    Could you imagine a cop using open handed silat to disarm and gain control of someone trying to hurt them with a knife or similar weapon? People would call police brutality knowing the guy had a knife and was trying to hurt the cop with it and say that the Silat was excessive force regardless of the fact that the guy had a knife. This shit is insanely busy effective

      Maul, I have had the honour of being "culturally entertained" by you at one of your Australian seminars. After more than forty years of involvement around a number of arts I can say that I was very "entertained". Keep up your great work as a cultural ambassador.

    • @kayn7596
      @kayn7596 5 років тому

      Maul565 Thanks for the reply and clearing that up for me! I’ve trained silat and MMA; I feel the only reason why MMA can often be more effective is the way in which people train it. After years of silat and moving to MMA I was shocked because I couldn’t get any of it to work. Eventually I managed to incorporate some silat and the art really evolved for me. Would you ever try and adapt the art from a cultural/entertainment perspective so it could also be used as a self defence one? I love your videos and the art is amazing, but a lot of people are under the impression that Silat is a ‘realistic’ and ‘lethal’ martial art. I feel like it definitely is but if we don’t train to fight with resistance we don’t know what the art is truly capable of - or if we can actually use it!
      Thanks again!

  • @jareth7456

    As much as I love Maul Mornie and the effectiveness of and perfection of his technique, it fails to account for the more realistic reality of knife attack. They don't swipe or try to stab you from a healthy distance no man the thug on the street is gonna get real close usually latching on with his off hand and then he brings out the knife which at this point is only a foot away and then they do the sewing machine stab in out in out with about two and a half stabs a second from extreme close range . Now just because he's not showing how to deal with this situation don't mean he doesn't know how, the arts of silat and Arnis and their variants throughout that region are very blade oriented, their a knife culture and are probably the best knife fighters in the world, well them and the Apache are the best knife fighters, be very interesting to see the two get together.

    • @kobked-x
      @kobked-x 2 роки тому +1

      the overly exaggerated motions are because its a training session and not a real fight... Maul addresses this several times in several videos, also, after 20+ years of Silat I do know how and why this is the training method because it has worked for thousands of year, perfectly... I recommend taking a few years of Silat classes in any of the styles, you'll see...[hell, even a few months would show you the answer personally.

  • @TTGLL

    • @madjidchouarbi3921
      @madjidchouarbi3921 6 років тому +14

      Of course, in a real fight, you can be attacked this way ! the first attack is a thrust witch is the most common way a guy will attack you, and the second one is the most common attack with a blade like a machete. Silat, like Arnis de mano use to deal with blade for centuries and they developped accurate techniques to face armed opponent. I really wander if your opinion is based on your huge experience of deadly knife encounters, or if you only tell things you heard or read here or there ? Funny how people without knowledge nor experience can judge others, especially concerning martial arts.

Don't get some that will play along and let you flip flop them and Patty cake but really test your skills. Not saying you aren't an excellent martial arts instructor or that I could out do you in any capacity. Just this ain't really gonna work in a fight for your life and I promise you can't show me one real life example of a knife fight that looks anything like this.
