    Great looking camp and camp fire. The weather is so beautiful looking. I've forgotten what blue skies and sunshine looks like. Well into our 3rd week in a row of rain, ,drizzle, fog and heavy rains. I'm starting to rust!

    Great hiking trails and nice camping site. Glad the hurricane damage wasn’t much. Beautiful to see the sun waking up the forest zone. 😊

      Not alot of damage in this section but the southern section is closed because of all the damage. Thanks for stopping by!

    There looks like there are so many great camping spots in that area. I enjoyed the overlook and seeing those beautiful horses. You could really see how many fallen trees they had to cut from the hurricane damage. I hope they continue to open more of the area again.

      Yeah,there are a lot of great places to camp around Mt. Rogers. Hopefully it won't take until October of next year to get most of it reopened. Thank you for your support!

    Hi Jim.
    VERY much enjoyed this two part series on your hike.
    As always, appreciate how you gave us excellent views into the beauty of the areas around your route.
    I loved your campsite: Open area, near water and views.
    Liked the way you showed us the views in two time periods - nicely done.
    Glad to see they are working on the horse trail.
    From what I've seen on your fine videos, the combination of the AT and horse trail would make for an excellent loop hike regardless of distance chosen.
    Thank you Friend, for providing us with such peaceful and informational hiking videos.
    God Bless!

      Hello my friend,as always I appreciate your kind comments. I hope to go into some other areas very soon to see what condition those trails are in. Yes you can make a decent loop combining the AT and the horse trail. Thanks again my friend!

    One beauty of a morning! Quite an open area to camp...I can imagine it getting pretty windy there given the right conditions. Some pretty great views and all looks so different with the leaves down...sort of what our area looks like at the moment...we've bee having nonstop winds for going on almost 2 week now. Those were great days for sure and always makes them even better to share with a friend. Hope your weekend is mighty fine!

      It's a great place to camp and it did get a touch windy in the middle of the night but not too bad. Wow,2weeks of wind is pretty crazy! It is nice to have Delmar to hike with these last 15 years for sure. Thanks my friend! You have a great weekend as well.

    I think we camped where you camped, back in May. Is there a bear box up there? Beautiful camp and views! There is something just so magical about this area. I love it there. Gorgeous morning views too! Cute ponies! Great trip and video! 😃💚👊

    Fun to see the ponies by your camp spot! Pretty cool night- hope you stayed warm... lots of frost in the morning! The day might have been chilly, but it was nice to see some sunshine. Looks like the forest and the trail where you were wasn't too damaged. We've had quite a bit of rain here, but just clouds today, lol. See ya!!

    • @JimHayesHiking
      @JimHayesHiking  8 днів тому +1

      Yeah it got down to 27 degrees. The AT didn't get as much damage as the horse trail did as you saw. Thanks Jen!

      @ It’s really cool that the 3 trails join up there! I haven’t been out in our forests much recently- I’m guessing it’s super muddy. I hope the trails over there don’t get more damage over this winter. 👌

    • @JimHayesHiking
      @JimHayesHiking  8 днів тому +1

      @@JenniferLupine yeah,the NRA has over 100 trails in it and I still have no idea how many are closed at this time.

    • @JenniferLupine
      @JenniferLupine 8 днів тому

      @@JimHayesHiking Do they have paid trail crews or will volunteers hike and clean-up? We have a combination of agencies and volunteers here in WA. Hopefully it’s mostly clean-up and not a lot of re-building. But if there were landslides and washouts I can see it taking lots of time to work on the trails. 👌

    • @JimHayesHiking
      @JimHayesHiking  8 днів тому +1

      @@JenniferLupine mostly volunteers for the Appalachian Trail and the US Forest Service will do most of the work on all other trails. The Virginia Creeper trails' upper section is totally destroyed and if they do decide to rebuild it it will take a few years as it has about 42 trestles on it and about half have been washed away.

    Pretty up there... I would not mind camping there myself. I agree on breaking camp... The set up is always more fun. Breaking camp seems like work... 🙄 Good that the storm did not do a bunch of damage, at least there.

      It's actually only a 2, 21/2 mile in from the State Park although we came in from the opposite direction which is 5 miles in. They just opened all the high country trails yesterday. Thanks Max!
