I love the fact that you say, "I'm not a professional.." in the middle of your closing...Girl, you ARE a professional. Just because it's your first year, doesn't discount things. Love your vibe as always....waving hello from Sactown...
Being a maths teacher really appeals to me over any job. It makes me happy to see someone saying something positive about the job for once! My mum is a teacher and loves it but everyone else online says it sucks
I love that your school allows for "office" hours in a sense. That's really a good way to give students a college experience early. It's also just good in general for questions.
Hi Katy, Last year was my first year teaching math, chemistry and engineering in a public school. I’ve been doing other teaching and training about 90% of my career since I started tutoring at Foothill College in 1988. You’re an inspiration to me. Never doubt that a new person can bring great things to a profession! This year I introduced “math meetings,” in which all our math (and eventually science) teachers got together weekly to share, compare, complain and coach each other. This was super helpful for me, but even our Ph.D. senior teacher said he learned a lot from it. One way you really encourage me is just by producing content on your channel. I definitely want to do that too. Way to go!!
Up until recently, I've been studying engineering - mostly because I'm good at it and I wanted to be riiiiich. It took me four years to finally admit I hate it! IT'S. SO. BORING. But strangely, I love pure maths (still not entirely sure why lol). I went to a Tim Minchin concert and he said if you're in your 20s and don't know what to do with your life, go become a teacher. Now I'm switching up my degree to become a secondary school maths teacher and I'm feeling SO much better about life! I still have to finish some engineering papers, but instead of watching lectures about the manufacturing process of vinyl chloride and getting depressed af that that's my future, I get hyped and relieved that that's NOT my future 😅 PS there aren't many high school teachers on youtube so I'm glad to have found your channel!
Oh my gosh. You seriously simplified this for me. I'm going to be a first year middle grades science teacher while going through an MAT program, and it's overwhelming right now. Thank you for showing the "how-to" on this video. A lot of people will just talk about what to do and why, but not actually SHOW how to do something.
Very great video. Love your passion and enthusiasm. I am a principal at a high school and yea I can tell that I have the least number of teachers comparing to previous years. Wish I can have some teachers like you in my school; maybe come and spend a vacation here on an island in Micronesia. I hope someone can read this and at least to think about it. I am recruiting for teachers now; Science, Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, Mechanic, Carpentry, Agriculture, Food & Nutrition, Sewing, Child Development.
Thank you for being so caring, I am switching majors because my paths changed in my life but I used to be an education major. Here in Arizona it’s so hard to find good and dedicated teachers, they are out there but few and far between in my area!!
I so feel your color of your classes! I teach 5 preps of science- my physical science is orange, biology is green, chemistry is yellow, physics is blue, and earth science is red. That’s the way I see it in my head!!
I am now obsessed w you 😍 I graduate in December w my elem Ed degree & your channel will help me so much Bc I want to start in elem, then go to middle, then high, then be a professor! ❤️
Just curious, what is that loop you put around your head at 2:18? Is that just your keys or access card to the room or school? If so I don't know why its worn around the head?
Girl I ALSO associate geometry with Green, Algebra I with Red and Algebra II with Blue!! I think it's a math person thing. Thank you for this video, it's hard to find high school teacher things especially in STEM
That's wild, 45 mins for 2x a week. I could see if it were 90 mins, but goodness! The remote classes in my district are roughly 45 minutes for 4-5 days a week.
I’ve been teaching for 12 years, but teaching Algebra and Geometry to GT 8th graders so the course is a year long! I just transitioned to HS this year, and the course is semester long! I am freaking out with how to condense such an important course in half!! Is there any advice or resources you are able to share? I use “all things algebra” for algebra and geometry which I love, but finding it difficult to pick and chose what is important when I feel like ALL of it is IMPORTANT if you know what I mean!! Thanks so much! Any advice, tips, resources would be greatly appreciated. Hope you had an amazing first year and are looking back now and are rockin it! I feel like a first year teacher this year!!!! 😂
Oh my gosh you remind me so much of Rashida Jones?! Have you ever gotten that before? Haha your voice sounds just like her and other than the blonde hair you have similar features! I'm in school to become a teacher (I'm in elementary, though). I love watching your videos! Thank you for sharing, I think this is helpful advice even for younger grade levels!
Do you mind sharing an example of how you would do an INB if it were a regular year? Everything I have found on INB were more for primary grades and I haven’t seen anything that I would use for my secondary students.
2021-2022 is my first year teaching HS Math. I have grown to really love what I do. The big pro of teaching HS is the kids are much older & it can be easier to deal with them in contrast with middle school students who are “starting to change”. FYI: from my observation, there is a massive difference in maturity between 9-10 graders vs. 11-12 graders. I preferred my Math 3 class that consisted with 11-12 graders.
This might be a weird question but as a math teacher are you allowed to record classes and upload them onto canvas for students who miss class ? Especially because of the pandemic.
Oh my goodness 45 minutes twice a week?! Our schools have kids in for 30 minutes four times a week and it feels like there is no time to work with them! The iPad idea is really cool! I am doing my student teaching for my music ed degree right now and using an iPad as a white board for music theory lessons would be so helpful!
WOW I mailed it, your a math teacher!! I just didn't get that English or History vibe from you!! Don't get me wrong your the cutest math teacher I have ever seen, but I could tell how precise and disciplined you were with your morning routines that you were probably math or science!! I was a dual Physics and Chemistry BS from a Liberal Arts College in WA STATE and I completed my PhD Physics coursework at Purdue University and then I worked as a Senior Research Scientist at a National Laboratory and I invented alot of technology that is used in Industry and Medical fields! Take Care and enjoy your summer!! I always use summer to listen to teacher VLOGS and get ideas from videos. I also polish my lesson plans. Most of my classes are getting pretty well done by now, but I develop some EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENTS and WORK SHEETS for emergencies and times I just need a break from what we are doing. It's good to break up the routine and make it more interesting for the students also!! Take Care...
@@ms.johnsonteaches9245 my girlfriend is a first year high school teacher and she wants to know what your cellphone policy is in the classroom and do you confiscate them and if you do how do you process them

Im going to be a first year math high school teacher this Fall too! So glad I found your channel! :)
I start in 2 weeks. Good luck to us. 🍀
How’d it go??
@@1silverwhisper8 I'm curious as well.

Oh yes. I have to color coordinate EVERYTHING with what I decided my courses were 😅
Hahah yes!
definitely one of the better videos explaining what im getting into after my degree. Thanks for making and uploading it
You’re so awesome! I’m a HS Algebra 1/Algebra Honors teacher in Illinois. Love your classroom, it’s SO aesthetic .

Thanks for sharing!! I am sure whatever path you are on you will succeed!
Great video, thank you! I don’t see many high school teachers do this kind of planning videos, especially math. Please do more 😊

You should also try Blooket too! It’s way more interactive and turns the questions into an actual video game it’s really neat!
Thank you for your tips and information, it's really good for me ☺
Geometry was always green for me too, whenever I did the divider for my binders or folders 😂

Exciting! Could you do a video for planning a face-to-face lesson?
what are the apps you use??
What kind of pens/markers are you using! I saw them when you made your January month in your planner, love them!
I use the Black Tombow Fudenosuke soft tip & the Fiber Castell PITT Artist Pen in Bold.
Hello! I love your videos, you are amazing! I can’t decide if I’d rather teach high school history or math. What are pros and cons to teaching math?

Yes!

What grade you teach

What are the planners you use?
JSTORY planners on amazon!
geometry SO is green!
YES!! It totally is!
Hay quá
You are ALMOST right, geometry is absolutely green, but all algebra is blue. But, red is reserved STRICTLY for history classes 😂
Hey! What classes did you have to take to be a math educator?
I wanted to do that, but all those calculus classes was a huge NO!
if you're as good at teaching as your are at vlogging... then you're a pretty good teacher.
1.99 in the App Store feels like 20 bucks in real life
Can I ask you a few questions
Ask away!

You should quite teaching highschool and teach college.
