Seriously Thanks guys! I watched 15 videos and was like WTF “almost Re-enlisted into the Marine corp” but (cooler heads prevailed) after watching your video I am 100% sure I am not going to loose a eyeball or my kids view of me and my ability to build a kart that financially is becoming a burden but your videos have helped curb some cost! You have my support and please now your videos are what has taken a Infantry Marine and helped build skills I would not of had if you never put online! Great camera angles as well!
I bought a 420 for my Murray Kilowatt and getting the stage 1 kit. This is the best video I have found to prep my engine. Nice work .. Thanks for the help.
Within the first minute and a half you answered a question that's been bothering me for months! Got my first two mini bikes (and another one) in the past few months and the second one, is actually being built not bought but all three are getting upgrades and governor removals but the engine I have (Duromax 212 Electric start) had that WEIRD F****** BOX! Blocking me from mounting the engine for ONE (Mega Max 212 frame) AND I'm new to dealing with engines/small engines etc but know a bit about how mechanics work. Didn't know if this was like an O2 sensor or really what it did, couldn't find information. THANK YOU! Made me actually want to keep watching AND you put links for the TAP SIZES for the holes hardly ANYONE ever mentions! Edit: This was a very good video bro. You mention hella shit most people forget noobs don't know.
Easiest governor gear removal is a pry bar under the gear pops it all out doesn’t brake or damage anything and can easily be reinstalled if you wanna try for warranty replacement
@@TyranisCustoms yeah everything comes out one piece to reinstall take the center piece out of the gear leave the little lock ring in the gear then use center pin and lock ring pushes right back into place
Hi I need some help gentlemen your video has inspired me to go out and get a 420 cc engine and build it to put on my new minibike. I’m having an issue with the oil fill tap 7/18-20 and I tap hole first time doing this kind of stuff however when I go to put the bolt in 718 half-inch bolt it’s really loose fitting but it kind of grabs on but then once it goes all the way in and I think it’s about to get all the way tight it doesn’t. It just gets really loose at the point it’s supposed to be tight. ?v
We wont be exceeding 5500 rpm or really holding peak rpm that long anyways in our apllication so we'll be fine with the stock flywheel. Past that though you're better off going billet💥
Can't wait to see the 420 in that yerf dog I have the exact same I wanna see it rip and how it does because I was thinking of doing the same swap but with a duromax xp18 there the same engine block and same parts. But more hp and way more torque.
How Do you keep the kart from Rolling away when you start it. I have a 40 series torque converter. But I can't start it without the kart taking off....
I saw your other comment first. Your idle may also be too high, or you need to upgrade to lighter rollers and heavier springs! The video I linked should help.
I left the stock valve springs to govern the engine by valve float while we run stock internals😅. I would absolutely remove the arm. It's easy and would otherwise come in contact with the crank.
I don’t understand how the crank would contact the goveror rod? It’s in a certain position at let’s say idle then moves around when the motor needs more power or the engine tries to over rev.
I have a Predator 8750 gennie with what I believe is a hemi 420cc. Where can I go for parts for this thing? All I can find is non-hemi for this model number genie
This was pre-GPS sponorship haha www.bmikarts.com/Performance-Stage-1-Kit-for-Predator-301cc-420cc-Honda-GX340390_p_31516.html Go power sports have great options too but just not the foam pre-cleaner
Everything was perfect except your throttle setup. You mounted the linkage too far out on the arm. The farther out you go the less throw you have. I don't think you are going to have enough pedal travel. I usually use that extra swiveling cable connector thing to hold my linkage. I just drill a new hole for it. That way I can adjust it without having to re-bend the linkage. Also get a heavy return spring or two or you will be in the news again!
I realized that after the fact. I was prioritizing the most linear simple motion for the linkage but its not worth it to give up the travel. And like we said, that sketchy spring was just for demonstration purposes. I'm good on limelight for a while 😅😂 Good lookin out!
My method is to leave the stock valve springs installed. The stock valve springs are fairly weak and wont allow the engine to accelerate past around 5000rpm (this is partially to do with the weight of our karts, a lighter kart might let the same engine rev to 6k) At that point the springs can no longer recoil fast enough to keep up with the speed of the valves/cam, thus letting air escape through the poorly positioned valves and the engine begins to lose compression and stutters and bounces off that RPM like a rev limiter. This is called floating the valves. Its not great to keep in the throttle and let them float indefinitely, but its a nice easy way to know you're not gonna over rev. Also make sure you always have some kind of load on your engine when running it. If you throw a chain, shut it down asap. Resist the urge to rev haha. Hope that helps!
@@TyranisCustoms Thank you, I just purchased a 420 for my go kart and it always bogs down and stales when I push the gas down, I thought it might have something to do with the governor.
I need to do this same exact job but I'm not going to take the oil sensor out. I just need to get the governor out. And I'm gonna get the mikuni carburetor kit for it which is supposed to be good for 23-25hp.
Will it start? Can you keep it running by adding throttle? Sounds like your new carb needs to be tuned. I kept the stock carb and had to bring the idle up quite a bit after I removed the governor. The better you can describe what its doing the better I can try and help!
People say you can on some engines, I always take out everything I can so nothing ever ends up kicking around the engine that wasn't at least making me power in the first place haha
Hey Will! I hadn't really considered selling built engines. We are out of CT so locally wouldn't be a problem but I have a feeling shipping would be too expensive to make sense. You can email me at TYRANISCustoms@gmail.com if you want though and we can try and work something out! Thanks!

There are pipe taps you can use with an allen NPT plug. That tall stand can be cut down also, more refined look.
If you haven’t I’d love to see you guys do something with the 670cc big boy. Keep up the good work.

When I see right, it’s possible to let the oilsensor in the case by only cutting the cable off the oilsensor from the outside and it‘s still running?

Thanks for your response.
But whats the max rpm an is there any power gain from removing the governor?

Hey good video, I was wondering what size bolts you used.
To close the holes after we tapped them you mean?
@@TyranisCustoms yeah what size to fill the holes you tapped
what about the counter balance? does it have marks for timing as well?
Instead of the camshaft coming out my balancer shaft fell out you have a video on reinstalling the balancer
I personally haven't had that issue (yet) but I'm sure someone on UA-cam has!
So leaving the stock springs qill keep the flywheel from exploding?
Don't quote me on that but yes. The stock valve springs limit engine rpm to around 4-5k. 6k rpm and up I start thinking about the flywheel.
Do we have to remove the governor arm or can we leave it there? And the valve springs are stock right?

How do you limit an un-governed predator to a safe max RPM, and What is considered a "safe" max RPM for an otherwise stock engine?
My method is to leave the stock valve springs installed. The stock valve springs are fairly weak and wont allow the engine to accelerate past around 5000rpm (this is partially to do with the weight of our karts, a lighter kart might let the same engine rev to 6k) At that point the springs can no longer recoil fast enough to keep up with the speed of the valves/cam, thus letting air escape through the poorly positioned valves and the engine begins to lose compression and stutters and bounces off that RPM like a rev limiter. Probably! But it's not a huge hassle and the less stuff that doesn't need to be there the better I say haha

Nope! We ran Big Bob's with the governor for months. When you take it out, you can rev higher and easier essentially
