    I love watching carpenters work in general, but when they make something that crosses over into my world, it's even better! Cool project!

    Nice. Way better than I could ever do. Couple of questions, though: first, did you think of recessing the glass into the base - looks a bit odd just resting on the surface? Second, why a solid top - wouldn't a glass top have shed more light/increased the viewing potential? Thanks again.

    Looks great mate! I would have added a groove in the lower board to hold the glass so it wasn't just resting on the surface.

    Beautiful work. Why use plywood and a veneer this time instead of solid walnut? Cost? Grain patterns in the veneer to display? If plywood has no soul, is this piece soul-less?

    Love your work, but I have one question. Do you have a shooting board? Could have used one on those miters to clean them up easily.

    • @WoodByToth
      @WoodByToth 7 років тому

      Kenneth Batten Yeah I have a couple shooting boards. This was a quick 4 hour project so I had to keep the price down for the customer so unfortunutally the hand tools stay in the cabinet

    I was thinking that adding top window but instead of using clear glass, milk glass should be used, would give nice soft illumination for the statue. Anyway nice build.

    What works best for glue ups, ketchup or mustard?

    • @Hatchmade
      @Hatchmade 7 років тому

      derickwd depends on the wood. Lighter woods mustard works better because the yellow blends better, ketchup works better with darker. That's why he was using both while veneering walnut to birch plywood...

    I may have missed a step, but if you glued down the top tot he bottom, how did you get the glass/plexi sheets into the grooves?

    • @WoodByToth
      @WoodByToth 7 років тому

      Matthew Fochs ahh i guess that wasn't too clear. The post slide into holed on the bottom so the top can lift off get there figure out. The glass it glued in place on the sides

    • @TjallingBlackCat
      @TjallingBlackCat 7 років тому +1

      I think he only glued the 'posts' to the top of the case, and not the bottom. But I could be wrong!
