure heart.
Her negative sides come from being overprotective with Gohan, and a little bit old-fashioned-countryside in mindset. Everything else points her towards being a likable wife who loves her husband. Considering everything that happens to Gohan in the Sayan saga, I can understand a mother reacting like that. I don't think that's the REAL Chichi, like this video perfectly explains.
I do think people over hate chi-chi. The only times we see her are when she's angry and yelling but later we finally get some reasonable character out of her. Toriyama is definitely at fault for that scene in the saiyan saga, it's soo unrealistic but my head Cannon was always that knowing her husband is dead she accepted that and couldn't comprehend him just coming back to life.😅
Toriyama's editor at the time was pushing him to have Goku hook up with Bulma. This was supposedly going to be the original endgame relationship. Though Toriyama had some spite over the same editor forcing a relationship he didn't want to do in Dr Slump; and out of anger and spite he said he already had planned for Goku to be with Chichi. In a cutting off your nose to spite your face move he stuck with it and viewed it as punishing himself. When you think about it Bulma would make more sense to worry about a childs education, than chichi who in the manga is a literal hillbilly hick.
It would be funny if u cover every single solution to the problem or every way the z fighter could beat everyone. Like learning Thunder shock suprise for raditz, drinking ultra Divine water and Time chamber before etc
i keep forgetting oolong is a kid who acting like an adult so whenever he crushes on younger girl i think hes being a creep.
his VA doesnt help him seem young though lol. in og dragonball he was younger than bulma and when you showed that 2:27 i got complete whiplash
Just found out that Oolong was 9 year old at the beginning of DB...
Muten Roshi got Puff Puff by... 9 year old piglet morphed into 16 years old girl.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS CREEPIER
gohan is 4 years old when Goku's brother kidnaps him, then Goku's enemy, the clone child of the demon king, kidnaps Gohan for a year. I find it incredibly unbelievable that Chi Chi would allow Gohan to fly into OUTER SPACE days after she gets him back. Pretty sure Gohan kills a few people on Namek.
Goku chooses not to return home for a year, and then the moment he gets back, tells Chi Chi he's going to TRAIN GOHAN TO FIGHT AGAINST KILLER ANDROIDS.
I seriously do not think Chi Chi is unreasonable, and it makes total sense that she becomes overly protective of her son.
And it also makes complete sense that she gets tired of Goku's bullshit. Wanting to be a fighter is fine - *choosing* to spend years away from your family to train is not. He's a shitty family man.
Honestly the least believable part of Chi Chi's character to me is her excitement to see Goku in the Boo arc. He's been dead for more years than he had lived at home with Chi Chi and Gohan, and he never bothered to use his access to King Kai to even say hello to his family. Goku is a major piece of shit tbh
goku is only gone for about 1 year after namek, he wouldnt have known how to pilot a course straight to earth, and by the time the dragon offered to teleport him back to earth, he was probably in the middle of learning how to teleport himself. people act like this is a smokeing gun to say gokus a bad dad, but its really not that unreasonable
1 year isn't that bad and in the end Instant Transmission was needed to save Piccolo and Tien from Cell, get Dende as the new Guardian and Stop Cell from blowing up the Earth so in the end you SHOULD turn a blind eye on that year of training because without his training on Yardrat Cell would have won.
Goku mainly trains because he wants to get stronger but also to keep his friends and family safe. He can't do that if he doesn't train
Based literate and non-reductionist Yurazah. Inshallah he surpasses 7,000 shortly.
The voice actor for Goku in the Latin American Spanish dub of the anime mentioned a couple years ago he'd enjoy seeing a Dragon Ball movie about the female characters. It's a nice sentiment, their treatment in the series to date has definitely been less than ideal.
I have tried to reconcile the Goku never kissed comment for almost a year (It is definitely not a mistranslation.) and the best I can come up with is that, while Chichi's peck on his cheek and the implied kiss after Goku gets better from the virus are both filler, you can still argue Chichi is just conservative with PDA and only kisses him in private. Secondly, a similarly gag was made when Krillin asks Goku if he even knew how babies are made when Gohan is first introduced to which he says ofc he does. But as we know he basically had 0 knowledge of other people when Bulma found him, so the only way he would learn how is from the time he and Krillin read out porno mags aloud as part of their "life training" under Roshi, and those are the only kinda kisses he is familiar with, and hence him being confused by Trunks' pressing lips with Mai, and from Vegeta's enquiry we see that he doesn't even see a correlation between kissing and marriage, which is an unsettling thought. I'm sure that you could convince DBS Goku to kiss Vegeta for a piece of bread, although Vegeta would be unwilling.
That last part made me laugh so hard
Glad to see some Chichi appreciation. As a kid she annoyed me, but as an adult I appreciate her as the GOAT wife she is - she cooks well, helped Gohan to pursue his academic dreams, trained goten and stayed loyal to Goku throughout all his deaths and resurrections. Probably not the best written character, i think Bulma is a way better written character, but the hate for her is too much.
I think fans take her too seriously. She’s mostly a gag character or at least most of her jokes are based on being unreasonable and or overbearing
In other words, her gag is being a tiger mom
Filler arc power level video when?
i need this
9:01 because puar is the GOAT
2:40 this is where Goku got the idea to test Rou Kaiohshin from
9:33 The thing is it's conformed that goku and chi chi kissed how because in the cell saga after goku woke up from the virus before he left he kissed her and master roshi was there he was trying to see them kiss that's just another db super L
Edit: that doesn't mean I don't like db super I actually love it I'm just saying
this kissing "joke" has so many twists and turns from translation errors to the original lines, I don't know what to make of it anymore
that was filler
I think that Chi-Chi's best moments are her and Videl just because they are both funny and realistic.
Great video!
When I was a kid, I started with a dub of the first thirteen episodes of the original Dragon Ball anime on VHS (the tapes were blue), so I had a strong connection to Yamcha and Chichi by the time Z started airing on TV.
At least Yamcha is cool in some of the video games 😭
Chichi isn't as lucky from what I can see so far.
The "Goku doesn't know what kissing is" bit occurs in both the Super anime and manga, so it was likely a joke Toriyama specifically requested to be included, so that's another example of Toriyama's sense of humor screwing with characters because he found it funny.
This thumbnail is very cute!
Thank u
8:30 I'm assuming she recognized that Goten isn't smart like Gohan, and there was no way she could make him a scholar.
You know… "Toriyama didn't know what to do with them" is pretty much the low-key motto of the late Mr. Toriyama. But, that's just my opinion.
Anyway, maintain that Chi-Chi's actions and reactions toward his husband is reasonable. It's only when he's completely out of his element or on death's door - if not dead - that she shows genuine concern. _Because, he's Goku!_ The invincible delinquent she married.
Also. I love how Chi-Chi doesn't know how to drive in the anime filler, but she's clearly the one driving that hover car after she's married, in the manga.
I disabled my adblocker for this vid, appreciate me. (pweez 🥺)
thk u
I think her greatest character assassination came at the removal of her bangs 😔
Can't disagree she was so pretty with them
she used to be so pretty
she had 2 kids and raised 3
this is mostly a z video, only super goku is a manchild. in the original manga, he was more of a functioning adult
Exactly in Z and the super manga Goku just acts like a normal adult I just dunno why the super anime made him act like a man child.
@@yurazah to be fair between super goku and z goku super is the only one with a job and is more of a functioning member of society
Regarding the kissing joke in super, my head cannon is that Goku is actively messing with Vegeta by acting dumb. A lot of Goku's dumb moments involve Vegeta almost having an aneurysm after all. He was shown to be training with King Kai at the beginning of battle of gods, so I think he's been training his comedy too.
Yeah, having met ChiChi in DB before DBZ really gives a more accurate perception of her portrayal. If your first impression of her comes from the saiyan saga, no wonder so many people hate her character.
Some part of me thinks that Yamcha regrets not accepting those advances back in the day, mostly because that one scene in GT where Chi-Chi and Bulma offer to swap husbands for a day and Yamcha volunteers to be a good substitute but then they say "We don't want a downgrade!".
Honestly , Goku is lucky that Chi-chi agreed to marry him at all
Goku , given the financial status between the two and how Chi-chi stayed loyal to Goku all this time and even defended Goku's honour when he was gone and kicked a teacher out of her house in the filler after he insulted Goku and assaulted Gohan
Now I think Goku was a hunter and a survivor while he might not have worked an 8 hours shift . He probably hunted his own food and got his own supplies from the woods, and some may argue that Goku might have run some errands for money for any locals or even sold the animals he hunted or the supplies he collected
It was recent when he started working as a farmer in Super
I don't even know what GT Goku was doing for living between the Baby Saga and Super 17 Saga
I never really minded Chi Chi and just liek you my school also had the DBZ manga in it's library. That's how I first got into it after watching through OG DB. Strange how both GT and Super have so little of Chi Chi in the series. I think Chi Chi's treatment towards Gohan is more like your first child, you worry about everything that could go wrong and end up being a bit overprotective but by the time you have your second child, that being Goten, you lighten up as you've learned a lot more about raising a child and you aren't as restrictive. Goten even acts more like Goku too as he's far less formal and more free spirited. She even trains Goten likely because she knows that sayians love to fight
Pretty sure Toriyama came up with the Kissing joke, not the Super Anime Writers.
YOU HAD THE ENTIRETY OF DBZ IN YOUR SCHOOL??!!
To be fair with Chichi. She marry someone with a tail and knew he was from outer space. She probably had to have known there marriage would’ve been interesting to say the least. I always thought she was a pretty good character for most of the series too. It made her more relatable that she eased up won her parenting for Goten and being cautious with Videl
She didn't knew he was from outer space. That was in the saiyan saga.
@ when Master Roshi told him about when Grandpa Gohan found him in a round pod. I thought a least some of the group knew Goku was an alien
About that scene in dbs about the kissing.
I've heard that goku was actually refering to the mouth feeding, not lip on lip.
You almost disappointed me with the first half but yes thank you for actually going through the series properly and establishing that she's a good character, people who hate on here have always confused me
This seems a rather reasonable video
I think how people see Chichi is why people hate Gohan just being a family man. He's lame because Chichi "forced" Gohan to be a nerd. The Son family needs more respect from the fans
Great content, as always! I need some advice: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
Toriyama himself stated that he doesn’t like Chi-Chi, hence her character.
And in Super she reverted back to that early Z behavior with only a couple of moments when she’s not obnoxious as exceptions.
The very reason Toriyama even put those two together is to force himself to draw her as a sort of punishment.
It’s really unfortunate, because Chi-Chi could have been better or Toriyama could have simply chosen another girl ( Bulma was right there too, but there was also Suno. Or simply wait until later and use that as a character growth arc for Goku )
Why would Goku fall for the girl that shot him when they first met and tried to take away his beloved 4 star dragon ball? lmao
@
Because by the time of the 23rd Budokai, they’ve come a long shot since then.
Not to mention, Bulma wasn’t the only option I proposed.
She should of kept the suit that shoots lazers.
I mean, she was literally raised as a princess...
The never kissing was a dubism from people that didn't get the joke. GOKU DIDN'T VIEW TRUNKS AS BABY BIRDING A SENSU AS A KISS. That was the joke. He never chewed up and spit something into someone else's mouth and he's too pure to even see it as Trunks doing it to steal a kiss.
Goku does know what kissing likes he has kissed both her sets of lips afterall. The problem with super is that it wasnt specific and people took that statement at face value, yes, goku knows what kissing is but what he does not know is feeding others while kissing which trunks does to mai and vegeta mistook it for him not knowing it. Funnily enough, this is a joke in japanese culture too
The only real problem with chichi is that she keeps trying to have a normal life (at least by traditional Japanese standards) with someone like Goku, who’s the polar opposite of that.
What does that have to do with 0:36?
From a Polish perspective, she's just a regular mom/wife lol. Stereotypical even. A caricatural stereotype of course, lol so I never saw her the way English speaking internet seems to.
1:50 to clarify, Yamcha is infact a not based and a cringe individual.
I've heard someone say that the not kissing joke in Super makes more sense in Japanese. Goku and Chichi are shown as a conservative Japanese couple and Goku is being weirded out by public kissing. Vegeta misinterpret this.
I don't think people hate Chichi for being a good mother, more that she's not ride or die like Android 18 and that lack of synergy with Goku contributes to him being so absentee.
It's kinda not goku's fault (at least in z) That super vilians keep atacking earth.
In kinda agree but i do think Chi Chi should be more concideret of Goku and her insane obsession with making Gohan study all the time is also kinda wierd (tho she does calm down later in the show)
@@Ninja-3040-Q Goku was oblivious to Chi-Chi's feelings during most of DB and didn't even recognized her when they reunited at the last martial arts tournament
Stupid super Goku gets a lot less unbearable if you just pretend he's faking being stupid to fuck with people.
Why would Toriyama give young Chichi that outfit if she’s a minor? That’s a little weird.
atleast yamchas not a lolicon
Oh boy, if you knew all the things that happens with minors on the original dragon ball.
I think part of the joke is that Ox King is also extremely out of touch and just dresses his daughter in a smaller version of however his wife used to dress. She's either implied or stated to be long gone by the time Goku and Chichi meet.
They also get magazines from somewhere so maybe they just think that's normal everyday women's fashion.
Funny. He married krillin to 18 despite the fact that marriage was never set up.
And no, that kiss on the cheek does not count as a setup.
I mean she did say see you later after krillin used a wish to take out the bombs in her to feel more secure implying they will see each other through the 7 years and he was the only only one to go save her after cell vomiting her out despite being the weak one and he destroyed the remote that could kill her after knowing that she killed him in the future so I would say that It was planned

I fr blame DBZ abridged for a lot of the misremembering of DBZ. Love dbza but it is like the root of so much of DBZ misconceptions.
i personally never watched abridged and while i do think ti scewed a lot of peoples persception of dragonball in general, chichi is one of those cases where her nice moments are too far and few between. the nicest momens are usually in non canon movies or filler episodes.
and every time the plot gets relevant she is just yelling and being unreasonable.
I disagree. dbza actually helped me sympathise with chichi alot more than I did
Hating Chichi is stupid and misogynistic.
Why?
She's a mother whose husband is regularly either dead or in the process of dying again.
She had him dead and her 4 year old son kidnapped by his arch enemy.
After not seeing your little kid for a year, how do you think you'd feel or act?
After said kid almost died.
On top of that allegoricaly speaking: Chichi is married to a very powerful man, he can and does literally do what he wants, always and she doesn't have a say in it.
And when she at least wants to protect her son and keep him from pursuing the same often destructive path his father is on, she is hated on and Goku literally sends her flying once ...
Sure that was a mistake, you could say he pulled a Johnny Depp on her ... yet he wasn't even drunk.
Now this is of course a series about buff men and aliens punching each other, which is fine.
But in such a world, where women have basically no agency whatsoever, since the men hold all the power, and they only serve as utility to the men (bulma through her inventions and her technical know how, Chichi through her reproductive labour and 18 as a prop for cell to become stronger), when a woman tries to enforce her own will upon this world even a little bit, she gets all the hate from a mostly male audience.
It's a trope as old as ancient greek.
Literally.
Socrates wife became the annoying, nagging wife poster child.
But in reality during that time women were viewed as 2nd class humans, they were not allowed to vote and Xantiphe surely wasn't able to survive by herself.
She definitely had a lot to complain about.
So ask yourselves, is that representation in media just a fluke, or does it say something about our real world, that we treat women like Chichi so poorly?
Perhaps she is insufferable, but perhaps if you take a minute to emphasize with her position, you'd see why and wouldn't be so mad that she isn't just providing unconditional love and assistance to Goku.
I want to have a baby with chichi
>_>
Nah she don’t want u lil bro, 💀

Chi Chi was a better fit for Vegeta considering her temperament (plus Karma would punish him with a wife like that). I never really grew fond of her all that much in anything beyond Dragon Ball. However, you're correct, she fits fine, she's well designed and motherly, which is rare these days, so, I respect Tori's creation nonetheless.
