    I just wanted to say that this channel is very underrated, and was very ahead of the curve in terms of talking about 'obscure media', in such a depth.

    I remember my 8 track player in my 71 cuda, then they came out with cassettes which were much better. 1976, I still listen to the rock music of my youth.

    I can relate to your pain with losing your cherished CCR album to a hardware test. I still mourn my OG copy of Bloodsport on VHS to a tape eater someone (over) lubed up. Tape got all oily and the tape proceeded to jump the rollers and tie itself in a knot. RIP to those who we have lost.

      I know it was one of the first horror movies I ever saw--but, I heard the album first, then went and sought out the movie after seeing it named in the inner J-Card.

    My first cassette was a poorly recorded buddy holly hits cassette sold at Walmart in the mid 80s, bought it on sale, for 2.99, very muddy sounded. Sold it to a record and tape store in 90, as a trade for a Motown cassette. Safely the owner retired in 2021 due to health issues. Store closed around same time. First hand me down tape I later found out was a Who's Next cassette I got in 1978. Tape was one found by my dad and give to me. Been rerecorded over many times, now its a peaches and herb copy now.

    I’ve no recollection what my first audio cassette was but my very first CD was Pink Floyd’s Delicate Sound of Thunder double CD. Still have it, it still plays great (as well as my first CD player/boombox).

    12:24 Amish Paradise was the first "Weird Al" Yankovic song that I've ever heard.
    I believe that I first heard it, around 1995, when I was 7, or 8, years old.
    A cousin of mine had it on CD & played it for my family & I.

    I don't have any more cassettes except for one Capitol Collector's Series album and one Christmas tape. I have two copies of Rumours on vinyl - one was my dad's and one I bought at a flea market. That Fleetwood Mac Greatest Hits was the very first CD that I ever got as a Christmas gift in the early 90s. And, just like Ben, Wilson Phillips (I also had that same cassette) was my introduction to the music of the Beach Boys and the Mamas and the Papas. ❤ I also had that exact same "Cruisin' Classics" album from Shell!

    The first tape I remember buying was at yard sale for 75¢ and it was Air Supply from 1985. I got the tape when I was 14 so that most have been 2014. The tape has one bad spot of about 5 seconds on both sides. That happened do to a bad cassette deck. I think my rarest tape is Ice House: man of coulor
    A few months ago at a Goodwill I picked up 7 factory sealed cassette tapes from the 80s for $1 a piece. They are; Til Tuesday: Welcome home, the Outfield: play deep, the Fabulous Thunderbirds: Tuff Enough, T. Graham Brown: I Tell it Like it Used To Be, REO Speedwagon: Wheels aren't Turnin, the Kendalls: Fire at First Sight, and Mike + Mechanics.

    Fun stuff as always, Ben. I have to admit, some of the things you pulled out of your cassette box...never in a million years would have thought you were into Jeff Foxworthy, LOL! So many of those are pretty interesting, seem a bit out side of what I would have thought you'd listen to, but you have shown to have a like for a lot of genres and style - I mean, you DO punish yourself (and everyone else, heh heh) with those pseudo-soundalike albums, LOL!. And of course, Kim (my wife) had to be told who Stephen Bishop was (Me: "He sang 'On And ON'" Kim: "You mean that WASN'T Christopher Cross?" ) We usually have this particular "You mean that WASN'T (Fill in the blank) conversation about stuff by Chicago, Air Supply, Bread, and adjacent bands LOL! Hope things are doing ok, my friend!

    OMG I remember EVERY STORE back in the day as a 90s kid they'd be selling cheap Halloween cassettes which were weird blends of like X-files, Exorcist and other spooky theme songs but also like "Wild Thing" and "Spooky" and slightly less "overtly Halloween" type songs. But they almost always were TERRIBLE sound quality and prone to just conking out (getting all mangled). I recall my parents buying replacement copies of other albums on tape too - we would buy stuff like Backstreet Boys and whatever was popular but it seemed like 90s cassette production was AWFUL! I dunno why. I just recall we'd get a tape, it'd get eaten up - or it'd have inherent production flaws, and we'd have to return/replace it. Cheap manufacturing???

    Mentioning your copy of Carly Simon's "Spy"...that design means it was one ordered from Columbia House. I have a bunch of those tapes, though the mixing is atrocious on some of them (my copy of Queen's "The Game" sounds horrible).

  • @herbcraven7146
    @herbcraven7146 3 місяці тому +2

    I hope you're being sarcastic about that Carly Simon album being an original issue. The red bars on the spine are a telltale sign of a Columbia House run of a competing label's record. That's part of how they could give you 11 albums for a penny. No art work other than the album cover, no liner notes, just a generic white tape in a vanilla case. I had plenty, and none were of exceptional sound quality.

    • @OddityArchive
      @OddityArchive 3 місяці тому +4

      "Original" Columbia House issue. Can't imagine it lasted on their list beyond '80--wasn't much of a hit at the time. More than anything, I was trying to say that it was period-correct.
