Featuring equipment they manufactured for either method of harvest including the model 303 sheller, models 301 and 321 corn pickers, and the new idea husker. Tractors shown are the J. I. Case 411? New Idea had some very clever engineers. I used several of their machines back in the day. It's always amazed me how some companies get swallowed up and the fine equipment they produced for decades just disappeared. Souldn't be that way.
I agree…New Idea had some great designs. Shame to see the legacies of these companies lost.
Ya, there is only one way to really prevent that, but people don't like the answer.
Interesting that after the great migration to shelled corn, that mixing some ear corn into the feed is still shown to be beneficial to the livestock.

Spent a lot of hours with the husking unit on a WD45. It was a bearcat to get the tractor ready and mount the PTO drive. That took a tractor and loader. After that, it wasn't too bad. Drive into the snapping unit, tighten the bolts, back up to the husking unit.

We had a neighbor who had the hulking unit with the rear castor wheels. It's the only one I ever saw in our area. He also lost his right hand in the gathering unit. Never slowed him down. His two sons and later his wife helped whenever he needed help. Sadly they both died of cancer within months of each other back about 1989.

But it's not the machine's fault...
Interesting they went with a rasp bar cylinder over a sheller cage. I couldn’t imagine running that setup in greasy conditions with that long tail hanging back there. Sure is a cool setup though. Especially that bin type sheller. Judging by steering wheel height the Oliver is a 1957 or very early 58 Super 77. Any older than that would have been a green wheel super.

Never knew they had a sheller with a grain tank on top. They sure weren’t far from making a self propelled.

An Oliver 77-88-770-880 and a New Idea mounted picker was as good as it got, with a Farmall 560 and 2MHD picker a close second.
The reason why my dad did not shell his corn was that he got a corn cob premium.
