Hi, after making several flat caps from your video I have just made a sun visor for a neighbour- with modifications to attach a tulle vail ( she has a dog wash and needs to protect herself from dogs hair). It turned out great, i used blue denim and scraps of puppy quilting cotton to brighten it up. Vail is attached to the top, so she can lower it, when drying dogs, it worked great. I am very impressed with your patterns and kindness for sharing your experience and knowledge, thank you very much! I couldn't help myself and made one sun visor for myself too- have a lovely day
Thank you so much! I am struggling to find a visor with a built-in sweatband. Your pattern and instructions take the intimidation factor out of making one! I'll just add an extra layer of absorbent fabric and I'll be able to have as many visors as I can make! I'll even be able to easily embroider my company name on whatever portion I'd like! Thank you!
Thank you Marla! Try the technique I show in this second video ... finishes at the top which might be easier for adding promos to the band. ua-cam.com/video/cb6RV6Kz3Dg/v-deo.html
This is the Nearest and most beautiful visor I have ever seen Your work is very neat and professional. I definitely want to try it .am looking at Your Instructions over and over before I attempt it.Beautiful workmanship Thanks for sharing
Thanks you so much for such a lovely comment!! You can do this and make sure you watch the other video for the Sunvisor Headband ... might be an easier technique and it has a wider visor. ua-cam.com/video/cb6RV6Kz3Dg/v-deo.html
Just made one. I purchased your pattern off of Etsy. Perfect for my water aerobics class. I'm an experienced sewist so zipped through; love the elastic casing finish! Thank you!
PS measure your heads! I assumed I was a medium but it was too big--my head is 22". After making another visor in "small"---small fits so much better. Love it! 💜 🪡 🧵
I’m a quilter & bag maker and now trying my hand at hats! My friend for bag making is double sided tape. And after using it in a 2nd visor, it’s a game changer for the last seam. It holds it in place and allowed me to concentrate on not catching the underside of the band in the stitching. Ask me how I know 😂 I highly recommend until an expert like Tori!!
Thanks for watching! There is a second one now too! Different way to finish the top seam and it has a broader visor! ua-cam.com/video/cb6RV6Kz3Dg/v-deo.html
Just made my first one in a cute colorful die tye print (pink, blue, yellow, black and white). I'm going to try a reversible one as well as a mix and match with a print and solid colour like yours. Thanks again! Then I will try the updated version.
That is awesome!!! The updated version has a broader visor and I think it is easier to make with the bias along the top to finish the upper edge. Let me know how it goes for you!
thank you so much for such a detailed explanation and all the details - really appreciate it!!! - however please no music which is so distracting from your voice or at least make it a lot quieter !! thank you
Hi Pandora ..this was one of my first videos so I feel safe saying I really didn't know a lot about video making ...still don't buy trying hard to get better! Cheers, Tori
Hello. I went on the site for the pattern but it shows a different style. Your video shows pointed ends of the visor and the site to print shows straight ends. Would this work just the same? Great pattern and instructions!
Hi Elizabeth, thanks for reminding me I have to update the free version of this pattern. So many patterns, so little time! There are two videos for the sunvisor headband. There is a new one as well. The visor for the new one is on the menu of free downloads as New Sunvisor Headband Visor and it is squared at the top for the seams. Once you turn it right side out and do the finishing and attaching to the band, it is pretty much pointed at both ends but trim away any extra that is not on the outside of the finished visor. Menu of full free patterns is on this page. Click on the larger type name of the item to go to that file. madcaphats.com/pages/summary-sheets-for-youtube-videos-in-pdf-form
The new video is located here and it has a broader visor and what I think is an easier way to put it all together! ua-cam.com/video/cb6RV6Kz3Dg/v-deo.html
Great pattern, headband and instructions. I’m not clear about the seams. Should I add 1/4” seam to the measurements you have on the pattern? Thank you for sharing this.
I have included a seam of up to 3/8 inch on the measurements. If you feel you need a relaxed fit use a 1/4 inch seam but those measurements have that seam included! Let me know how you do! Tori xo
I wish you could show how to attach a bandana or scarf to this! Seen lots on pinterest etc but no instructions or pattern - anyone have any ideas? Many thanks.
Hi Maralyn ... I will do that in the a new video for the Sun Visor in the new year. That is a great idea to add some covering to the top of the head. We used to make a bandana visor back in the day with a full summer craft show schedule. Originally it was made in the kid's size only but I will search through my bags to try to find the pattern and update it. Cheers, Tori
How do you measure the head to fit properly? For both short hair (man) or Long Hair (girl) ? I saw how you measured for headband. Is this the same? 90% of circumference?
The Sun Visor is different because it has 4 inches of elastic (10 cm) to add to the length of the band. Medium, average woman is 19.5 inches (49.5 cm)for the fabric piece. The Small, the elastic stays the same size but the fabric piece drops an inch to 18.5 inches (47 cm) and the Large the fabric piece increased to 20.5 (52.5 cm). The head size for small is based on total circumference of 21.5 inches (54.5-55 cm) and the head size for large is based on average man's head circumference of 23.5 inches or 60 cm. The full sewing pattern, available on our website for a nominal fee (there is a link in the description) has the graded visors and bands for the three sizes. IF the man has a larger head, add more to the length to the headband part of the pattern and if the girl has a smaller head make the headband a bit smaller in each direction than small and perhaps make the elastic length shorter as well. I hope that helps! Tori
I don't have a resource list but I go over fabrics and interfacings or foam choices for the visor throughout the video. This was one of my first videos on UA-cam by the way. There is a second video for the Sun Visor with a wider visor and slightly different assembly of the pieces. Give it a watch and maybe more inspiration will result! Try one with what you have on hand! I will add the link here later this morning for that second video. Just travelling right now! Cheers, Tori
lol ... alas, can't do that with my early videos ... I have music turned down on the ones made from Dec 2022 forward but that was one of the early vids!! Still learning, hope to have time soon to learn some more. Thanks for watching Teresa! I think the subtitles are good on this video if you want to go that route!
I will probably redo this video as it was one of my first ones!! You can turn off the volume and turn on subtitles if that helps!! Thanks for watching, Tori
@@madcaphats Thank you for your reply. Please redo this video it is an awesome video, without the music. I will try the subtitles but I am 70 years old and dyslexic the reason I do Ytube videos to watch. I am a visual learner. And it takes me too long to try to read subtitles I have to keep pausing the video and it just does not work for me.

Love this - I didn't catch anywhere that you indicate the length of the elastic - 4 inches or so?
Jeanne, yes 4 inches ... a tad bigger is better then a tad shy of 4". Sorry about that! Thanks for asking.
