Great reviews Norman. Just got my Ohh La La album out which has a sale sticker of 60p UK. Always a fan of early Rod Stewart LPS and remember seeing Ronnie Lane in the first incarnation of Slim Chance in Cheltenham, England in 1974. Ronnie being a favourite ever since. Keep up your good work. Cheers
Rod Stewart doesn't even come close to the recognition He should get. One of the Greatest and Unique voices that has ever been. He doesn't get talked about enough in The V.C. The Man can sing the phone book for God sakes. Awesome Video!
Hey Mazz - I have ordered the Faces but not yet the Television. I did get Marquee Moon which has been a favorite for years. I’ve enjoyed all of the RHiFi reissues that I’ve purchased so perhaps I should just pull the trigger on Adventure. Hm. Great review per usual - I always enjoy your perspective. Keep ‘em coming.
Listened to Adventure last night. After 30 seconds I turned up the bass on "Glory." Yes, tinny, but that helped the track a bit. I had a hard time warming up to this album after the ecstasy of their first album. I enjoyed it more when listening to this cut than I ever have before.
Even though these aren't as audiophile sounding recordings as other audiophile records, it's good to see records which aren't the usual suspects get the "treatment" by Rhino. They give them the best chance to sound as good as they can with good remastering and nice quiet pressings. Who needs another version of Kind Of Blue?
Even though the cut/fold cover DIDN'T make the reissue release, Rhino DID feel the need to print "To move face, squeeze top of album down" on the top front. HA! Great album, great reissue, great review!
I, too, particularly like the Ronnie Lane tracks by The Faces. I also like his solo work with his Slim Chance band, and his collaboration with Pete Townsend (Rough Mix). I don’t own Oo La La and am on the fence with the Rhino HiFi release. In Canada it runs $80+ CDN with taxes and shipping from Warner Canada. No savings to order from US with exchange, shipping and likely duties at the border. Btw, I really re-engaged with The Faces after watching that great scene from Daisy Jones & The Six where they spontaneously break out into Ooo La La, not unlike the tour bus/Tiny Dancer scene in Almost Famous. I’m happy with my CDN OG of Adventure. I like the Rhino HiFi release of Marquee Moon. Cheers!
Rod and The Faces don't get the credit they deserve. Of course, Rod brought a lot of the disdain on himself but those early 70's band and solo albums are sublime The people in the forums dismissing this need a smack around the ears
@@MickSuppermaybe its just in the UK but he came in for a lot of criticism by a section of his fan base and in the music press after his move ti America. He was considered a sell-out as he abandoned the folk rock style of his early albums and became more "produced" and commercial
I've owned Adventure since release, and simply love it. My copy of this new pressing is somewhere like 5000 miles away at the moment, so I've not spun it. I did want to say though, it's amazing how your mind plays tricks on you. I bought the last reissue just the heck of it, and you comments about it being "tinny" are spot on. I'd go a step further though and say - this album has never sounded great production wise. The quality of the music and performances outweigh any flaws, but the reality - listening today - is that it's never sounded great, and certainly not audiophile level. Oh, finally, thank you for mentioning you got them for free. Honesty and transparency are important, and I appreciate it.
@@mazzysmusic I guess there is an argument that could be made that suggests albums that weren't recorded in an audiophile way, benefit the most from being treated with due respect. Sure it may never become a demo title, but extracting the very most from the recording becomes essential. Increasingly on net integrity becomes important. I think transparency is very important. I'm not accusing you of anything, just pointing out that some of us care about such things. It's not simply whether you got it for free or not, but whether you reveal it. IMO YMMV.
“Shiny”….that would be great word to describe what Brendan O’Brien did to Springsteen’s “Magic.” When I hear stuff like this it makes me wonder if people have long-term hearing damage and don’t realize it.
Rhino vinyl themselves are great no complaints the jackets (all of them) aggravating to say the least not speaking on these records because I didn’t buy, hopefully they solve it
Yeah , maybe the inner shouldn’t be so tight, but I like to keep my vinyl in an inner and outside the sleeve… a more annoying concern is that the cover only fits in a box set sleeve, why such an oversized cover???
Just admit it Mazzy. They gave you that free Television record back in ‘78 because they wanted you to give this new pressing 47 years later on UA-cam. You’ll be hearing from the label soon.
The Kevin Gray cut in the Faces boxset has the original die-cut cover and period labels. Why can't Rhino do the same? No idea if they are different sound wise, as I won't be buying the new one.
@@georgepblair haven’t heard that boxed version but these are new and different cuts. The HiFi series consistently uses Stoughton like gatefold covers and doesn’t attempt to recreate specialty designs like with Ooh La La or LA Woman. Obviously for those replicas, seek out originals or other versions.

Adventure is definitely better-produced than the first album.
Recently I was listening to Rosalie Cunningham and was thinking of you Mazzy, maybe you are well aware of her but haven't seen you mention her and I do manage to catch most of your videos. Wasn't into The Faces or Small Faces, just another commercial band. (only my opinion) Television was different. I always enjoyed Marquee Moon and Adventure. Never gave much thought to buying this new version. I've listened to Television enough over the past 40 some years to last a lifetime.

I just listened to both of these today for the first time because they delivered this morning. Both sound good. I’m pretty happy with them.
"The Dream's Dream": my favorite Television song.

Right on! Thank you, man!!
Just ordered both of these last night. Already have the original press of Television but surprisingly don’t have that Faces record.
Adventure is one album that needs a special deluxe edition. Even an expanded version would be a start.
I'm excited to get Ooh La La in the next couple of days, as it will be my first copy of it. Take care.
Thanks for the review/comparison Mazzy!

As a Rod Stewart fan, I'd have all of the Faces records and the first four of Stewart's solo records.

It’s a cool record. I always mention the records that I get as promos. It should matter, but I’ll give my opinion either way if I buy it or not.

Even a “smidge” over the OG promo is good 👍 . Adventure is a slow burner, but what a great album. Thanks for the review Mazzy.

Good review Mazz , when are you showing the new Ringo album ?

Stewart had 3-4 great solo LPs and then the music got diluted.
