I STILL can't believe how the developers were able to make the Aladdin game look so utterly amazing despite having a mere 16-bit console to work with. Absolutely astonishing.
No Contra, no Comix Zone, no Alien Soldier, no Toe Jam and Earl (the good one), no Gun Star Heroes, no Herzog Zwei, but there was room for goddamn Boogerman. Brilliant list.
Mega Drive to this day has the best gaming music sometimes I still go back to find these games to listen to the level music, especially Streets of Rage 2
A top 25 is a good idea because Top 10 is not enough for the Megadrive/Genesis (or Snes). So many great games! :) My top 25 personal favorites Megadrive/Genesis games: 25)- The Adventures of Batman & Robin 24)- Alien Soldier 23)- Gunstar Heroes 22)- Contra Hard Corps 21)- Aladdin 20)- Castlevania Bloodlines 19)- Thunder Force IV 18)- Shinobi III 17)- Sonic 2 16)- Batman 15)- Strider 14)- Streets of Rage 13)- Moonwalker 12)- Gaiares 11)- Castle of Illusion 10)- Alien Storm 09)- Musha Aleste 08)- Quackshot 07)- Ghouls'n Ghosts 06)- Golden Axe 05)- Devil Crash (Dragon's Fury) 04)- Shadow Dancer 03)- Streets of Rage 2 02)- Thunder Force III 01)- Sonic the Hedgehog Honorable mentions: Mercs, Comix Zone, Rolling Thunder 2, Golden Axe II, Gynoug & OutRun. No Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat II, NBA Jam, TMNT...cause I think that snes versions are better.
Very nice lost brings back many good memories, some of these I haven't played but a lot I have. Anyone remember super thunder blade? Columns? Altered beast?
Great list! It reminded me of my childhood. I remember Streets of Rage (all three), Super hang on, The revenge of shinobi, Strider, Golden ax and Sonic (all games) were the ones I played the most on the mega drive. I still played a lot also Altered beast, Kid chameleon, Phantasy star two, Out run, Contra hard corps and splatterhouse two.
My favourites are, streets of rage 2, golden axe, teenage mutant ninja turtles, Michael Jackson's moonwalker, NBA jam, ea/NHL hockey, pit fighter, terminator 2, final fight. The games back then was fantastic.
Wow. I look at the comments and almost everyone complains about not including some games on the list. I appreciate that you choose these games over some widely popular or technically superior games, it makes your list unique. There are hundreds of videos that list those games it's god to see some other opinions, like I didn't think I'll ever see Pit fighter on a list like this XD.
wow this brought back some great memories , loved desert strike and streets of rage and also loved the Rambo game, those of us who loved these games imagine if they did them the same with great new graphics thats all they have to change and people would buy it
Road Rash II was the best of the series in my opinion and I still play ir from time to time on my Genesis. I still have the one I bought in 1993 in perfect working condition. I also still play Super Hang ON, Eternal Champions, Streets of Rage and many others just to re-experience what made gaming great. Theme Park and Evander Holyfield Real Deal Boxing could've take the place of a clue of games that made the first list. Theme Park set the standard for management simsby being entertaining, challenging and extremely detailed. While I do enjoy a good number of modern games, I do feel that developers emphasize great graphics to overshadow shite games.
Finally someone who puts sonic 3 "and knuckles", above sonic 2. Sonic 3 & knuckles is one of the best sonic and best megadrive game ever. Aladdin should be higher for me and Robocop vs terminator lower and Quackshot should be on the list. Otherwise i kind of agree.
Good list but for me would also be in my list: - Gunstar Heroes - Toejam & Earl 1 - Comix Zone - X-men 2 clone wars - Quackshot - Bubsy 2 - Adventures of Batman & Robin - Ecco the dolphin - Mr. Nutz - Vectorman
Vector man 1 and 2, Shinobi 3, Shadow Dancer, landstalker, Beyond Oasis, Quack Shot, Sonic 2, Phantasy Stars, NHL and sports games, and lots of shooters... tho I was thinking it would be great if sega had a fighting game with their characters.. Sega def got the roster to have a dope fighting game..
"tho I was thinking it would be great if sega had a fighting game with their characters.. Sega def got the roster to have a dope fighting game.." Well, there's already Fighter Megamix on Saturn which does this but a new entry would be cool too!
King’s Bounty...Nice dude...I thought I was the only one who played that game:) If there was no this game, we would never have Heroes of Might and Magic 🤘🏻
An interesting list. We all have our own favourites missing from it, of course. I would urgently suggest Wonderboy in Monsterworld. Also, Speedball 2, Micro Machines 2, EA Hockey (and sequels), Jungle Strike, Sensible Soccer, PGA Tour Golf (and sequels), MERCS. And Ghouls and Ghosts.
Hugo Farias yes I agree, I have the megadrive II and I would never part with it as it brought me so much joy and was really special - still think it's special and no other console since compares to the 16bit generation! 😁👍
My favorite based on genre : Fighting : Yuu Yuu Hakusho Beat em up : Street of Rage 3 Racing : Road Rash 3 Shooting : Contra Hard Corps Puzzle : Columns Sport : International Superstar Soccer Deluxe Platformer : I'm not a fan of this genre, but if I have to pick it is Wani Wani World. Simulation : Theme Park
Greatest console I ever owned. Having a UK Mega Drive, I remember you could pick up Genesis games for much cheaper, plus they got released in the US before the UK. I still say the UK games had better covers and the US games had better manuals. I remember picking up many new Genesis releases for under £20, but would clock in at around £40 in the UK. Top 3 games had to be ESWAT, Sonic and Streets of Rage. The 16bit era was the best era by far for gaming. Have to mention Quackshot, World of Illusion, Tazmania, ESWAT, Moonwalker and FIFA. The Mega Drive trampled with SNES for Disney and EA Sports games.
MrStrikecentral Even though it's an all time classic, it was more of a love it or hate it kind of game when it first came out. I believe the game is much more highly praised now than it was when it was brand new on the shelves.
Kings bounty was underrated they should have continued this game. when i think of the old games i always remember that one I bought it for like 2 bucks back in the day
Not a bad list at all! Mine might look something like this in no particular order: Top 25 Genesis games: Starflight Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Comix Zone Kid Chameleon Castle of Illusion X-Men 2 Clone Wars Shining Force II Ristar Shinobi III Streets of Rage 2 Pirates Gold Aladdin Tiny Toons Busters Hidden Treasure Herzog Zwei Castlevania Bloodlines Landstalker Sonic 3 + Knuckles locked on Boogerman Beyond Oasis Phantasy Star IV Sonic the Hedgehog Golden Axe Taz Mania World of Illusion Gargoyles
5.52 if you timed hitting them again with the axe shaft just as they were about to get up, you could do that until they died from it. :D I remember drinking beers and playing Kings Bounty all night, completing the game from start to finish, with a friend.
Glad to see shining force games in these lists. Many will say phantasy star games are better, but for me shining force 2 was top notch. Would have liked to see kid chameleon and comix zone instead of some of the listed titles, but you got some great games there.
I appreciate it's your personal list. But.... you missed a load of classics. Gunstar heroes. Contra hard corps. Castlevania bloodlines. Comix zone. Mortal kombat 1. TMNT. Decent list tho.
Just simply wasn't enough room for those games to be included sadly. I dropped Mortal Kombat 1 as i wanted to stick to one game per franchise and MK2 is the far better game in the 16-bit series.
drunkensailor112 I agree Mortal Kombat 2 wasn't anywhere near as good a port as Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 was on Mega Drive but because it's one of the best fighting games of all time and the gameplay and most the content was still there I still think it deserved to finish above UMK3. The main reason it was a bad port was because Probe software who developed it ported around 10 different version of MK2 on different platforms plus a few other games as they liked to develop 20 games at a time and spread themselves too thin and often rushed them out the door. They also appeared to have problems with compression as the few voice clips that where included where of a much higher quality and sample rate than the SNES version had they been as good compression techniques as Sculptured Software it could have had all the voice clips included if was even worse in MK1 as that had even less voice samples. Probe did drop this during the 32-bit era and only developed 1 or 2 games at once producing some of the best ports of the era resulting in Acclaim being so impressed that they purchased them but it would not end well for Probe as a few years later Acclaim went bankrupt taking Probe down with them.
Absolutely. Too many horrible american crap and No jewels like treasure Games Thunder force IV WonderBoy 5 Magical Tauruto kun Yu Yu Hakusho Ranger X Batman and Robin Batman 1 Samurai Showdown...
Missing many classics, shooters are also absent. But very happy to see Revenge and Shinobi, Super Hang On, Shining Force and SOR2 in first place though. I would recommend...Ristar, Alien Solder, Dynamite Headdy, Shinobi 3, Beyond Oasis, Gunstar Hereos, Castle BL, Rocket Knight Adv, Adventures of Bat&R, Musha, Thunder Force series, Fire Shark, Twinkle Tale, Phantasy Star IV, Comix Zone, Alisia Dragoon, Ghouls & Ghosts, Contra HC, Monster World IV, there are alot of great Gen/MD games.
Amazing list. Amazing system. Polygons are nice..but there's just something about sprites that I love. My honorable mentions. Splatterhouse 2 and 3 Pirates Gold Dragons Fury Seperation Anxiety It's impossible to do a top 25 list. There's just too many great games and it's a matter of preference too.
An odd one that's on my list is Zero Tolerance. I like how Dune was on your list. Good games for a laugh were Mutant League Football/Hockey. True Lies was fun. We all have our memories of the 16bit era and unlike today not every game was at your finger tips. You were lucky to get 2 games a year otherwise you would rent one on the weekend from the video store.
Street Fighter special champions editions,Ristars,trouble shooter,terminator 2 the arcade game,Splatherhouse,Virtua Racing,Ranger X, Biohazard battle,internacional superstar soccer Deluxe
Never been a fan of Sonic Spinball personally. For me the best pinball game on the Mega Drive is Psycho Pinball by Codemasters. So addictive! Great tables, great bonus stages and loved racking up the big scores.
1. Sonic 2 2. Streets of Rage 2 3. Gunstar Heroes 4. Sonic 3 & Knuckles 5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist 6. Shinobi III 7. Strider 8. Alien Soldier 9. Sonic the Hedgehog 10.Altered Beast 11.Aladdin 12.Ristar 13.Streets of Rage 14.The Lion King 15.Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine 16.Tecmo Super Bowl 17.Golden Axe 3 18.Beyond Oasis 19.ESWAT 20.Alien Storm 21.Sonic 3D Blast 22.Streets of Rage 3 23.Lemmings 24.Bonanza Bros. 25.Taz-Mania Some notes: As of right now, I have yet to play any of the most notable titles from Konami or EA outside of Hyperstone Heist. And I haven't played much in the way of fighting games yet, either. In fact, if you're wondering why a game hadn't made it on the list, chances are, I haven't played it yet. I do own both Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection and the Sega Genesis Classics collection, so games like Phantasy Star, Sword of Vermillion, and Shining Force are still on the docket in case I ever have the time to play them. Also, I have played and beaten both Comix Zone and the Vectorman games. I thought they were merely okay. And ToeJam & Earl simply confused me; I really don't get the appeal of this game. I'm also not the biggest fan of the Golden Axe series of games, although I consider the third entry to be the best of the bunch.
Have multiple games on this list. The nastolgic memories of gaming and my childhood com rushing back. In my opinion Streets of Rage 2 belongs innthe #1 spot. Demolition Man was the best movie game tranisition in my opinion. I wish Sonic CD made it to the list though. Too bad Ecco the Dolphin didnt make it to the list though.
I STILL can't believe how the developers were able to make the Aladdin game look so utterly amazing despite having a mere 16-bit console to work with. Absolutely astonishing.
I don't get why people love Aladin games, they're just tie in movie game which is crappy and it's not even revolutionary gameplay wise
@@doburu4835 el stupido
Man, Aladdin was such a pleasure to play with.
No Contra, no Comix Zone, no Alien Soldier, no Toe Jam and Earl (the good one), no Gun Star Heroes, no Herzog Zwei, but there was room for goddamn Boogerman. Brilliant list.
No Thunder Force 4 and Phantasy Star 2🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️...Herzog Zwei was also just a Masterpiece!
Pelo menos nas menções honrosas poderiam ter colocado jogos como:
Pulseman
Ristar
Flink
Eternal Champions ou
Splatter House 3
No Megaman: the Willy wars
No Rock'n'Roll Racing
No Quackshot starring Donald Duck
Yup. And I was never a fan of Super Hangon.
Contra and Comix Zone should be on this list, also Phantasy Star.
Surprised Herzog Zwei (greatest 16-bit game ever made) wasn't on this list after Dune was included.
Nothing beats the sound of the MegaDrive chipset. Just so... MegaDrive, love it.
From what I see and hear, Super Nintendo can be better some times. But overall, Mega Drive all the way.
Dgpcc it ya
Mega Drive to this day has the best gaming music sometimes I still go back to find these games to listen to the level music, especially Streets of Rage 2
sound-wise, snes is better
@@toparky2470many say the mega drives sound is better. Most people do. Just saying tho. Overall snes won the console battle.
The nostalgia... ow man... Number one...Streets of rage! You´re goddamn rght! Thank you!
Good list, but Quackshot definitely belongs up there!
Just beat Quackshot after playing first 30 years ago

Dick Tracy is always missing from these line ups. I have no idea why. It was by far my favourite mega drive game.
Actually I played it the other day for the first time and thought it was great, Tommy gun mechanic rocks.
I didn't even know there was a Dick Tracy game for Genesis! I'm going to have to check that out!

But...
Why does Sonic Spinball get no love???🤨
Never been a fan of Sonic Spinball personally. For me the best pinball game on the Mega Drive is Psycho Pinball by Codemasters. So addictive! Great tables, great bonus stages and loved racking up the big scores.
My top 5: 5 Earth worm Jim 1and 2, 4 Sonic 1,2 and 3d, 3 Golden axe 1 and 2, 2 Street of Rage 1 and 2, top 1 is the Shinobi 1 and 3!

Some notes: As of right now, I have yet to play any of the most notable titles from Konami or EA outside of Hyperstone Heist.
I'm also not the biggest fan of the Golden Axe series of games, although I consider the third entry to be the best of the bunch.
where the hell is Sonic the Hedgehog? Best game on Mega drive
I miss Landstalker and Ecco The Dolphin.
Maui mallard, tiny toons, quackshot maybe for part 2
Have multiple games on this list. The nastolgic memories of gaming and my childhood com rushing back. In my opinion Streets of Rage 2 belongs innthe #1 spot. Demolition Man was the best movie game tranisition in my opinion. I wish Sonic CD made it to the list though. Too bad Ecco the Dolphin didnt make it to the list though.
