WILLIAM CHAN it’s not the same vibrato that you can get on a fretless instrument, thoufh
@@DragonWinter36 yes, a fretless vibrato affects pitch, while with a fret the vibrato will change mostly the volume. Probably some small pitch waving might occur due to affecting the string tension, but nothing like fretless.

Cello.
I've never played a fretless guitar, but I suspect that it has significantly less sustain than a fretted guitar. The vibrations get dampened by your fingertips instead of being anchored to a nice hard fret.
This beautiful man was my professor for theory for a year🙏 One of my favorite professors and an extremely talented musician. Much love🤝
Where did he teach? Where did you go?
Gotta be honest. I was expecting to cringe. This sounds far better to me than an electric fretless. Gotta be super skilled to stay enough in pitch that you don’t send folks running to their cars. And my man here definitely is skilled enough. Impressed
Feels like a much more eastern feel to the sound without frets
A lot of eastern music uses tuning systems other than our own 12 tone equal tempered system, so notes you would hear on a fretless instrument would be in between two regular notes (halfway between E and F for example) but normal in other cultures.
@@austindolan3142 so... its just an e sharp

this is wht it feels like to play the oud.. it gives u perfect intonation coz wen u first play frestless it will be a nightmare where u will realise how much the smallest movement goes off - but then u start to play by ear and rele close your eyes and feel the sweet spot where the harmony makes sense to u - that little detail makes ur playing instantly 1000x times more unique because now you are microtuning your own taste and discovering a new level of depth in music you could of never found with pre-made dictated tones by frets

Jacob Anteau thanks for not leaving out viola👍. some people are just not aware of the whole string family. rip.
Went from cello to guitar and the hardest part was the different clefs and how the guitar is tuned in fourths. Frets made it infinitely easier
And Trombone
The guitar still has fret guides on the side at 0:51 .... so that's how he knows where to play :)
Or muscle memory and ear, as violin does not have markers and they still capable of playing
@@dmitrizaslavski8480 begginer violinist can use markers to show where to play too but I suppose he looks like he knows what he's doing x)
Have you seen a OUD before ? It's not magic what he does with this guitar... but it's still good
I think that’s mainly because it was just a modified guitar. If you look closely it also has faint indents on it where the frets were
I'm pretty sure at this skill level he doesn't need markers to know where to place his fingers. Besides, the marks are from the removed frets, they're not placed there deliberately.
The beginning sounds like bird calls. Beautiful
I've been a low vocal bass since I was 12. Bass is something very dear to me, and this song's light, delicate, warm bass brings me so much happiness.
The thing about this frettless guitar is the legatto sounds extremely creamy in tone. Lotta deepness and it sound darker. Such a beautiful sound out of a Classical Guitar

"It's amazing how well the guitar is suited for fretless playing."
Well, to be fair one should see if standard classical guitar repertoire can be realistically performed on fretless before coming to that conclusion.
Much of the advanced guitar repertoire, particularly harmonically dense work or highly contrapuntal texture, requires significant strength and extension in the left hand, often using fingers fretted behind the safety of a fret as a fulcrum and/or pivot. I struggle to see that being possible on fretless while still maintaining accurate intonation. Simple melodies and arpeggios with simple basses just don't convince.
Still, I'm open to being convinced otherwise.
Those slides just sound absolutely amazing
Beautiful phrasing, flawless intonation
