Such a great idea! I saw those straws at IKEA on my last trip. Thinking I need to pick them up and make a new busy bag!

You can also get half-dozen muffin tins at the Dollar Tree and can sort up to 6 colors with one tray. Great ideas!

Ok so I love all your ideas and I think they're amazing, but here's the thing. I have 3 boys ages 6,4,2. They are extremely active and when they're all together (especially with the 2 year thrown in there) they never last long with activities like this. I've tried many times to come up with sensory bins and busy bag ideas like this. I put a whole bunch of effort into creating it, and then the big moment comes to try it out and they only last a few minutes because pretty soon they are throwing the straws at each other or blowing in each other's ears with them. My kids also just don't seem to have a lot of patience for doing a repetitive activity. It's like once they've strung a few beads, they're done and will never want to do that activity again. Does anyone else have this problem? How do you set rules and expectations for your kids when they are playing with the busy bags. What do you do if they lose interest too quickly? Would LOVE any tips, because I really would love to make these work for our family!

Sometimes activities don't work... in which case, I would try some different ones. I do set rules and expectations and I start with simple. I do make sure that they are in a good mood for the activity too. Sounds like you have an active bunch. I would make sure your activities have a lot of movement. Have you tried obstacle courses?

The edges of pipe cleaner is sharp so is it safe for kids.

Some are and some aren't, it depends on the brand. So be on the lookout and use supervision if it is a concern. It hasn't been a problem for us.
