Like Boys in the Hood, Menace II Society and other movies like that a lot uptight older White men don’t watch stuff like that even though it’s those guys jobs to watch those movies to be able to see what deserves nods. But movies like Bad Boys that was Directed by Michael Bay or other Black movies that have a higher budget and a more known director get more recognition, and respect. Mekhi has been in a lot of higher budget movies but majority of the movies he’s been in that were higher budget he wasn’t the main character. Hell, in some of the roles he was barely a supporting cast member. But he was amazing in Paid in Full I legit think he was the best actor in the movie especially the part when he was talking about his little brother missing. The part where he was like “Anybody that owes me money, anybody that ever looked at me the wrong way” or something like that I’m paraphrasing. And in “O” he did an amazing job as well if I remember correctly. But to be honest I didn’t like that movie it was kinda too sad and depressing for me lol. But still a great movie if I remember correctly.
Mekhi Phifer isn’t a WAS. Nothing happened to him. He has NYC grit in him; which enables him to ride the high low waves of life and keep progressing. It’s always been refreshing and exciting to see him embody all the character roles he’s played and are playing. He’s not among the forgotten because he’s still relevant. I’m literally just coming off of a Mekhi Phifer movies binge. 🥰 He’s a dynamic actor who popped early and sort of quietly fizzled out in this new era. I’m not sure why. Maybe he’s just not all that pressed. Who knows? I wonder if his film career would’ve had a better trajectory if he had skipped ER and done film exclusively. At that time tv actors typically pursued movie careers, not the other way around as it is now. But I’m not mad at him for wanting a steady, somewhat guaranteed paycheck then.

I thought it was interesting that Mekhi’s child’s mother Malinda Williams acted as Bird in the series Soul Food, and Mekhi as Lem in the movie! I loved both the movie and the series.
Watched the work of this young man, and he brought heart to every day at work. And I can say: "Jr. Bunk/Jr. Bunk/Jr. Bunk" and smile cos of what he brought to "Homicide: Life On The Street" that no one saw coming.

Damn good actor he's a living legend. And when he was younger he always favored DMX to me. Him and DMX have similar features and facial expressions. He could've play a younger DMX in a Bio pic but he's alot older now.

I thought it was interesting that Mekhi’s child’s mother Malinda Williams acted as Bird in the series Soul Food, and Mekhi as Lem in the movie! I loved both the movie and the series.
