Βέβαια αν συγκρίνεις με τα νέα ελληνικά, βέβαια η προφορά είναι πολύ μακρυά από το τέλειο
It's not about being smart or not. Some people's brains just don't do math or science, but instead they're really good in languages, literature or/and history. And then there're those people who're terrible at those things, but are math/science genius.

I’ve been studying ancient greek (at my Dutch grammar school I guess?) for almost 4 years now and I am so lost😂 I just cannot comprehend, I think my only motivation to keep going is this man
It's not so strange in Europe if someone speaks Greek. (I almost had the opportunity to learn Greek , so...). The same thing about speaking English, German, French, Dutch (a little less, but still), Greek (as I said before), Latin and Spanish. Those are the languages I believe are taught the most in schools in Western Europe. Well, if anyone can name another very common language (in Western Europe) that I forgot, just drop your comment below ;-)

Γι' αυτό είπε ότι δεν είναι τόσο παράξενο που ήξερε ελληνικα. Εκεί πήγαινε το common όχι στη γλωσσα
I'm really glad that he picked up an interest in Ancient Greek but I think it should be normalised in academia and in general that a) Greek as a word corresonds to modern Greek, if you wanna say Ancient Greek say just that and b) the erasmian pronounciation is disputed and Greek is definitely not spoken like that, even Ancient Greek from our tutors in schools. Who are Greek and academics both. Just saying.

Ancient Greek has a different accent from modern greek. His accent and spelling are just fine. Respectfully, a greek person (για να μη μου λες ότι λέω ό,τι μου κατέβει)

Δεν εχουμε παραμορφωσεις οπως στα αγγλικα. Το ιδιο συμβαινει και στα αρχαια αλλα οι τονισμοι που υπαρχουν εκει κανουν τη διαφορα. Οι τονισμοι μοιαζουν με τον τροπο που μιλανε οι κυπριοι.

He's not talking Greek actually, it's ancient Greek, much more difficult. He actually acquires the ancient accent.
Not surprised he can speak Greek since he read it at Cambridge. Tom is super smart (though he has said elsewhere that he isn't good at math)!

What I meant to say was that greek and Latin are sometimes taught in schools. And it was probably a poor choice of words. But why are you mad?
