The voice actor put honest work into those lines, even when most folks wouldn't understand them. I gotta give him points... oh, it's the show's creator. Even better.
I always found it hilarious that the weirdos weren't even a threat. Reversed Guy actually liked him, but Mung Daal was an idiot and murdered his can. For once, Mung was actually in the wrong here
Recent thoughts have emerged of making a followup called "Official Backwards English Dub" (was kinda hoping to locate some fanart of this character for a thumbnail tbh)
What's so weird about this to me is that you can tell the animators had to animate the mouth movements using the reversed audio; so when it's played normally it automatically puts the scene out of sync. The fact that you were able to reconstruct the audio is pretty amazing.
I noticed this during editing as well. I think it's funny with all the anime comments I'm getting on this, because that side effect of reverse lip sync totally adds to that xD
I always thought he was making fun of Mung at first, but knowing he just said "This guy is awesome!" makes the scene even better. This is such a great edit
This is amazing! I can't even tell that this is edited. Full disclosure: I've never seen any episode of Chowder except for the one with the loser elephant who guilted them to stay with him forever
Really well done! I love how they added that detail, they legit reversed it, they didn't have someone just say a bunch of gibberish when they could have easily done so. It's even more impressive hearing the lines reversed that these were full, well-acted lines.
All this time I thought he was speaking Japanese. Shows that C.H. Greenblatt played me for a fool. And that I should probably start watching less subbed versions of anime.
I never even knew he spoke in reverse. In the localized version i saw as a kid they apparently didnt bother with that and just had him do his lines normally
this is actually really well voice acted.. it makes me wonder, did they have him voice the scene normally and then later decide it was too boring? that reversing his speech would make it funnier or more interesting?
I really appreciate that they could have gotten anyone to voice him since nobody would understand it but they still got a high quality voice actor anyways.
I'm told that's the creator of the show, C.H. Greenblatt, voicing the character I now know is called backwards and not "reverse guy" as I've dubbed him in the title
Haha, it's been done before, don't give me ALL the glory. Every other video however just reversed the entire scene, I thought it'd be better to do some extra work to only reverse Backwards. Glad you enjoyed my video!
Expect this comment to be drowned out within all the others, but you forgot about the part near the end of the episode where he appears again and says "Hey! It's those guys that hurt the can! Let's get them!"
Aaahh shoot. I got the clip from UA-cam, I didn't have access to the full episode and forgot about that scene :/ well, next video I'll post an addendum to this or something like that to rectify :)
It wasn’t the show’s fault. CH Greenblatt (creator of chowder and Harvey beaks) had a history of being treaty poorly by the networks he worked for. CN canceled chowder for their “inability to keep up with their audience” which IMO isn’t even true but that’s what was released and confirmed by CN :/

This guy giving an amazing performance like his life depends on it.
Giving off anime protag energy, tbh.
