I think Wisconsin men were the exception to the rule of having to "get out." They were 27th at 1K, and still only 10th at 5K, but then finished on the podium in 4th. There is just no replacement for running smart, knowing what you're capable of, knowing your body and running by feel. It's such a momentum boost to be passing people throughout the race, and they showed what you can do when you run the first 8K with your head, and the last 2K with your heart.
I really hope Coach Ed recruits Clinger, Nokes, Bons, to the US Marathon team to join Mantz and Young. US would be contending for the podium in LA 2028.

Biggest losers were the fans watching the women’s race on ESPNU where the broadcast lost connection and cut to commercial as the race was finishing.
