TENERIFE - GARACHICO - Wer Teneriffa liebt - kennt Garachico

Garachico befindet sich im Nordosten Teneriffas und besitzt ein sehr gut erhaltenes, reiches, architektonisches Erbe. Als einstiges wirtschaftliches Zentrum der Kanarischen Inseln und als angesehene Hafenstadt fing alles an und endete zwischenzeitlich vor rund 300 Jahren, anno 1706, mit dem Ausbruch des Vulkans Montańa de Trebejo. Seine glühenden Lavaströme bedeckten beinahe das gesamte Hafenbecken und fraßen sich durch das gesamte Dorf bin hin zum Meer. Damit endete die wirtschaftliche Blütezeit der Stadt und auch den Rang als wichtigster Hafen Teneriffas ging verloren und wurde von Puerto de la Cruz übernommen.

Garachico is located in the north-east of Tenerife and has a very well preserved, rich architectural heritage. As the former economic centre of the Canary Islands and a respected port town, it all began and ended in the meantime around 300 years ago, anno 1706, with the eruption of the volcano Montańa de Trebejo. Its glowing lava flows covered almost the entire harbour basin and ate their way through the entire village to the sea. This ended the town's economic heyday and its status as Tenerife's most important port was lost and taken over by Puerto de la Cruz.
