The steam deck opened the gate for Linux for more support by a big company
no, it didn't. still no AMD drivers for other linux distros. It's exclusive for the steamdeck os. Chimera stole the driver. I don't think that it's 100% legal. it's more like hackintosh or something.
@@TT-pi8ww oh? Thats new to me. I thought AMD helps with the opensource drivers a Lot so it can be part of any distro Out of the box?
Facts
What are you on about, AMD linux drivers are open source, in fact AMD themselves are big contributors
@@TT-pi8wwlol wut? About a month ago I put together a computer for my buddy to replace his first gen Ryzen box he had been using. We got an AMD GPU instead of Nvidia specifically for compatibility reasons. Not only is there a working driver, but it installs itself when you install Ubuntu. Absolutely zero configuration.
Could you send me some of that good shit you're smoking?
I just wanna say I appreciate you ETA PRIME for always testing Steam Os, Chimera Os, Linux. Not many UA-camrs are out there testing linux gaming on newer hardware. Thank You
"THAT" looks and feels like a TRUE GAMING OS ... now i know what I'm going to choose next ;)
Good coverage of Linux gaming. Thanks ETA.
Nice! I'm building a small Linux PC in the coming week so this gives me a good idea of what to expect with gaming.
Typing a little fast there ETA... Got yourself a Radeonb with some super GRRD memory.
Wow, those specs have a myriad of typos.
I love your PC bulids!
That AI voice over will DEFINITELY expand one's audience.
I'm glad to see the Linux gaming screen growing. I myself was a die hard windows user, but not anymore. My next gaming laptop and desktop will be Linux based.
I also recently switched to Linux and was and still am surprised how well my games work. Started as an experiment but I don't think I'll be going back to Windows.
Yeah I felt that way back in the windows 95 days lol
@@V1CT1MIZEDamen😅
thanks for the video eta you just showed me my next gaming rig
And since nobody will dare saying anything negative about Ngreedia, the reason why he needs to use an AMD GPU in Linux is because Ngreedia hates open source and refuse to release proper open source drivers.
AMD on the other hand, works with the open source community and releases their drivers properly and that's why they get my money.
Whoa this thing looks like a monster... I might just get a similar setup with a less powerful GPU since I don't need the crazy 140+ fps just want some 1440p 60hz gaming.
Only cost the price of 4 steam decks
Great a SFF PC video!! I still wonder how much it performs better under W11!!
Love the cry emoji face on the steam deck from the video thumbnail 🎉
Have you tought about trying the latest Bazzite Steam Deck edition? Just did on my couch gaming pc. Much closer to SteamOS about how it's used and configured. Great support too.
Oh! And personnally I prefer to stick with stock Proton whenever I can. I keep GE for edge cases. Have you tried Experimental, with Helldivers II?
Thanks for your awesome videos!
awesome, I wanted to see 7900 GRE under gaming under Linux was looking all over youtube was mostly windows stuff
I really like to see a comparison with this build on windows and the same games.
You should revisit the Lenovo Legion Go running Bszzite Linux. It's fuily supported and everything works now. I shrunk my Windows partition and run Bazzite as my main OS now.
That ad software really turned him from ETA Prime to ETA Primo
@ETA PRIME do you have plans to do another video on the onexgpu? I have a Legion Go and recently bought a Onexgpu. I would like to see the preformance of those together.
One thing i realise are common across the internet is that many content creator are dyslexic, even news writers but they usually use autocorrect and triple check, the good ones at least.
This is great 👍
This is cool!
Great video👍 If tests were re-run with only 4 cores and 8 threads (like Stream Deck) and manually disabling 12c and 24t of 7945HX, then we'd see impact from stepping up L3 to 64MB; Valve has stated that Steam Deck's APU is "like Ryzen 3000," which had 4MB of L3 cache in the Ryzen 3000 mobile and desktop parts with integrated graphics. I would guess that well more than 50% of the uplift in performance is from the increase in cache, and not from adding more cores and threads. Indeed, there are colossal differences in GPUs, too. Kindest regards, friends and neighbours.
oohhh, scratches my Linux itch sooo goood🤤🤤
I need to build a console like this
Hi ETA, what's the performance difference between steam os and windows with your rig? Thanks.
Well, I don’t exactly know if you can bring that with you on a car trip or put it in a small carry case. Although the performance is pretty good.
I think bazzite os is probably my favorite linux os since it's basically set and forget and has Nvidia support with a bunch of helpful tutorials and optional programs out of the box.
I kinda like what you are showing, but is it possible to run Lutris aswell as the Steam Deck Interface? would like to see both on one system. To be specific, would like to have this interface but running Minecraft Java (modded), World of Warcraft and League of legends on it with an wireless mouse and keyboard
Hey I know you review more emulators and pc’s but would you ever consider review the oneplus open?
Can you wake the system with a Bluetooth controller? I know decky has a mod for this but I'm curious if it works on chimeraOS or custom builds properly
Still waiting for the sink showcase.
please do a ChimeroOS powered Minisforum HX100g too
Hi, hope you have noticed that someone with the name: Unbroken Software LLC, is reposting your videos. Thanks for great videos. Greetings from Finland🎉
Great. More things that I want but don't need 😂.
do you know if steam link vr streaming works with any of the steam os distros? really the only thing holding me back from switching
Look, I want to start by saying that yes this is really cool, but I do see a few problems personally... The main one is when I think of small form factor PC I don't expect such big performance, something reasonably priced (not a lowball or something that won't get the job done, rather something right in the middle). For example at the end of 2022 I updated the other half of my system (already had a case, psu, ssd, hdd, 32gb ram) to the Ryzen 5 5600 and the AMD 6700XT, and that alone cost me just a bit over 900$CAD. I can run about 80% minimum of games on Steam at 1080p@120fps with the highest setting ; also some games at 4k@30-50fps. With that said, unfortunetly the video description links dont work for me (probably cause I live in Canada 😂), but I can only imagine the price of this PC you built... It just seems to me that if you want a small gain in performance it's not worth it for the price. I may be partial because for me anything at 1080p with a minimum of 60fps is fully playable, but... I just don't see the price justification.
Good Pc...nice and fast...
ETA primer I would like to know the Lenovo Legion go is great for retro games
Could you try Anno 1404? I spend so much time on full AMD old system to get working but there was only black screen!
The GRE is such a good card. I just wish it was $100 cheaper
What’s the cost of the build?
Could you review the rog phone 6 7 8 and the legion phones, no one does a review as good as you thanks!
This setup should run some no so graphics heavy games in 4K 60, like Elden Ring.
How much did it cost to build it yourself?
One extremely annoying problem I had playing with ChimeraOS on PC is when you sleep the machine while a game is on and wake it up, the game runs at like 5fps. You have to shut down the game and restart it for performance to get back to normal. I wonder if they fixed that.
I feel this, together with the lack of a way to turn on the machine from cold with a controller, is the main reason which prevents me from using it as a console.
hello I was inspired by your configuration
BD790i + AMD RX 7900 GRE GPU.
But the system does not recognize the GPU, it is impossible to connect it either to HDMI or DP. I will need help
The miniPC alone costs most than the Steam Deck. I don't see how this is "small". How much did everything cost?
Forget it, it's ETA. They do most stupid comparisons
That's definitely a small PC. Haven't you seen regular sized gaming pc's? He's not talking about price, he's talking about size dimensions.
Mobo/CPU combo was about £550-600.
RAM was another £75.
GPU is about £550.
Case is probably about £150.
SFX PSU about £100.
Fan (the Mobo/CPU doesn't come with one) is about £25.
So (without motherboard, keyboard or mouse) it's about £1500 or so.
But "small" is to do with the size.
@@checkedshorts I agree and I think this is especially stupid, any pc with a dedicated GPU would make the steamdeck "jealous" in some ways, but not in others. I don't really see the point of even mentioning the steamdeck in this video
@@labasdavid Because this channel only shows devices and PCs we can't afford. He never go with the budget ones, only the expensives to make us jealous.
does DCS run oninux well or, at all? Thanks!
I want something like this. A steam deck comparable spec PC to use as a TV set top box (basically steam machine). Heck I’ll build it myself with used eBay parts if similarly priced to $350. How much did this cost you and is there a shopping list?
This steam machine styled pc is a becoming a missed opportunity for valve. The problem last time was too many options from different manufactures.
I’m glad you mentioned this, truly was a missed opportunity.
Bro this is going to cost wayyyyy more than tree fiddy. The 7900GRE alone MSRP is $550, and that minisforum board is $519+shipping. After you add case, ram, ssd, fan, psu, etc. you're going to be looking at over $1500 easily.
@h3eZe the version used here is the most expensive 7900GRE. it costs 650€ alone here in germany. A complete PC build costs around 1800€. Still cheaper than a build with an I9 and a 4080 Super or a mac studio 😂
Search for "developing for steam deck without a dev-kit".
It will appear on Valve official documentation an almost similar spec steam deck.
It was a minisforum at that time.
You could test your game before hardware was released.
Why couldn't Minisforum put USB 4.0 on these boards? Seems a bit of an oversight and this is a deal breaker, have to choose the UM780 XTX for that and it has Oculink.
It has a full-fledged PCIe slot.
W8 a sec... did i see call of duty at @5:50 isnt this thing not available on linux?? Am i missing something..i heard u need wine for that thing
Is the mouse disabled in this os while using steam?
Isn’t that the steel legend 7900gre?
What's the difference between Chimera OS, Bazzite OS and Holo ISO?
How about HighEnd Emulation. PS4 maybe? I've seen FPPS4 emulator review on "Modern Vintage Gamer" channel.
Why are you still using ChimeraOS and not a SteamDeck OS like Bazzite?
I use Bazzite on my Steam Deck. It’s great, definitely has a lot more included and out of the box as opposed to SteamOS or Chimera.
@@aaroneldrethwhat exactly?
Bazzite or Chimera OS?
Thank you
But can i use this case and gpu/psu as thunderbolt gaming machine with legion go? Without the mobo and cpu
Hello, About the Add,( Mexican here) ... in the second 3:06 you never mentioned "Cursos" /Curses , you did mention Cores, so the AI tool is not that Amazing. by the way amazing Build I want to use ChimeraOS on a Desktop as main console.
strange to hear eta in mexican, I want to hear now in castilian spanish
Super tempting motherboard, but why the hell haven't they included any SATA connectors? 🙄😢
What if you did all of this with 7800x3d and 7900xtx?
How does ChimeraOS handle Radeon Drivers and updates?
It's not like windows, you don't have to mess with the drivers.
If only Steam Deck had feelings and that PC was portable
Steam deck os image has been released; it is available to dowload and install
Yeah if you needed to reimage your deck :)
Go Linux, Go Go 🐧
biggest hurdle for mass linux adoption on the desktop is the linux community itself.
Why? Do they gatekeep?
7900GRE is the first good price/performance RDNA3 card. It'll even raytrace almost as good as a base 4070
Not on linux it won't. My 7900XTX has significantly worse RT performance under linux vs windows.
@@V1CT1MIZEDTry the latest kernel. Ubuntu 24.04 beta is giving my RX6400 more fps on linux than windows.
RT is a meme on an RX6400, but in raw relative performance there is a difference.
After all the cost I would buy a deck
s300 vs velka 7?
Not sure what I'm doing wrong but in chimeraOS with a 7900xtx at 4k, FH5 doesn't go higher than 110 fps.
Are you using proton experimental ?
@@aaronramirez3163 funny you ask, I switched to proton 9 beta and that fixed the problem.
ETAPRIME, I just read Nintendo is going after people who use emulators to play nintendo games, so watch out. Thanks for showing Chimera OS with 7900GRE.... I just have a 7800xt myself, but usually just use Win11 for now and want to know a decent Linux OS for gaming...thanks
Those temps 🔥🔥🔥
Maybe compare chimera os and bazzite os
good video as always when you talk about linux. problem is the tittle... compare a fulldesktop pc (even if is a small form factor) vs a handheld pc is just stupid and I think you know and I also think you know that doing that you will receive a lot of complaints in the comment
Dat AI Spec List
Yes there is big different when compare a orange to a watermelon 🍉
Please use Nvidia gpu for another video linux gaming
Great video. The only comment I'll make is you drive like my wife.
Will Windows ever get this "Steam Deck OS" like experience? 🤔
If they don't run try a different emulator
😁😁😁👍👍👍
That's a misleading title. What about cost and portability!
Let us see and hear the Spanish video 🥺
I like your videos, but I hate how you (almost) always gloss over the price of stuff or don't even mention them.
I did a quick research and looks like it's ~1620$ all together. No wonder your Steam Deck is jealous!
So of course it can perform well, that's already a hefty sum (PCpartpicker list is BsGR6D + 520$ for the minisfoum)
For that amount of money I'd definitely go for a different CPU and mobo...
I wonder if this guy talks like this around the table with his family
Too bad ChimOS doesn't support nvidia cards.
"Im jealous", that's what Steam Deck said.
🤣 Still trying to work out how I can play handheld with that SFF PC 😂
After having a Steam Deck for the past two months I can honestly say that I'm done with Windows. Linux is so much better
It's a million miles away from a Steam deck, so not quite the right comparison.
I hope you guys realize, that steam deck is not a desktop. Just sayin
Day 78 of asking for a PC for my college.
lol eta you sounded weird speaking spanish 🤣🤣
but you know, you could make a second youtube channel in that language i bet that you will attract more viewers since not everyone can understand or speak english
Unless valve releases official steamOS for pcs, they are gonna lose the race …
any steam specific downstream patches and updates make thier way upstream to arch linux. so its dosent matter on linux PC with radeon gpu. nvidia stuff is limited and at the mercy of their driver team.
1st
Steam deck is portable.
You ever left the house and felt the need to start gaming
