A great module with a nice price... Maybe one of the future friends of my Neutron and my B2600 ? ;)
@@symbiat0, in the description : 149 USD.
Its 150 bucks.. but i see what youre saying on availability
This post pinned by Behringer themselves......pathetic.
Probably. I don't know if Mutable Instruments still makes all of their software open source, but back when I bought several Shruthi-1s that's how it was. And the whole point was so that other companies and people could use it.
@@orangenotviolet how?
Ace. I want 16 of them (I'm not kidding either) with a 16 part step or realtime sequencing. every "engine" sounded great too. Great demo Dan, rogx
I want 19 of them
So it's MU's Plaits? Looks and sounds good though, screen is nice too
Right!! Reading the comments waiting for someone to say this.
At least they mention the origin of the algorithms on the website. But even the controls are the same like Plaits.
Meh. The blue lantern plaits clone is where it’s at.
@@effiksmusic well they have to mention them for legal reasons :D
No, percussion models are in green and the others in red... in plaits is the opposite. :D
Always love the comment section on a new Behringer release. Either pure love or hatred.
And some douche’s observation about it
Oi, Behringer!! Give this thing an input for the oscilloscope. Would be the cherry on the cake. Great bonus feature. Missed tricked without it. Get rid of the Behringer logo to the right of the display, move it down to the bottom next to the name, put the input for the scope there ;-) Invoice is in the post :D Your welcome ;)
Well done Behringer!!!👏👏👏
Thank you for the support! ❤️
@@behringer goes both ways....
Will buy this module, love the sounds, will go well in my modular rig.
this is gonna be great with Pam's random sequences
isn't this pretty much exactly Plaits??
Seems so. I guess I can't complain about a built-in oscilloscope, but it still seems wider than plaits.
@@robertsyrett1992 And USB is cool.
@@MatthewHyatt I definitely am not against it, but I wonder how practical it would be to have multiple modules connected via USB.
I wish more module makers and case makers would consider internal connections more. I made my own custom cases and it’s so beneficial to route certain stuff from rear. Usb would be especially good for this because no matter what, it won’t gather a crapload of interference inside a case. Only if there’s dirty emi ridden power coming in at the source.
Hello Behringer. Can I ask why you didn’t include the inharmonic string modeling mode from Mutable Instruments Plaits in Brains?
It is an especially cool mode because it offers 3 voices of polyphony in contast to all the others modes which are monophonic. Future update perhaps?
Ok, now behringer is just going mental. I never forget my first behringer mixer back in the early 2000s. I cannot believe how far they have come! I guess, they wouldnt be here if it werent for people like me, and that is mildly satisfying...lol for real tho, i am likimg the goods. Have also been buying a bit from u guys recently.
Can we use midi CC's to control the BX7 parameters ? And if yes, which one are supported ? (Freq, Ratio, Detune, etc...)
That is one rad little unit!
Wow!!
What is the output of brains going into? which mixer or interface I mean and which processing was used on it in the demo?
Yeah, baby! :D So you can modulate the model with CV. Time for one oscillator music challenge! :D
Behringer makes me think of getting into hardware land for a while now, and the pressure just keeps rising.
I wonder what Behringer DAW and VST will be like.
Will the DAW be built around their own hardware in mind too?
Lots of interesting possibilities, keep them coming!
Just got a Neutron this week. My first step into modular synth. This will be one of my next buys!
Great choice , you don' need another if you learn to use it well
@@cnfuzz Yeah, the Neutron is mad. :)
I have a crave and a model D - would this be any good to modulate the inputs on these synths?
No. Better get something more of a CV tool like a double looping envelope or oscillators that can go into LFO territory
Incredible price!!!!!
It has an OLED. It has a USB jack upfront. Behringer could cook up some alternative firmwares for this thing. The sky's the limit. It's a digital module. The face-plate is nearly symmetrical left to right. You'd just need a couple of extra holes drilled in the face-plate to be drilled for the USB and FM attenuverter. You could cover the two extra holes in the face-plate with plastic caps. Now you can have an alternative face-plate that's double-sided (layouts for two alternative firmwares). Sell blank plates. Sell pre-printed ones. Etc. I'm not sure what the memory space is like. But there's lots of common stuff that could be between all of the inputs and the outputs.
Plus... "hacking BRAINS" sounds kind of cool.
Thanks for semi-openly acknowledging its roots as the Mutable Instruments Plaits on your website!
Are you planning on contributing some code back upstream? That would be awesome!
Some code? Do you have any proof there was code used from Plaits? Do you think the concept of this module is unique to the guy at MU? You can't be serious.
@@TotallyNuss www.gearnews.com/behringer-brains-multi-engine-eurorack-oscillator/
@@TotallyNuss Check the facts please before accusing someone of jumping to conclusions.
As I said, Behringer acknowledge using 15 algorithms from Plaits on their website and even link to MI's github repo.
Also I guess Emilie would appreciate being referred to as 'the gal at MI' :)
@@TotallyNuss 🤣
Sounds a lot like my MikroFreak. Probably because they share a common ancestry...
I was just thinking it seemed like a CV-able pod of a MicroFreak
My thoughts exactly.
I can't wait for it to be available in Mexico
... a must have for me. :-)
Also any idea when the 182 seq will be restocked everywhere?
ist nur der Sequenzer "schief" gestimmt oder warum sind viele Tonsprünge nicht musikalisch sauber?
thank *YOU*
Is there a way to use something like this without patching it into a whole Eurorack setup? I currently have a Crave, so I would like to get this and use Crave’s CV outs to control it, but I currently can’t afford getting a whole powered Eurorack case and all that. (I would like to get into Eurorack, but while I’m still in school it’s just not feasible.)
Edit: Is this just missing power? Can I get this, put it into a box I make, and add power and that’s all I need to get going?
Hi Zachary - Here is a video that should cover exactly what you're trying to achieve :-) Hope this helps! - Dan ua-cam.com/video/VA-An6GbbCk/v-deo.html
Get a 4ms Pod20. It's small and powered, leaving you just enough room for an arpeggiator or a mixer or maybe that erica synths DSP.
When will be available on stores? 🦙☕🎹
This is a must for my studio ❤️ is the USB only firmware or midi trig too 🤔
Once again Behringer are smashing it in 2021…. I’d hate to be their competitors 😂
yeah, id hate to be their competitor too, becaue their competitors have had this very same module on the market for literal years
@@felixs6795 not at that price though 😉
@@dalejason right, some of them even still undercut behringer. dont really see your point
@@felixs6795who sells cheaper?
Speech was great - Can you do words with it? Its got a very Kraftwerk sound too!
Very cool. Great price.
Already have a Microfreak!
Dear Behringer people! When are you going to release the 1027 and 1050 modules?
is there a release date for this one yet?
Can the display be used to browse the web?
Is the USB port only for firmware updates or will we be able to use MIDI over USB from a DAW or controller to play this?
THAT would be cool. Course, if not, then you could use a midi to CV conversion module or an audio interface with DC coupled outputs ... .
@@TheSwircle987 Yeah, it’s just that that USB port is begging to be used for more than just firmware updates. Plus, it would save room and $$$ from having to buy another module. Here’s hoping!
@@phillystax very true, and it would be that much easier, too.
The visual queues on this module are awesome. So many synths/modules rely on memorization, led blinks, and plain guesswork. Sometimes simplicity is nice :)
For some of them we even have to rely on our ears! ;)
@@bojangprodoktschns5428 I prefer to tune my modular gear by taste. Come on Behringer, make it happen!
Please please please make a keyboard for eurorack modules like the Waldorf KB37. The Waldorf is discontinued and there’s nothing on the market like it.
How do I upload words for the "speech" function?
5:56 Aphex Twin - Bucephalus Bouncing Ball
Any idea on an eta? End of year?
Also thank you for the screen and front end usb access. With all the direct MI clones out there, it's nice to see one that switches it up and offers something different
Already plan on putting 2 in right next to my 2500's and 100 modules from Behri. Can't wait to run these through the Grone Drone and Clouds. Now if only I can get a System 100 sequencer that they always use in videos in America.....Been waiting for months for them to go on sale here.
Great idea... Could the USB port get some sort of secret poly/paraphonic midi mode? wink wink...
THIS^^^^
That would be siiick!!
Is this released yet?
Can you use this with the Wasp?
Im not too familiar with modular synthesis, can i just use this (brains) with a midi keyboard or do i still need a euro rack?
You'll need a Eurorack case with a power supply. What midi keyboard do you have? Does it have CV/gate outputs at all, or just midi on it own?
@@newenglisharchitecture1012 oh i see, just midi on its own. Thank you for the reply!🙏
wow...don't know how you guys are doing what you're doing...but, dang. I'll take 2.
This is really good, well done.
Whats the USB for? Can we load our own Wavetables? I'm more of an analog OSC (and everything else) guy but this might be useful and at this price point, why not.
@@aggon5927 They just mention the Firmware updates... Midi would be awesome.
So its the lovechild of Braids and Plaits...........

It’s a plaits you wanker
Cool! Makes me want to go full modular :D
I like it. Got similar vibe to the MicroFreak.
Hahaha. Thought the same thing. Was making want to fire up the MF when I get home.
Because the Microfreak is basically a Plaits with a built in keyboard controller and access to a few additional parameters. Brain is basically just a Plaits, but with 5 more oscillators. It's no secret either, the Plaits is open source, and both companies mention directly on their product paiges that the core engine comes from Plaits.
Yeah was just thinking that but its a shame that the MF doesn't have a input in to run stuff thru it ... Even the korg monologue has one ..
Can we get a behringer Omnichord clone? The demand for working ones are going through the roof but it surely can't be that hard to recreate, maybe with midi and separate drum out?
💯

How bout you announce my set of drum mics that have been back-ordered for like 6 months?
I’m afraid I need this 🧠
Pls make SP1200 sampler
Looks a lot like a Mutable Instruments Plaits to me.
When can we buy it?
No Brainer for that price!
Any plans for a standalone case for it for those not wishing to go fully down the eurorack rabbithole?
You could call it "The BRAINS Box".. :)
You would also want an Envelope, VCA, filter, headphone out, line out, Midi in, etc right?
Just get an Arturia Microfreak. This Behringer is a Mutable Instruments Plaits clone and the same algorhythms are in the MicroFreak. That thing also has a really powerful modulation matrix, so you can get some modular style crazyness going but without patching cables. And it's paraphonic (4 voices iirc).
@@symbiat0 That price being why I wondered if Behringer were going to do one. If it came down to it I'd just bang one together from some MDF, but an official one would obviously be nicer.

Heya! Great demo! There's just one thing ... You should have pronounced it like "Braaains!" :D At least when I saw the announcement the first thing that came into my mind was, how cool it would be if the reviewers and guys making demos would say it out loud like a stereotypical zombie. :D
Now that would be a GREAT idea for a future video! 😂
Can the oscilloscope be fed with external signals?
I was thinking the same thing …
And we thought we were going to get their first DAW. But this is cool. So now I just need to get a Eurorack case.
Why you don't do it as standalone device or midi compatible?
Oh I am sure they will but I paid only $250 for a MicroFreak which is also just a tweaked use of MI Plaits code. Well that a whole lot more.
$149? But... how?!
Like most braids and plaits clones, it’s not such a crazy low price

Don't make me buy Eurorack! If I was young and had years to tinker I would.
Do it! If you were young you wouldn't have the money to tinker
I appreciate this model a lot. A lot of people actually verge on or imo cross over the original mutable instruments licensing guidelines.
Behringer actually took this open source module and added to it in a nice way. I imagine this is more what the creator intended by open sourcing her modules. Not carbon copy clones advertised as 1:1 copies of her work.
