- Exploring a 19th century soft water cistern.
The cistern was discovered when building work began during the renovation of the stables and cattle sheds.
The brick constructed cistern has a diameter of about 8ft and is 12 ft deep.

We love our cistern. Thanks for sharing this!! Fascinating!!
Thanks for watching
WOW, i love the Graphics at the start (Very Pro) Very healthy water, lots of life.
Thanks Gordon. That's my son's handy work. There was a lot of hungry looking life in there. I wouldn't want to fall in and be the next meal.
déjà vu movie induced schizophrenia
The music is insanely creepy. I was expecting some type of scare to happen.
Great job!
I'm pleased you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
For those asking, you can still install a cistern. Rain Brothers in Ohio sells and installs and has UA-cam videos. Much luv y'all 🏵️🤗💐🌻
Wow, cool video
Awesome 👍😎
On the way down the camera seemed to pass through a dense layer of aquatic E.T.’s, only they weren’t pointing “Home” with their index finger!
That's right, and I wasn't going to volunteer to get in and find out what their message was.
Tigger Pooh it was born on earth so it’s not an alien
Amazing clip. Loved the sound and the animation at the start, and especially the transition from animation to real footage. What where these cisterns used for?
Thanks for watching Danny. Cisterns were used as a water supply for washing, cooking etc. On a farm it may have served as animal drinking water.
déjà vu wow, I wish we still used those! Look at all the life down there... that’s gotta be good water! ❤️
@@dannysmith8278 I dare you to try it!
déjà vu 🙈
Aren't these for making apple cider?
You need a whale in there to eat all the plankton.
lol john
What are the white particles in the water?
All the wild life living down there.
Pretty cool ecosystem. I wonder what the oxygen levels are in the air pocket at the top of the cistern. I imagine not much with all of the life inside.
That’s right, not a lot of oxygen able to get in there. They probably won’t see the light of day for many years to come.
Any story or history on this? What was the function and purpose? How did it work? why so many tiny bugs?
Not much known about this one. It would be fed by rain water from roofs then pumped out probably for animal drinking water.
I just bought an old farm house last month that someone flipped. I was walking around my property last week and tripped over a piece of plywood covering a hole. A little more investigation took place, and it turns out I have a 19th century cistern directly next to my house. Anyone know if I can divert my gutters into it? I know nothing about these..
Your down pipes probably are or were connected originally. Check to see if they are clear and listen for water running into the cistern.
I have two of these at a property I have in the country. No electricity /running water so they very much come in handy for watering my garden and stuff. I am concerned about their strength. They look like they're in very good condition.
I know of one that had a 2x2ft hole smashed through the dome top for access to fit a pump. It’s been like that for years without any problems. It even has a car parked on top of it occasionally.
@ I've ran into mine with a tractor a few times and drove over the base of the other one and no problem. Just afraid one of these days it'll collapse! Lol
May I ask what you use to pump your water out of your cistern?
I have one in my backyard should be as old as the house, there is an electric pump connected in the basement, I have used it on grass acts like a super water, stink is bad like methane as it come out of the hose, thinking of using the water to fill this new pool...free water!
Probably a lot of rotting debris in the bottom, great that you can use it though.
Amnesia - The Dark Descent brought me here.
What exactly are those bugs/creatures in the water? They remind me of the Sea Monkeys I had once. Very creepy and I shutter to think if I were pushed in. 🙈😂
I think they must be something like them, there were leeches too. Not the type of place you want to take a dip especially when its their breeding season.
Nice...creepy music unnecessary
Thanks for watching.
