Shelton had got the wrestling talent without a shadow of a doubt, it was just that he needed to be more charismatic and had better mic skills and I'm sure that if he was given the chance to do that then he would've been in par with Roman reigns
I'm putting this on your most recent video because the thought just crossed my mind.
If you get to talk to Cena again- you need to ask him about his interaction with London Money In The Bank audience. The way he just went back and forth as a full conversation.... and the giant fucking smile on his face when he came out and said "Time to go to work!" And the camera follows him as he runs to the ring and it's 20,000 people with as much passion and energy as a 60,000 Wrestlemania.
Idk. I just watched it back on Peacock and it was something special, and I would love to hear him talk about it.
Love It CVVCLIPS Bro.
He’s not even underrated at this point in his career, he’s straight up under-appreciated.
His biggest flaw was his mic skills. I feel like if they could have given him a gimmick that didn't require much talking, he could have gone further.
Poor mic skills didn't hold back Jeff Hardy nor Alberto.
@@napalmblaziken True, but it usually doesn't work that way in wwe, Plus Jeff Hardy was mid carder for a long time till he got a world title and Alberto was big dude and wwe was known for pushing big guys over small guys most of the time.
Easy fix give him a manager.
I’ve always wanted this guy to succeed. I’ve had a vested interest in him. He wasn’t the best talker, but Damn! Could he go in the ring and he’s very athletic
Shelton Benjamin is the only wrestler i know, who can can do technical wrestling and acrobatics equally well on a very high level. His athletic abilities are incredible.
I always enjoyed is matches. Especially the tlc-matches.😀
I think they should have definitely atleast made him the WWEECW Champion when he had the Gold Standard gimmick
To be fair, it seemed like they recognized his potential with the gimmick, which is why they moved him to SD! Where he did have some good success at the start, but fizzled out afterwards.
Well it’s facts to be honest I didn’t even watch the full clip yet, and it brings me back to when I was a kid watching Shelton have bangers on WWE’s ECW, his infamous WrestleMania tope con Hilo’s like he’s such an amazing talent. Shelton should’ve been world champion at least once back in the 2000s
Fax
Why were they "infamous"?
@@SteRDLK he’d do some of craziest spots at wrestlemania and some of those spots were the Tope Con Hilo off a ladder into the crowd of competitors or the time he ran up a ladder to clothesline Chris Jericho or that bad bump he took at WM 24 when he fell through the ladder he was just great man
@@AverageAthieusBut why have you used the word "infamous" to describe them?
@@SteRDLK I guess it just popped up in my brain 💀
Shelton Benjamin and John Morrison. So much promising in their early days. Great wrestler and great athletism. 1 thing they’re lacking is mic skills. Sadly couldn’t get a chance to breakthrough the superstar phase.
In the ring Shelton Benjamin is one of the best ever. I do think as a character he lacked promo skills. But I always felt like with a manager like Paul Heyman or even with MVP in the Hurt Business he could've been a world champion. He's a guy that has such badass matches he doesn't need the sports entertainment thing. He's a great pro wrestler as he said.
He may not have ever been THE guy but he had a pretty damn good career.
We can all agree he was underrated and under appreciated, but I think we can all agree that this man has earned a hall of fame career with longevity alone, sure he didn’t get that much gold but he is gold everytime he steps in the ring
I always thought Shelton would gave had a better career if he was gimmicked up. He could have been the wwe version of sting. He's almost too laid back to portray himself. Plus the name Shelton doesn't scream main event
Shelton Benjamin may not been World Heavyweight champion under the WWE but he was the World Wrestling Council Universal Heavyweight Champion.
This story is amazing
Needs gold, he’s the gold standard after all
Exactly but they Neva ran with it
Great wrestler. Remember his breakthrough with Charlie Haas. Had some memorable matches in WM23 and WM24. Wish he could become a star
... but u can go out on a big bang!!! #shrltonbenjamin #aintnostoppinmenow #wwe you're time is coming asap. You're a Intercontinental & U.S. Champion. Plus, u still got it...
God bless u man 💯🤟
Wwe should give him at least one title run, feel bad for those who never get one when it’s well deserved
He’s definitely underrated and under appreciated and he definitely should have won a world title. Also bring back The Hurt Business
Vince mcmahon would not let that happen, lol
I’m gonna break kayfabe here.. this man needs a world title run or a solid fued.. like come on. Why not?
The keyword there is Criminal, it is criminal that he didn't have a proper push back then in the mid 2000s.
Look at that roster. He was far behind
Shelton a beast. He got the tools needed for a world champ. Thats making others shine.
In my opinion WWE always missed the mark by not making his rival be Randy Orton through out the mid 2000s decade.
By 2009 Shelton and Rene Dupree (if he stayed) should’ve been world champions
Shelton benjamin is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. My favorite wwe wrestler a legend in the business. im so sad wwe released him
His intercontinental match with Jericho was awesome
Are you actually underrated if lots of people say that you're underrated?
Yes
He could have been pushed a little more in the 2000s. They could have tested him as an upper midcarder, given him more world title shots, but he had a decent midcard run and he was nowhere as much underrated and underused as he is today. His second run has been almost as long as the first one and they've done almost nothing with him. He can still go as well as 20 years ago and they're totally wasting him. He should've been the one to retire Kurt Angle. I'd love to see him wrestle Brock Lesnar, and I'm sure Brock would too.
This is how I always felt about him. Either way he belongs in the HOF
Underrated is an overused term. Despite his lack of world championship success he has worked for the biggest wrestling company in the world. In all of wrestling history if there's let's say 5 million wrestlers all time. He's in the top 5%. Not everyone can be the main guy and often the best guys in the ring are not the top of the top
"I'm still there." Barely, havent seen him in months. Pit him against Logan Paul even now that he's older, you still got a potential match of the year right there
Give him a championship belt
He had a match with Christan CAGE in a ladder match for ECW champion. They could have put the belt on him
Yah agree with Shelton, dude was one of the TOP ever in the ring skill for skill. However he lacked in that STAR factor to be a WWE Superstar. At the end of the day since its still a biz...you gotta have something that can help make you that STAR...Shelton just didnt have that side of him.
True, but they put the world title on guys like Jinder Mahal and Jack Swagger that don't have 'it' either, so they could have rolled the dice with Shelton in the mid 2000s.
Oh for sure. However the WWE today is not the same WWE i grew up on. SO i think thats also a huge reason someone as amazing as Shelton didnt get his proper shine. I think its waaay more feasible today though for him to get it.@@filthiestfish
Is he talking about the match with Eddie Guerrero where they went one on one in 2004 where Eddie was the Champion? I don't remember that one being a title match. Eddie defended the title against Angle, Mysterio and Chavo, HHH, Booker T and JBL (these last 4 via DQ or no contest) but not against Shelton.
I still think WWE should have allowed him to win the ECW title against Christian in TLC 2009.
Never faced Eddie Guerrero for the World title, that's Triple H on March 22 2004 and you faced him on March 29 and beat him, imagine if he was WWE champion
Should’ve been a world champion at least once even if it was a short reign
Vince racist mcmahon would never let thst happen in those days
Let the wrestlers express themselves, and do their thing and it grows on fans. WWE deserves criticism for acting as intermediaries between wrestlers and fans. It is not about promo skills; any good story wrestlers have will be liked. It used to be about good storytelling inside and outside the ring. Jeff, Benoit, Rey etc. Building a reputation for a talent like Shelton Benjamin as a solid in ring performer should have been the approach of WWE. May be if the time was right for him, he would have had the top prize as well.
How the hell are they gonna tease Hurt Business 2.0 without Shelton or MVP, how can you fumble this so badly
They should’ve made him win via money in the bank but we all know the time period between the rock and king booker there will be no black champs
Vince is like well shelton your a AFrican american. You can't win a world heavy weight tittle here😂
The fact that the "great" khali was a world champ and inducted into the hall of fame before benjamin has yet to win mitb(the match that HE made special) or a world title is a travesty. Vince mcmahon is trash.
Needed some of that automatic million+ viewership from India, I guess.
Fans are fickle. If Shelton won the WHC on Raw fans would be upset
They could at least give him a good mid title run
He can still be World Champion
No he can't. Why invest in someone who has a few years left?
Give him a WrestleMania moment with a secondary title sure.
His better than cm punk better than cena better edge
video shows it, he just needed to learn how to conduct a promo
Dolph ziggler couldn’t n he gotta title that’s an excuse
@@Cratossama depending on which era of Dolph we’re talking about too dawg cuz he was spittin’ fire back in 2015-2016 and he become champion one too many times over he’s partially known for his mic skills besides his in-ring ability sorry for being a Dolph Mark I guess…
@@AverageAthieus I can make an argument that the gold standard gimmick was around the same length of time dolph had that so called 🔥 so I don’t buy it clearly it was because he was black but no 1 wants to acknowledge that
@@Cratossama that’s a valid point but I ain’t tryna get into any racial tension between u and me bro considering both Shelton and Dolph had some awesome moments in their respective careers, but Dolph is simply more known for his accomplishments more than Shelton which sucks to say cuz I’ve said it in this comment section and I’ll say it again, Shelton should’ve held at least ONE world championship in his career the Gold Standard Gimmick for me at least had world champ written all over it but they just didn’t capitalize on him 😩
@@AverageAthieus because they never gave Shelton accomplishments this is scripted Dolph came into wwe as a cheerleader Shelton came in as an athlete they aren’t the same
Triple HHH said it best. WWE doesn't think black people are fit to be WWE champion.
Triple HHH, so like Nine Hs?
@rohitchaoji I meant to put Triple KKK
